Airtasker and Insurance for injuries

Hi

I was quoted $7500 to repaint whole 3 bedroom townhouse including ceiling and garage )with professional painter (just labor, not including the paint).

If I place my job on Airtasker, I could get in done for $4600 -$5500 (price is based on the few painting jobs I look on airtasker), people can bid for my job and I could probably can get it done cheaper and save thousands of dollars.

The way I look at it is you don't need a specific skill (such as plumber, electrician, etc) to paint a wall. Anyone can paint a wall.

My only concern is if the airtasker worker got injured or die while performing the job on my property, can I personally get sue or even prosecuted?.

I have public liability insurance on my home insurance, is that cover in the event of airtasker worker got injured or die on the job. Bad luck could happen, for example he could fall from the ladder and broke his leg or accidently got electrocuted while painting the wall near the light, etc.

I know I am just being paranoid, any suggestions will help

Thanks

Literally anything that requires even the barest minimum of skill (so basically 99% of things) can be done better by someone with more skills and experience. I mean - hell, that's the reason I don't do the cooking and stick to washing up.

But as to your actual question:

I have public liability insurance on my home insurance, is that cover in the event of airtasker worker got injured or die on the job.

You'd have to read the wording of your policy, but it may well be that workers and professionals are excluded. (I literally can't tell you).

    dead people don't sue…

But seriously your contract is with airtasker…. and the 'workers' is with airtasker. Who do you think should cover them?

    Anyone can paint a wall.

    Yes they can….. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/08/18/1408351611398_wps_…

  • unless u have crack everywhere, otherwise just DIY.

  • Op, are you paying the contractor directly or do you pay airtasker?

    • I pay the airtasker and the airtasker will pay the worker minus 15% commission

    Anyone can paint a wall.

After he's sorted that out, he can do redo the tiling as well: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/336594

The best way to paint a house, (as explained on an Australian version of one of those horrible 'house flipper' shows years ago) is to simply cover the floors, tape up the windows (just the glass), maybe the light fitting, doors handles etc as well and then hit the lot in one go with a spray gun full of the cheapest white paint you can find.

Surface prep? Sanding? Filler? Wallpaper? Skirting boards? Bah, that's loser talk. The paint will look soft-of ok for a few years, and you'll be long gone by then.
