What's up with Logan, QLD?

In the national news everyday. I don't live in QLD. Is it just a media beat up or a seriously dangerous place to habitat?

    it's Bogans not Logan

low socio-economic area, combined with large pockets of various different cultures and ethnicities. There is also a significant drug culture. and cheap housing.

    and Ikea

Hive of scum and villainy. Essentially bogans: the suburb.

The ethnic gangs and rampant drug use doesn't help either.

Nothings wrong with Logan mate, all these Brisbane hipsters with their so called bitcoins and avocado on toast…

Mate, I can get a bloke over who can hook up with subscription free Foxtel for half a bag of hydro and he'll even let you have a cheeky peak at the electrical goods in the back of his van all at various too hot to mention prices… its like cash converters except you don't get any of the power chargers or an invoice…

They may call it Logan… but really its called living the dream by the locals - come for a visit, leave your car unlocked and full of valuables and be welcomed by the local hospitality.

""The Last Place I'd Live- Ever"
In the majority of Queensland, Logan is rather affectionately know as Bogan. I think you may be able to guess why… It has limited employment potential, high unemployment figures, high drug and alcohol abuse numbers and a staggering amount of domestic violence related crimes. The schools do an admirable job of trying to improve the morale of kids attending, but it really is like pushing poo uphill.
(I've taught in the district). The house prices are still relatively low for obvious reasons, and rent is affordable. There is the Logan Hyperdome for retail relief with a large choice of shops. It's about 20 minutes drive to the CBD and transport is available."

Depends which suburb in Logan though, because there's actually quite a few nice suburbs - Forestdale, Daisy Hill, Cornubia…It's mainly the Centrelink dependent areas (ie, Woodridge) where its pretty scummy/bogan.

There are nicer parts of Logan, acerages and kind of nice houses in some parts of Woodridge specifically. I'd check out the nearby Karawatha forest and my old stomping ground, the Sugar glider forest in nearby Parkinson. The rest is only going to change with significant government, third party or community intervention. But seems like it has been kept that way for a reason in my opinion.

  • For bargain hunters, there are a few places in that area that are worth driving to: Yuen's Farmers Market, Discount Grocery Outlet, Big Gun Wholesale Meats, and IKEA.
