Yea you jack up the price first before the 50% discount.
they don't - it is off their usual "nobody pays" RRP
the pre-sale for VIPs had some nicer deals (especially with 25OFF) but the xmas sale is just the usual (clearing winter stock, etc)
Not everything is 50% off. In fact, not everything is on sale - only run out stock.
A true ozbargainer whould know to NEVER buy kathmandu stuff at retail price.
50% off gets close to an ok price. 60-80% off reatil is what is regarded as a bargain for kathmandu.
Website seems to be broken, I can't select colours/sizes or even add anything to cart.
EDIT: Disabling uBlock fixed it.
Yeah I have recently noticed that uBlock has been giving me a lot of issues on various sites. Temporarily stopped using it for now and am trialing other ad blockers in the mean time.

Their business model is homebrand stuff with 300% inflated RRP so it looks good on "sale" ticket.
50% is honest price. 60%+ is actual discount.

I like a lot of what Kathmandu sells but nobody should ever buy at RRP. RRP is at least double what you should be paying.
Just wait till they have one of their regular sales and then you might be getting prices that are somewhat reasonable.
Yep, I've always wondered whether there is a day of the year when they don't have a sale. The worst sale is the 40% off one and the best is 50%. If you want a good deal with them then go to Birkenhead Outlet in Sydney and get stuff on clearance that is 60% or more.
