How did you end up becoming a rep for Geekbuying? Are you rewarded/compensated by them? If not, would you consider trying to get employment from some of these online stores and become an official store rep if it's what you like doing? I think you do a pretty good job

You get paid commission from each sale. Usually it varies store by store. You can check here https://www.geekbuying.com/help/other_business/affiliate_pro…
But he/she is a store rep so probably gets paid differently.

How did you end up becoming a rep for Geekbuying?

Quite different to the usual way people get recruited. Before going solo I used to write for a well known Chinese tech-related website and built relationships with companies through the affiliate channels. Over time I became good friends with one of the Geek employees and after ditching that website she asked if I was familiar with OzBargain. The rest is history.

      Are you rewarded/compensated by them?

      The short answer is yes.

I'll make it clear that I have never asked GeekBuying to pay me, give me discounts or send me any freebies whatsoever. I've always requested that they do what they think is right (car charger yay). Something about me personally that applies to here and IRL is that I'm a very selfless person and I'll go out of my way to help other people without expecting something in return. Other posters here will agree with me that the thrill of posting a successful deal is amazing!

If not, would you consider trying to get employment from some of these online stores and become an official store rep if it's what you like doing?

This is something I have thought about and might end up doing if things don't work out here. In China there is a high demand for foreign workers who understand other markets outside of China. Unfortunately the benefits we have here is nothing in comparison to what they have over there. Amount of hours worked, overtime, sick pay and annual leave etc.

I think you do a pretty good job

      Thanks <3

What is the background of your username? It's not that clear to me.

What is the background of your avatar?

    • What is the background of your username? It's not that clear to me.

Quite embarrassing at the time. I was typing out my username and got distracted (Home & Away shhh) and hit submit when I came back before proof reading. I've come to accept clear as being a good name.

What is the background of your avatar?

Wayo from 2 Moons The Series. Thai soap operas are my secret hobby lol.

Why is it geekbuying and not geekbuy? Is it like eating world in Chinatown Sydney?

    • It's actually both.

  • What came first - egg or chicken?

    • +1

Easy question. The egg of course!

The first chicken came out of something that was almost like a chicken but not. Therefore the first chicken was born out of an egg that was laid by something almost like a chicken but not. To help you understand in a loose way… 100 years of breed "improvement" of dogs. New species often derive from mutations of old species.

I would disagree, as per my experience beer came first, then chicken. The egg came last. Don't know why they took so long to cook it.

        • Beer? Pfft if you're doing chicken you need soju!

        • @Clear: in China, we always cook with beer. lol

  • Have you left a Review?

  • Hi Clear, and thanks for your awesome contribution to the site. If you could, what one change would you implement to make OzB an even better place than it is currently?

    • +1

Really hard question to be honest. Hard to fault this website when you compare it to other deal websites. Admins on others expect reps to pay bribes and push popular deals to the top that'll make them the most $$$ in affiliate revenue. A harder stance on the frequent trolls I feel would make the community a better place. My dream is that the greater OzBargain community would realise and accept that price jacking is a thing and they'll never be able to change it.

      • My dream is that the greater OzBargain community would realise and accept that price jacking is a thing

uh, yeah, an ILLEGAL thing. Deceptive, dishonest, immoral.
But, yeah, lets just accept it, "that's how we make the world a better place, by accepting the things we know are wrong, standing by and doing or saying nothing." - Edmund Burke

        • Having heaps of people bitching about it everytime an eBay deal is posted does nothing to change it. If you got the same amount of people to properly report it each time then maybe something would happen.

        • @Clear:

Agreed, best outcome would be for multiple people to report it.
Doesn't hurt to post here to warn the unwary though.

Why do you wish people would accept it though ?

        • @effgee: Because there are still people surprised it happens.

How did you find out about OzBaragain?

Google. I actually found OzBargain back in 2012 and started browsing it frequently in 2013 until I signed up in 2014.

What's the first thing you purchased after joining?

As a guest prior to signing up I managed to get a sample of Oxy and purchased this speaker, but I can't recall my first purchase. I know as a member I got this and did drive close to 100km to get it (among other things). Well worth it at the time.

How long do you spend browsing OzBaragain?

I start at 7am and finish at 12am. So basically my whole life.

  • Is being a GeekBuying Store Rep related to your main job or do you have some other job?

Curious because you mentioned GeekBuying don't pay you (and you don't really expect them too).

    • With the amount of time I put into GeekBuying you'd think it's my actual job, but it's not. I have a full time job outside of this in the IT/Medical industry.
