Samsung QLED TV's? Are they really worth for the money?

Does anyone have Samsung QLED TV's? How good is it compared to Sony 4K TV's?
Are they really worth for the money? I currently have Sony TV wondering if it is worth to upgrade to QLED?
Friends claim Samsung has superior brightness over the others which makes them stand out from the test.

Ozbargainers your thoughts and opinion on QLED TV's?

    No

  • Edit: I'm an idiot. QLED stands for Quantum Dot LED (Light Emitting Diode) tech.

I've seen good reviews of it online, just didn't know it was abv'd to QLED.

Edit2: Here's a comparison between OLED and QLED panels:

In terms of viewing quality though, both OLED and QLED are better than standard LED displays.

No. And this is coming from someone who owns one. I got it as a free replacement when my KS8000 was diagnosed as faulty. They're absolutely not worth the asking price. Much better off with an LG OLED or save a bunch of cash and get Hisense N7 or the M7000 if you want to stay Samsung. Friend of mine has the 65N7 and I can't see much if any difference in image quality between it and my 65Q7.

QLED is just a marketing term. Nothing more. The TV is great, but I definitely wouldn't say they're worth the money.

Also note the peak brightness is momentary. Yes it can get bright, but doesn't sustain it very long. Also IMHO I reckon the old KS8000 was much brighter than my replacement Q7

    • Well it isn't just a marketing term. It by-and-large is, but is still refers to quantum dots that exist and are legitimate. It's not as if they just decided to stick a Q on the front while changing literally nothing. Theoretically the QD layer should result in a wider colour gamut over LCD displays without it, but I haven't seen too many tests on this, so I won't make a definitive statement.

It's a marketing term in that it's basically just an LCD panel with quantum dot layer. Not a markedly different technology such as OLED. I've owned both the KS8000 and the Q7 and they're basically identical, with the Q7 having better viewing angles and the KS8000 getting a bit brighter.

Other competitors have quantum dot layers in their models, but they either just refer to them as quantum dots or they have their own marketing term for it. Again, Samsung is basically going for the crowd that don't understand the underlying tech and simply base their purchases and performance tiers based on buzzwords like "LED", "OLED", "QLED" "ULED".

    • Do you prefer the QLED over the KS8000 overall?

Overall, yes. But that's mainly because of of the styling differences, the availability of the no gap wall mount and the expanded one connect box with thin fibre optic cable.
Picture quality wise they're both basically the same, except that the Q7 has much better viewing angles

  • LCD LED to QLED = wow

LCD LED to OLED = WOWWWW

LCD LED to OLED HDR = WOW WOW WOWW

Watching Neighbours on Ch 11 looks fine on any of them.

QLED is a sad attempt to eat into LG's OLED market by making an LED TV and adding the closest looking alphabet to an "O" in front of it.

OLED is very different to LED.

QLED is just LED with quantum dot tech. Other brands have been using it for years but it's just called LED.

Do not get ripped off. Check the "O" on your OLED.

Unfortunately not that straight forward. QLEDs aren't as good as OLEDs, but is a step up from normal LED displays. QLED isn't even a Samsung term or trademark, so anyone who uses QLED panels are free to call them that.

  • It is almost two times or more the price of normal LED.

    • It is almost Q times more the price of normal LED

To be fair, it is also Q times better.

      • You reckon Q times better than OLED as well?

It's like an OLED. Just has a little dash on the lower right corner of the O.

I'm no dash expert but I'd rather my OLED without one.

  • i got my KS8000 for $1500 last Xmas paid $150 more for a 5 year extension on the warranty

Im happy with it. OLED wasnt justifiable for the price at the time
