thanks for your reply, i thinking the same think but i am not sure what els to get, i knew that my kid love the macbook air, but my personal think they dont need to, could you recoment any othe brand with similar specs. also what is the differnt between Australia stock and gray import as Dicksmick is the best price but people told me that they are grey importa nd dont work well in AUstralia. thanks again

I don’t know a huge amount about computers (I'd probably be in the bottom 20% knowledge bracket here on ozb), so wait for someone to give their opinion. I like my Surface but it is also a bit overpriced for its specs, there are definitely cheaper less fancy ones!
I saw a thread a little while ago that was people voting on the best laptop for uni students. Since this is for school it might be useful for you too.
Macbooks are overpriced for what they are, your sons want them because they're cool and trendy. Like wanting stationery from Smiggle or Nike shoes. If you have plenty of money you might want to get them anyway just to make your sons super happy but if you want the cheapest thing to do the job keep looking :)

I’ve bought a MacBook Air 128gb from Shopmonk for $999 yesterday. I’ve been on the lookout for the last couple weeks and this seemed like a pretty good deal
Kids and laptops = broken laptop sooner or later
Tip:
- buy inexpensive laptop that doesn't cost much to replace
- get protective cases / shells so that laptop may survive a drop on the floor or ride in the backpack
- get insurance, such as nominating laptops or "away from home" cover under your contents insuranceI love my apple macbook air, but they're pricey. Around $1k is a good price for 128 GB model. If you need more storage I suggest getting a SD card that permanently lives in the mac's sd slot, 128Gb cards are pretty affordable these days

Wait until there's another 20% off tech sale at eBay, stake out the sellers from the list with the cheapest prices and "commit to buy" them, then don't pay until the voucher code is active. This helps protect you against price jacking.
Also, are you sure you absolutely must have Macbook Airs? There's many cheaper laptops on the market with similar specs.
