Vodafone 8GB + 8GB Data Sim $6.98 or $5 in Store - Nano or Standard/Micro @ Harvey Norman

240

Link says price is $6.98 and limit of 1 per customer, but I bought 2 of each type at the Bondi Junction store for $5 each (as per the sign next to the sim cards).

I've activated these before and you get 8GB as advertised plus another 8GB bonus upon activation.

No expiry for activation as far as I am aware.

Update: As per greenpossum's comment below, the expiry should be 3 months from activation

  • These are good. Apparently they have no expiry too last time I checked, just a manufactured date and obviously not guaranteed the 8GB+8GB, it is whatever the current offering is at the time. But can only assume it will get better as time goes by and data gets more affordable.

  • I've got some from before, they where marked as 3gb. Activated, got 8. Sorted. They'll be better in April, when they get band 28…

    • Do you have to chose a plan? According to the website they are currently: 2GB for $15, 7GB for $30 or 14GB for $45 per month. If I just want to use the SIM once and throw it away then I can/should select the higher plan? Does that mean it will get 14 + 8 GB bonus? I got one from this previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/332700 that I have not yet needed to use and do not want to go through activation just to confirm, thanks.

These are actually marked as 8Gb + 8Gb on the packet (and 8Gb on the website) and RRP on them is $75, so probably not the same as the sims that you got which I assume gave you 3Gb + 5Gb bonus during that month you activated it.

  • can these be used to port out a number?

    When does the data expire?

    • Should be 30 days since activation

      • Thanks

        • As per greenpossum's comment below, the expiry should actually be 3 months.

  • Wouldn't it be 10c cheaper to get the kogan XL for $4.90?

    • +2

      This one no expiry date

  • i got a similar deal with a modem last year

  • postage? cost? $6

  • Seems like this would be useful for people who don't use their devices that often so don't want an expiry date.

Buy a few, activate them all immediately to get guaranteed 16gb. Sit them in the drawer until required

    What am i missing here?

    • +2

Ur missing alot. The no expiry date refers to activation. Once activated. There is an expiry date depending on which plan u picked. So 1month for the 16gb

      • That makes a big difference and I can't see anything about that in the deal or on HN site

Sounded too good to be true

      • Yeah.

Just wondering any real no expiry date plan.

As per greenpossum's comment below, the expiry should actually be 3 months.

    • Don't activate them until you need them, they don't expire anyway. Should get 30 days to use up the data and I believe it's 8Gb + 8Gb whenever you activate (ie, shouldn't be affected by whatever the current offer is for prepaid broadband).

      • I'd prefer something that has longer expiry than 30 days. I wouldn't use more than a couple gb per month most months on a mobile broadband device, but some months i would only use a couple hundred mb

Maybe compare some plans on whistleout and see if there's one that fits your usage patterns. If it works out to be less than $5 a month for you then that might be better than this deal.

Personally, I don't need 16Gb per month but I also can't find something for less than $5 that also gives me more than 10Gb a month.

        • I've got amaysim, 2gb plus unlimited calls for about 5 dollars a month, was on Groupon, look there. My second sim is for bulk data, usually kogan or voda. Always rubbish coverage compares sadly.

I activated this today and got 16GB (8GB + 8GB bonus). Actually I bought the pack the previous time it was sold, for $8. The best thing for me is according to the MyVodafone app, I have 3 months to use the data. Are others seeing this?

    • +3

I think you might be right. I have a vague recollection of the 3 month expiry from last time as well and I haven't activated any from this lot yet.

  • Dont order this for pickup if you need it the next day or you might get reviewed like I am in which case it wont be ready the next day.
EDIT: Credit where its due, that review is finished and done, less than a couple of hours (Ive had them take more than 24 in the past).

  • There is no availability for pickup at any Brisbane HN stores. The only option is to have it delivered for an additional $9.95.
