  • Is Amaysim unrestricted on the Optus network?

    • +2

full coverage but not full speed. not that youll notice the "up to 150mbps" anywhere

      • Where we are the signal constantly drops off otherwise I quite like Amaysim. I have been with them for a very long time, the problen started after 3G shutdown. Previoisly not too bad. This is the reason I stoped using them since early this year.

  • Oooh not bad!

  • How does Optus network compare with telstra network coming from boost mobile?

    • +10

      Depends on the area.

    • -3

I gave Optus a go after a 20 year hiatus. Thought they might have improved their coverage. They haven't.

If your phone is just social use, it's fine.

For mission critical mobile business workflow, you will be very frustrated with the unreliable coverage even at popular urban areas.

      • +5

It really depends on your area. I'd been with boost for yeas aftr having trouble with Optus. Moved off Boost as was finding it really poor in heavily congested areas and onto an optus network and have been pleasantly surprised. One drop out on my commute to work still but it used to be more like 6.

        • Damn, rookie move, hadn’t used or signed up for topcashback before and saw the upgraded referrer deal posted but didn’t realise it expired yesterday 😢

      • +1

Can't make a black and white statement like that. I'm on Boost/Telstra, and local tower just went offline for more than 4 weeks leaving the entire suburb with zero bars of reception and no data and pretty much all calls in and out failing except if you were on VoWIFI. Now rectified, but taking that amount of time to fix is just unacceptable.

    • +3

      How does Optus network

      Occasionally get triple-0 outage

  • +1

Amaysim uses Optus. Does anyone know if these plans include reliable access to 000 in an emergency?

    • +8

Only a royal commission can answer that

    • +2

I believe emergency 000 is routed through any available network for free regardless of your provider, and in fact does not even need a Sim.

      • +2

I believe the problem was that the Optus network setting was actually prevented rerouting.
It was giving an engaged signal for 000, meaning the phone wouldn’t swap networks - the call would just fail over and over again.

    • If you have a phone bought overseas then you may run into problems. I have a POCO F3 and Optus block my phone from making & recieving calls and sending sms due to incorrectly identifying it not being able to make emergency calls (which it can, even on the Optus network after being blocked!).
My phone works fine on Boost (Testra).
      Very frustrating.

  • +2

Damn 5 days too late. Ended up with 200gb at 175 dang

    • -1

Please hand in your OzB membership.

      • +2

Sadly previous plan expired so had no choice.

        • Still hand in your ozb membership. You could have just used 28/30 day sim until you find a decent 365 day plan. Thats what I have been doing

    • 7 days to early for me, my current plan expires in 27 days, so wouldn't get cashback

      • Unless you port out and in. $10.

Assuming Amaysim don't activate immediately, which they might.

  • -4

Be careful though, can't call 000.

  • +3

Nice. They have 5G included this time. Best part is the roaming pack of amaysim, if you travel few times a year overseas.

    • Anyone know if 5G actually works in Sydney CBD area?
I switched to UNLIMITED 50GB plan and not getting 5g on my phone unlike Boost

  • -1
    • +1

No 5G with Kogan I believe

    • In what way could that be better?

  • Amaysim is fine . We do notice more drop out compared to boost we have.

  • Ewww optus

    • +3

Ewww telstra has worse reception where I live so I guess it depends on your location.

  • Want aldi the cheapest option? For 1 year mobile?

  • I saw some comments that if you are an amaysim payg customer , you can buy the roaming credit using your path credit . Is it true?

  • I just wanted to check—can I switch from Optus Prepaid to this? Technically, I’d be leaving Optus to move to another Optus provider.

  • +2

    Come on BoostMobile !!!

    • +5

Yeah I need to renew this month too for my yearly, but boost have been more and more expensive…

    • I called Boost this morning to see if they could do me an offer. They sent me an automated $50 discount to another SIM I have which is expiring soon but I was told this can't be applied to another plan. Best they could do was $20 refund 5 days after buying the $300 SIM plan.

As good as Boost is, it sucks that nobody cares about existing customers anymore and that I have to port out and in (creating e-waste in the process) just to get a deal.
Will probably go on this Amaysim plan instead.

      • +2

Yeah, I left them after they couldn't offer anything remotely comparable to the other providers. I no longer require the telstra coverage and so it was a significant saving to shift. Absolutely no care for their long time customers.

  • +1

Isn't the Lyca new user plan better, that is 175$ for 600GB? Moreover Kogan, including other operators, would bring out the black friday sales next month anyways?

    • Guess it’s not 5G?

  • Current plan is expiring on 9/12, should I pull the trigger now? gonna waste 21 days of remaining service

    • +1

I think there will be more offers as we get closer to "black Friday". Maybe this is why you have a plan expiring in early December in the first place

      • hah exactly this! Have been switching every year aroudn this time, cheers mate

  • This or Kogan?

    • -1

      Or Lyca

  • Does anyone know how the service compares to the OnePass mobile or is it the same cause they are both using Optus network?

  • @nocure
Any chance we get a similar cashback deal with Vodafone's discounted 12 month plan - https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans ?

  • Better off paying $40 more to get the boost mobile $365 sim card, discounted down to $330 and stack with $85 Topcashback cashback

    • No international calls on that Boost deal is a killer.

      • for people that need international calling yeah

    • Depends on coverage in your area. I swear Boost has dropped off in coverage in Perth WA and surrounds since Telstra acquired it.
E.g. Boost worked great at Moore River before, now it struggles and Optus works well.
Anyone know any reliable sources that track coverage?

  • +1

Just be a simslut keep porting it every 3 or 6 months half price offered by MVNOs (like eTel and Moose)

  • Woolies have 50% off the $99 90 day Amaysim Starter pack this week @ $49.00 incl 120GB for those looking for shorter terms. Avail: 15/10/25 to 21/10/25.

  • How to port to t his eSim and use my existing number with this ? It doesn't say anywhere..

    • In the Amaysim App, you can request a replacement SIM and selecting the eSIM option OR upon activation one can choose (from memory).

  • +1

In Sydndey, if you go to Little bay beach, Maroubra, Malabar or Yarra, the coverage is shit near the water.

  • looks like shopback has matched the $39 cashback

  • Does anyone know if the costco telstra prepaid deal is still there? $269 plus $30 gift card. I know it said expired but the costco website says while stocks last.

  • Whats the cheapest plan to port out then port back in? I'm currently with amaysim and my plan is expiring next month

    • I am the same situation. Just dont buy anything now and get a black friday deal.

      • My plan expires on 6th November lol

    • +3

      $2 Aldi Sim.

  • Keep getting "Oh no! That cart's broken".

  • How long does TCB take to track the purchase?

  • When does this TCB end ? My current plan expiring Dec thought of making a purchase close to the end so not to lose too much
