These are great but I'm not sure I would spend an extra $250 for gen2. Very happy with gen1
My 'Chinese' version gen1 came with an AUS plug anyway…well upside down AUS which is essentially the same.

    • Yeah, especially considering the mopping feature is almost useless.

      • +3

        How do you know?

        • I have been reading owner reviews and I was totally ready to pay for this one.

However, unlike 1st gen which receives 100% positive feedback, the users of 2nd gen are not impressed considering the big price difference. It is basically a wet cloth with a water tank constantly dripping water to keep it wet. If you have a rug or a combination of timber floor and carpet, then you have to make sure the robot does not go on the carpet/rug and ruins it. Not to mention that the not so big dust bin is even smaller to give room to mop and water tank.

        • +1

@blabeta: I thought the dust bin was actually larger? Just to clarify I don't think it's worth the upgrade but the extra 1cm climb would be useful for my floors. The mop may be useful sometimes but I'm going to wait for the next iteration - hopefully with a a mopping function that can be controlled depending on surface.

        • @wolfshooter: Hum, I was wrong, spec does indicate a bigger bin. There are many small upgrades which is not bad at all. However, this mopping function sounds like immature to me and the differences between the two generations is not justified. Maybe Gen3 will truly be an amazing upgrade.

  • +10

I would 100% recommend this company. They shipped my version 1 Mi vacuum within a day and it is perfect. They have also been fantastic with after-sales support. This is precisely the reason it’s worth spending a small extra amount to buy local.

    • +1 I got mine within a week of ordering the 1st gen in the last deal.

    • -1

Gen2 is considerable bad and it was not produced by xiaomi. Compared with Gen 1, the only improvement is the damp cloth at he back of the device with no intelligence at all. So it will make your carpet wet and the water simply drains through a hole to keep the cloth damp.

      • Proof?

        • -1

I believe he's right - it was outsourced to another company. I recall reading about it - will try to find the source. I don't know about it being bad, though the mopping function seems a bit hit and miss as it mops carpets as well as floorboards.

          @wolfshooter:

          https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/09/19/xiaomi-roborock-sweep-…

Both not made by Xiaomi (Roborock is a subsidiary company) but same manufacturer as gen 1.

        • +1

@nuts: oh yes that's right thanks for the clarification.

        • +1

@nuts: Gen 1 is branded by xiaomi and gen 2 is branded by Roborock. So technically this is not a xiaomi product. Xiaomi.
Dont get me wrong, both gens are designed and produced by Roborock, but it seems that Roborock wants to become independent and has since released this gen2. In my opinion, the company is now short sighted and decided to earn some quick money.

        • @blabeta: As nuts pointed out, Roborock is a subsidiary. But Xiaomi may want to spin it off as an independent co. It was Xiaomi's decision on both counts so don't think that comment makes sense.

        • +1

@wolfshooter: Roborock itself crowdfunded by pre-ordering some 4500 units and started making this gen2 devices. I felt that xiaomi wants to preserve its reputation by not associate its name with this relatively not so solid product. Maybe it was for marketing needs, xiaomi responded previously the reason why gen1 does not have mop feature is because the vacuum robot was not suitable for implementation. • +1… in the time it took RobotGuy or whatever that conn artist is called to respond to an email they sent me the vacuum.
Also love my gen1, but it does get stuck on the carpet every 3rd day.

  • What is the main difference between 1 and 2? I think I see that the battery us bigger.. what else? What makes this worth the extra $250¿

    • +1

      Also a mop.

      • +3

Also quieter and able to climb an extra 1cm in height

    • Please check more detail at https://gearbite.com.au/ebay/manual/1.jpg

      • How does it handle areas with wooden floors and rugs? Does it mop the wooden floor and only vacuum the rug? Or does it mop everything if the water tank is installed?

        • lol… I give you one guess

        • @gimme: I've read reports that it mops everything which is confusing when it's supposed to be able to identify carpet…

        • -1

          @wolfshooter:

I think it would be the most useless device ever if it did that.

        • @gimme: I think that's how it works - in other words it mops with the tank in and it vacuums when you take the tank … A few other hybrid robots do that as well but I'm trying to get confirmation otherwise…

        • @gimme: just confirmed - you need to use the vacuum function separately to the mopping. It doesn't disable mopping on carpets when the mop/tank is installed..

        • -1

          @wolfshooter:

sorry wolshooter I completely misread your initial question. I thought you were saying if the robot would mop your carpets too. Stupid me!

        • @gimme: yes that was the question - and it looks like it does. It doesn't turn off the mopping function when going over carpets - you have to manually specify to avoid carpeted areas if you don't want them to be mopped. That doesn't work for me so I'm looking for an alternative. Also it doesn't seem to be able to use detergent, just water. :(

        • @wolfshooter:
oh wow..yeah if that's the case count me out. I thought it had a carpet sensing function. what does 'identified carpet' feature mean?

        • @gimme: yeah i know! It senses carpet when in vacuum mode and boosts suction but doesn't use that sensor when it mops. Crazy right!?!

        • +1

It adjusts the suction for carpet. The "mop" has a wet pad that it uses basically, hence it cant be turned off, the pad has to dry out.

        • @Hellman109: bahhah! So I guess I could attach a wet microfibre cloth to the bottom of my gen 1 to get a similar (though less efficient) result? Really hoped it would be a little bit more intelligent than that… Does the vacuum actually fo anything during the mopping cycle?

        • +1

          @wolfshooter:

interesting … might give it a try!

        • @gimme: though this version does have a tank of water with a valve. The valve is apparently only used when the vacuum is stopped - it shuts to avoid water running out when it's docked. Such a wasted opportunity imho.

        • @wolfshooter:
Probably need to wait for Gen 3…

        • +2

It cycles water over the pad from what I see, so better then a wet cloth tied to it. By the looks the front vacuums and the back mops so yeah.

      • Hello Rep any deal on gen 1?

why not pay $145 more and get it in 6 months time if not later? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342225 - Roboguy FTW

My sister sent me the same thing. Shopmonk says 3-4 weeks for delivery whereas this should be 5-10 days. I’m happy paying $30 extra for quick delivery, thanks for letting me know though.

Edit: And now I see that Shopmonk have an eBay store with 10% off making the total $495 damn that’s annoying but I guess I’ll stick with GearBite and hope it’s worth the extra $90.

edit PM reply from Gearbrite seems positive

  • any sales on Gen1?

  • I need a Gen 1. Hi Rep any chance of that?

    • Zapals had a decent deal yesterday, was tempted but really wanted the Gen 2 plus I have no prior business with Zapals.

    • +1

No many stock for Gen 1. We will promote once we have plenty stocks. Sorry about that.

      • -2

Do you provide a tax invoice? Does this price include GST?

      • great post the deal here

  • +8

Hi guys - I purchased a gen1 a few months ago, and it broke down recently for reasons unknown. It has been a fantastic unit, regardless of that issue! I've sent it back to gearbite, and they've allowed me to upgrade to the gen2 unit, with just the difference in cost between gen1-2. Totally awesome customer service! Highly recommended and very responsive to messages on eBay.

  • +3

Or you can pre-order for $730 from Roboguy here

    https://www.roboguy.com.au/xiaomi-mi-robot-vacuum-cleaner-2

    Lol 😂

  • Anyone have experience with how it handles areas with wooden floors and rugs? I read somewhere that it recognises carpet but elsewhere that if the water tank is installed it mops everything. So anyone know if it mops the wooden floor and only vacuums the rug? Or does it mop everything if the water tank is installed?

  • Should i purchase it now or wait for the price to come down? Definitely eyeing off a Gen 2 cause of the mop feature. What's the forecast +6months from now? $450?

  • So it won't mop the carpet? Won't mop random shit I leave on the carpet which it thinks is floorboards?

  • I notice the gen2 has a washable filter - I wonder if it fits in the gen1 or whether they will start offering washable filters for the gen1

  • Purchased. Best price AUD for this currently. Was waiting for Gearbest to lower their prices but can't argue with buying local.

    • +1

Me too. Been waiting for this to come out for a good price. Our floors need mopping dammit!!

  • +1

Very fast seller, delivery within three business days.
Don't bother with shopmonk.. Same price, but gearbite is extremely quick (compared to shopmonk's radio silence and 3-4 week delivery time frame)!

  • Geekbuying have it at a slightly lower price (AU$20 cheaper) but delivery is in 3 weeks (17 days pre order and 5-8 days shipping)…

  • What exactly is "Three-dimensional Vacuum Cleaning System" ?

  • Starting to pick up momentum 20 sold now :) i just bought one, glad to finally be on the xiaomi vacuum bandwagon.

Don't forget 1% cash rewards lol $5.85 further off.

    • +1

It’s a great wagon. You won’t look back. Welcome!

  • +3

This is the guy to buy Xiaomi vacs from. He doesn't sell them if he doesn't have stock in Australia so no waiting weeks or months for them to arrive.

I bought a GEN1 and it was so good I bought another one for my parents.

    • I waited 3 weeks buying from this store

  • Best place to buy genuine spare consumables for Gen 1? Filters mainly, but wouldn't mind the kit.

    • +1

got them off aliexpress a while ago. pretty cheap

  • +1

Shopmonk any good? They have it for $494 with Ebay code but shipping from overseas.

hi rep. I recently purchased gen 1 but I am interested in the gen 2. I am happy to return and pay the difference. is it possible? thanks

  • +2

Am I the only one who think mopping function is a gimmick?

    • no :)

  • Damn, annoyed I missed this. Was planning on getting it using the Cyber Monday coupon.

  • I'm sure you'll get it $100 cheaper in some upcoming 'make up a reason' sale.
