I would recommend spending the extra and getting the gw5600 series

    • you mean the solar one?

    • +2

      Why?

      • Better module features
Marginally more compact if you have smaller wrist
Some of my gw5600s had a better strap plastic
Solar so battery will last longer than you
Easier to read with thicker font

        • How much is it though?
This watch is awesome value at approx $61.00 shipped.

        • @WatchNerd:

Easy to check on eBay for the lowest price.

Sure this dw5600 will be cheaper but I am happy to pay the extra $40-50 for the gw5600 series. The dw5600 just doesn't sit well on my wrist.

Wearing a gw-225c today .. that wears well too :)

  • Looks like Amazon's AU site will be stocking Casio watches.

    • +2

Yep and it will probably sell with the added - bend over & take it like an Aussie tax also.

Nice find Casioboy. Just a heads up, this model is a bit smaller than most G-Shocks @ 42.8mm wide.

Just need to find something else to reach $75.00, then use code PANTONE for 10% off.
Best price I can find on another Casio classic now that Amazon doesn't ship it here anymore.

Spot on about the width. Earlier in the year, I picked up the solar version from the Starbuy deal, similar widths, and the first thing that I actually felt different from my other G-Shock, a G100-1B(+/=45mm), was its weight and how small it felt on the wrist. Here's a good pic to get a visual of the difference WatchNerd is referrring to.

I actually prefer the smaller size, they're a bit less discrete - which is a bit hard for a G-Shock. A lot of people I see it looks like the watch is wearing the person since they're so damn big.

Been using this watch almost daily with no problems on the original battery for at least 8 years (maybe 10 by now).

Did exactly what I wanted - worked without straps breaking, or losing power at random when I wore it (like the digital Casio watch that I bought this to replace).

Bought it on eBay from a Hong Kong seller if memory serves.

Thanks for the review. Did you use the backlight much?
I'm guessing very rarely to achieve 8 to 10 years battery life.

      • +1

Not very often, so now that you mention it, that may have helped. The numbers are dimmer than when I bought it and lately the day display's second character is missing some sections, so it is showing signs of low power, but I've been able to still use the watch without replacing the battery so far.
