The solution is for all practical intents a SATA SSD and a USB 3.0 to SATA bridge chip hooked together.

It doesn't contain a SATA drive, though.
Everything is on the same PCB. USB connection (3.0 type B), USB controller, memory chips.
No hope in extracting the drives and throwing two of them in the same enclosure for RAID.

    • Reviewer says: "Some of my other low-cost drives in enclosures were able to achieve four to ten times the small block performance (4k QD32).

This drive has a quirk, namely that it is configured to be a Removable Disk (to emulate USB keys) rather than a fixed disk, and this means that Windows treats it slightly differently in partitioning and in SMART access."

Also bear in mind this review was written over two years ago. A lot has changed in the world of SSDs since then. Still an awesome price and definitely valuable for storing less important / easily replaceable data though!
