      and free shipping

    • The price is available in pretty much all of the stores that sells Lexar.
I will try make more store listing our products if I can.
you should be able to buy NM790 not only from Mwave/Digidirect
Also from Scorptec, BPC tech, JW computers, PCCG, and many more places.

If the place you normally buy your gear doesn't have Lexar, let me know the shop name I will try call them and get them range Lexar

  • +33

    Don't buy from mwave.

They're in administration and bought out by digidirect.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/910854

    • -4

They've been bought out. Literally nothing to worry about and your comment only does harm to Digidirect

If they were in administration with no buyer, different story.

      • +5

tell that to the people waiting for their orders or refunds

It would still be better to buy from another store until they have sorted out the transition to digidirect, plus cheaper options provided in comments.

Also another story 3 days ago of insolvent trading

      • +4

your comment only does harm to Digidirect

You're talking about the company that had a data breach in October and the affected customers had to find out from third party sources. To this day, I've still not been contacted from Digidirect about my details being leaked from their systems.

        https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/1gdmhoa/psa_phot…

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/872022

Also, there's plenty of stories of them selling items not in stock and not updating the customer. They get a bare pass from me for that as it's been one item years ago that it happened to me, and a more recent purchase was quick.

Maybe they'll let Mwave operate separately, or maybe they'll put their fingerprints all over their operations. Its a fair warning, I'd say

        • I'm not going to read it so I'll take your word for it. You said none of this before, it appeared you were aiming at mwave. You should have said mwave had been bought out by Digidirect and Digidirect have issues.

    • -3

No problem ordering from MWave, Digidirect has been around much longer than many other computer shops.

  • +16
    • commenting here cos i need to before negging the deal. cheaper elsewhere

    • How do you get free shipping? Cheapest in $21 Aus Post?

    • RIP

    • Oh dang, I thought I'd seen it cheaper somewhere, but this is $355 now. Guess they wanted to cover their "free" shipping :-\

    https://betteroffice.store/products/biwin-m350-4tb-pcie4-0-r…
    Biwin M3450 4TB Pcie4x4 HMB ie Dramless for $249

    • +1

Is dramless better or worse for the purposes of using it as a general usage in a nuc - OS, storage, data transfer etc.? Thanks

      • fine for general use, although i prefer to use dramless as storage drive

        • +2

NM790 is also DRAMless although it has an incredibly high performance for DRAMless

    • Is that using SLC, MLC, or TLC QLC?

    • This seems like a great price for 4TB. What's the catch?

I am in the market for a 4TB drive that will be a secondary and store and run the Drive Turbo RetroFe build as well as a to be determined Lightgun Build.

OS is on a separate drive.

      • The catch is that I coughed up a lot of money to fund this.

Our Nintendo Switch 2 cards selling well, so I have more pocket money to play with.
Also check out our NM990 prices

  • +4

Whoa, I haven't checked NVMe prices in ages. Did they really go up this much?? I got a couple of these for $250 a year or 2 ago.

    • +2

Yeah I bought a stack of these NVMes in 2TB a couple of years back for around $125 each. Good times.

    • There was a NAND overstock back around Q3 2023. Prices were dirt cheap cause of it. I should have bought 2.

  • +8

I picked the worst option amongst sellers it appears

    • +4

I consider this a successful failure. Chin up.

    • +2

Consider it a PSA so more people stay away from Mwave.

      @Mwave Are Scammers

      • Scammers? How?

There's a difference between going under and being disabled to complete basic tasks vs being a scammer.

There was a pc company some decades back, can't recall their name, intentionally did group buys without ordering the parts. Also borrowed money from their own employees. THAT is scamming.

        • +1

no, I'm tagging the account @Mwave Are Scammers.

          • -1

            @impoze: Oh right.

Still, no need to stay away once bought out.

Prior to that, even I was warning everyone.

            • +1

@justtoreply: I still see a period of slow fulfilment though.

Plenty of people still waiting on their orders or refunds in this reddit thread

      • -1

Mwave and Digidirect are pretty solid from my perspective.
They did purchase stock and if you order from them your order will be fulfilled.

  • +1

Just noticed there’s a lot of deals for SSDs, is there another price crash? Please let there be another price crash.

    • No, there won't be price crash this year, if there is one, I will lead the charge

      • Thanks for all you do Chris!
Any chance of another vendor doing the $335?
I snoozed and BPC have pumped it back up to $355 :(

        • +1

335 will not provide enough profit to cover the freight on these drives.
But if you call some of these stores and ask them what if you go and pick up.
They might willing to do it cheaper
but again, i have no control over the retail prices.

let me know how you go

          • @Lexar ANZ Chris: Any chance the 2tb heatsink version will be sub $200 soon?

            • @miinht: I will check the 2tb no heatsink version if i can do something about it.
the heatsink version volume is too low, but we do sell heatsink seperately

              • @Lexar ANZ Chris: Ah I see, thanks Chris I'd be interested in snagging one if possible. I know BPC Tech has the no heatsink for 190 atm but was looking out for one with the heatsink. Is the separate heatsink easy to install onto the SSD and functions the same as one preinstalled?

                • @miinht: Depending on what you do, NM790 doesn't need heatsink to operate, and third party heatsink is usually either two metal with sticky thermal gel, or have few tiny screws, it's easy to install and function the same.

  • +1

I am still waiting for $299 price Mark for this SSD 😭. 359 maybe this is reasonable price now and wont go muxh lower considering all the inflations

    • +1

Look at comment above. Cheaper at BPC tech. That’s where i bought it from 1.5 years ago

  • +3

Back in 2015, I was sure that we would be buying 20TB SSD's for $300 in 2025 and 100TB mechanical hard drives for $300. I was way off.

  • +1

There are cheaper sellers as mentioned in other comments which would a better option.

  • +5

Why are people still promoting Mwave deals? Haven’t they seen the news?

    • Sorry I honestly had no idea

      • +1

Don't worry about it. I had no idea either but because of your post I'm now aware

      • +1

Don't be sorry that's not your fault. Good thing is more people get to know this by your post.

  • Anyone know about them swapping to inferior components on the nm790?

I've read it in a few places but no one has shared any details.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/1k65eo9/comment/…

    • @Lexar ANZ Chris
If you could please share anything you know about this I would really appreciate it. I'm looking to get the 4tb version but random comments like this have so far put me off.

      • I would like to know this also, have been hanging out for a storage drive on my pc. Running off only a single OS drive at the moment.

        • Just a heads up, Chris gave a response below.

      • +2

Hi guys, sorry I showed up late.

Whether you know the brand or not, Lexar is made by Longsys, and that's the biggest manufacturer in the world.
I am not aware of any components swap
Just use common sense, I wouldn't think we are doing anything dodgy on one of the best selling drives we have to save couple of cents
But I am also not in production team in HQ, I have no right to make official statement on this.
So what I can say and offer is this:
if you bought two of the drives and upon testing their performance are not within reasonable range, claim warranty.
if your warranty is denied please @me here in Ozbargain.
So far I havent heard anything from anyone regarding this, only here in Ozbargain people talk about this.
After running this new pricing promo we have sold more than 4000 units, so far 0 complaints, 0 DOA.

        • Awesome Chris, thanks for your response.

I'm just going off what I've read just randomly doing some research. But your response has given me the confidence to make the purchase.

Thanks again, have a good one :)

            @Notatightass: Hi Notatightass:

            Completely understand.
Lexar was a supermarket USB and Photographer card brand in AU/NZ
Barely sold any SSD and RAM in 2022, I joined in 2023, and quadrupled their revenue very shortly after.
We really just started going strong in components for like 2 years or so.

But fear not, it's made by big corp that also makes tons of other brands.
It's a legit drive, Ozbargainers been buying it since my first deal in 2023, so far you don't see anyone come up and say their drive died or they are not happy with their purchases.
This NM790 is very solid product, I use them myself. You'll love it

        • What test would you run?

          • @AUBRX: I know all the drives were tested before they come out of factory.
So whatever software you want to run is fine

    • To my knowledge it was not the nm790, but Lexar did have some issues historically with swapped out controllers. While they did address some issues with firmware updates, they also removed features that were not removed from marketing materials. Sneaky behaviour from a few brands similar to this lately.

Overall, while it's not good behaviour, nothing to date has suggested it was systemic within Lexar, but rather an issue with parts used by multiple manufacturers - not many of which handled it well.

Nothing to suggest Lexar has systemic issues at this stage.

      • Ok thanks for sharing :)

I would just like some further confirmation however. It's not the first time I've seen a similar comment for the NM790 while researching which SSD to get.

    • +1

yes, already linked in previous comment.

  • Bought a lot of gear from Mwave over many years - their service was great and if anything ever went wrong with an order they were quick and courteous in rectifying it. There website was one of the best, especially the product filter options. Sad to see them go under and I sympathise with those who been affected. But also happy that they are continuing under new ownership because competition is good and there will be fewer job losses than if they'd shut down completely. Hopefully, new owner's Digidirect will make it work and I wish them well.

    • +1

      Mwave didn't have any issues.
The entire drama was from Esel, the previous owner of Mwave.
There are a lot of question about what Esel did.

But now Mwave is owned by Digidirect.
I know quite few people from both Mwave and Digidirect, they are all really good veterans in the industry, solid folks.
Bottom line is they are not scammers, and they are not the reason of what recently happened.

That said, if you really don't want to buy from Mwave, there are other shops you can buy from.
Scorptec, PCCG, BPC, JW, and many more places
