  • LG Q6

    Processor: Cortex
    Processor Model Number: A53

    General Specifications

    Qualcomm Snapdragon 435

Just a tad confused? The LG Q6 looks like an awesome amount of phone for the price, but it just looks so… boring?

    • It has similar styling to a G6, but a bit more budget. Not sure what's wrong with that style wise for the price?

      • -5

I don't know, I think it's problem is it just looks so same-same. You could unbrand it and give it to someone and they wouldn't be able to tell it from lots of other phones with same or similar designs..

        • +7

Feel free to spend another grand on a phone for an apple logo.

@Orpheus: Wasn't expecting all the negs, I certainly am no iSheep (their phones look the same anyway) but what is LG known for in their phone department?

They don't have anything to make you realise it's their phone. That's both good and bad, but it just seems like they are just grabbing ideas off everyone else and making their own phone.

@pennypincher98: Not sure what you talking about. LG was one of the first few to come out with minimum bezels, even before samsung. G6 looks great, IMHO and if you get a copy of that, nothing wrong with that at all.

As for features, not sure about this model but LG has some of the best audio quality in some phones out there as well as top notch video recording capabilities. Their cameras are also very good albeit, not the best. The processors used by all mobile phone manufacturers are the same, so no differentiation between anyone.

@rdhupar: Maybe if I saw it in person I would change my mind. It could be even the background colour scheme that makes it look dull. I appreciate that his still has minimal side bezels as well.

What about this phone screams LG though? Or even hints at it? Besides the fact it was copied from the G6?

        • +1

@pennypincher98: I think you answered your own question :) G6 is an LG and the fact is looks the same screams it to be an LG.

TBH, I get where you are coming from but I think the design looks fabulous.

          @pennypincher98:
Phones are almost entirely screen now, and most have settled on similar rear fingerprint scanners and dual camera positions.

How wildly different are you expecting phones to look?

        • +1

@pennypincher98: This is just imho. I bought one of these for my mums bday last month…

If there is one thing we noticed straight away, it was that the screen has rounded corners. It looks quite nice.

When it is side by side with a Moto G4 Plus it looks much much smaller and thinner (aspect ratio), and the screen seems to be crisper (very technical i know)…

        • @rdhupar: Haven't seen the design in person so I wouldn't know, like I said (and got negged for?). A picture can't convey all the information and I don't know how it feels to hold etc etc

What I was meaning to ask was: What distinguishes the LG G6 from its competitors? What will make someone buy this phone over the hundreds of others flooding the market?

Interested because I am in the market for a new phone, contract is up with my current one and I would prefer not to enter a new one or keep going with it.

        • @j-rock: Thank you for being the first person to answer my question. Maybe that is LG's forte. Their screen and aspect ratio.

I know audio quality was mentioned before, but personally I think that title belongs to HTC. I know HTC's have their own faults as do any phone, but audio quality is the best (& loudest) I have heard.

        • @pennypincher98:

i think you need to do some research. i guess its understandable from a POV of someone who does not care or understand

Audio quality - we were to is the hi def Quad dac in the LG phones - for use with earphones

i lot people prefer the minimal design of phones, and as pointed out most phones do look the same from the front. basically a piece of glass. most phones are going for the new aspect ratio, i do believe LG was one of the first to adopt this.

Maybe your questions can be directed towards LG marketing team or something, cos a lot of us wanna ask LG the same thing. ( V30 marketing and promotions going very strong in australia …)

what makes this phone stand out - is the price point to performance. im not sure if youre aware, but high end phones are becoming 1.3 - 1.5k starting..
          $300 dont expect much.

        • @astarman: Read what I originally said before going off on a tangent.

looks like an awesome amount of phone for the price

High end phones are easily over $1000 I know. This is a mid ranger, so you aren't comparing apples with apples.

We were to is the hi def Quad dac

I had a feeling you were trying to say something there but the meaning was lost.
I'm not expecting much for $300. Please find where I said that this wasn't good value.

Maybe your questions can be directed towards LG marketing team or something, cos a lot of us wanna ask the same thing (V30 marketing and promotions going very strong in Australia …)

Can't be sure whether this was sarcasm, a contradictory statement or what.
And yes, for the record I don't understand, which is why I am trying to get an answer. Looks like you just don't care to read.

@astarman: I used to not expect much from a $300 phone, but then I picked up a Moto G5+ as a stop gap measure to replace my faulty Nexus 6P… and to be honest, I'm struggling to justify replacing it with a flagship. It's got a relatively stock UI, that's quick and snappy. All the apps that I use run fine. Build quality is great. Battery lasts forever. It has dual SIM (which means I can increase my data by grabbing cheap/free prepaid SIMs off OzB). The only area where it's lacking is the camera - it's fine, but not amazing, and low light sucks. But is that really worth another $800-$1000???

        • +2

@pennypincher98: You'll know it's their phone if it won't boot.

        • +1

@dontpanic: Yeah exactly. I'm not one to spend a whole heap on a flagship when a midranger / ex-flagship does the job just fine. Sure they can have their moments where things can be a bit sluggish but generally great value at a price point.

Especially if you get some great clearance price. Eg Nexus or HTC One M8 for about $170. (This was at the good guys, unable to post as a deal as there was only 3 of each left)

        • @pennypincher98:
What distinguishes the G6 from its competitors? It has better specs than just about any other $500 Android phone. And its high screen-to-size ratio is not available in any other $500 phone.

As for the $300 Q6 - there are several phones in that price range with similar specs. But none of them have its screen-to-size ratio.

        • @dexx: Yeah it's screen to size ratio seems good for the price.

looks like an awesome amount of phone for the price

I'll stick by my original words in my original post.

    • I like the small bezel. Much better than the hornrim glasses that so many phones wear!
But i dont like the 18:9 aspect ratio.

      • Yeah I agree with the small bezel, I like it how it's minimal but also appreciate that they have kept the side bezels there. One of my main gripes with the S8. Not that I would really consider it anyway, but if I was given one free as part of a plan I would sell it.

The 18:9 aspect ratio was indeed interesting. Obviously I don't know what the screen looks like just through another screen but they have certainly gone with a less popular option there.

  • This looks a bit different to phones you typically find at this price point. Minimal bezel design hasn't really made it way to cheaper end of the market yet.

  • Does anyone know when this sale ends?

    • Prob next Wed

With the LG Q6…Does anyone know if the second SIM slot is 3G capable and not just 2G? Ran into a bit a problem with the Moto G3 where my new SIM didn't work in the second slot.

    • Maybe check LG Site for full specs
