Yeh. For a dashcam inbuilt maybe….But I wonder what percentage of mobile users still buys a navigator when you can access Google map from mobile with live updates.

yes…such kind of GPS devices should vanish because google map is much better in terms of traffic update, navigation algorithm, GUI….

Not a fan of baking my phone under the sun (not parked, i mean while driving)

Also, my phone gets real hot when charging + navigating at the same time.
If i don't charge it, battery goes down real quick from navigating.

      • Buy a new phone?

I mount my phone infront of a vent, so it's always nice and cool. Also it's navigation is unrivaled by the dedicated GPS units, and the screen and touch interface is much easier and nicer to use.

        • If you use phone for GPS daily say about 4 hours a day with all new phone with OLED watch the burn in slowly happen right in front of you

        • @tong21186: 100% agree, although if you are using it that much perhaps it's obvious you should buy a dedicated unit. I would guess that most people don't use GPS every single day (unless uber/taxi/delivering/for work)

    • It also has ADAS if that's not something already built into your car and you think it is handy.

    • It can depend on what else you use your phone for. If you also use the phone as a music player or a camera, when you are on the move, then the dedicated GPS can be useful. Many of them nowdays come with lifetime map updates etc. What happens with a phone being used as a GPS when you get a phone call - I've never used one so just wondering if they multi task or you lose the GPS.

      • I can't imagine having multiple devices can ever provide as good an experience and a single device.

I do some longer distance courier work and everywhere I go, even if I know the route, I have the phone Bluetooth'd and navigation running to give me traffic updates and route changes. I also have internet music playing (free with my plan), and the music conveniently dims when the navigation lady talks. The music also cuts out when I make/receive a phone calls, but I can still hear the navigation which keeps on running fine.

        • what device do you have?

        • @try2bhelpful: I have a galaxy S8 but anything running the same version of Android will have the same functionality.

The difference will be that older phones may use too much power and lose batteries even whilst charging when running double/triple duty. And even mine gets quite warm so a vent mounted cradle is the best.

        • @grb: thanks for the info, maybe I should’ve jumped on the Note deal.

  • Another similar item but with a smaller LCD screen:

    • This is GPS tracking only not navigating? BTW, anyone knows if wireless Bluetooth video transmission dash cam exists for front and back or only all cables or crappy FM transmitter at the moment?

  • You are better of going instore and getting them to beat Harvey Norman at 478 then use voucher to get 150 off
