  • Curious, can anyone tell if 24 inch 4k is better than 24 inch 1080p?

    • Not sure, I’m currently questioning myself if you can notice the pixels with 1080p vs 4K.

      • +1

Even on Surface Pro you can see it is clearer that 1080p laptop

        • Might have to do with the fact that the Surface has a decent glossy LCD vs mostly generic low end matte screens.

        • +2

@plmko: glossy is actually less practical than matte. Ppl started making everything glossy coz it looks better on store shelves when laptops all nice and shiny.

        • @keishton: Less practical; maybe, but colour accuracy and clarity is definitely better on gloss panels.

    • +1

Of course.. even my iPad mini has a noticeable better resolution than my old 24" FHD monitor. But I wouldn't bother with 24" as an upgrade, 27" minimum.

    • +1

      Yes it's night and day!

    • Absolutely. I have a 24" 1080p and 1440p same size, and I can quite clearly tell the difference in sharpness.

  • -5

24" 4K is gonna be terrible, even 1440p on a 24" is not that great

    • +1

Will look very sharp at least.

    • Actually, 1440p 16:9 doesn't look all that bad on a 24" display; but ehh, different strokes for different folks I guess. Too bad no such monitor exists….

  • At least make it 28

  • Yeah, 4K on such a small monitor isn't that great. Would have been better if it was bigger.

    • +1

From time to time the 27 inch comes on sale for $399 delivered, local aus stock on eBay sales. It's been posted here a number of times.

      • Damn! That would be amazing. Will keep an eye out for that. Ta

    • It depends how close you sit. For a computer monitor, 24" is more than big enough.

  • I have a 24 inch 4K monitor. It’s really great but unfortunately text in apps or webpages are really really small. The scaling is set to 250% from me and sometimes the text is still amazingly small.

I’d say get a 28 inch monitor. 32 inch is just too big to enjoy the crispness of a 4K monitor.

    • +1

but unfortunately text in apps or webpages are really really small.

That is the problem with Windows desktop app, Windows store app is better.

I cannot understand after that many years Microsoft still cannot do that properly. Like with iPad no matter which version which resolution their scaling are all the same but just high resolution one looks sharper.

4k u need at least 27" to not strain your eyes…

    ideal size for 4k is 28 - 32"

    • For desktop yes. For gaming, no. UI should be scaleable.

  • +1

Agree with what others have said. 4k on 24" makes very little practical sense.

  • Showing US$246.99 + $80.39 shipping for me.

    • same for me too, are we missing anything?

    • Looks like it's expired now, cheapest for 24" is now $279 USD and that doesn't even ship to AUS….

  • If nvidia or amd added support for integer scaling to their graphics drivers I'd buy this monitor in a heartbeat.

    • I can't remember which one, but one of the teams acknowledges it and intends on adding such an option in, the other, whilst acknowledging it, has no intention of adding such a feature in.

  • +1

Apparently this isn't a bad choice as a budget retina monitor. I'm not sure I'd want to import something like this though.

    • Finally someone that has a clue.

    • -2

Probably a better option to go for, but doesn’t have the 4K. I don’t think you will notice it though

      • +2

Yea, he really will, you'd have to be blind not to notice.

  • I bought this for 198 few weeks ago. Its full hd. But anyways you wouldn’t notice 4k in this small screen. Its perfect for doing computing and watching movies. Has 2 hdmi ports and can make as dual screen or quad screen using both hdmi.

    • +2

That is a ppi of 91, the human eye can see around 330ppi. 4k on 24" is only 190ppi he will see a difference and it will be significant!

      • is only 190ppi he will see a difference and it will be significant!

        This bit is true.

the human eye can see around 330ppi.

This bit is false. It depends on viewing distance. For a smartphone, I can easily see the difference between 330ppi iPhones (I presume you're an iPhone user) and a 1080p screen of the same size (about 440ppi). Going from 440ppi to the 570ppi of QHD screens is harder. You have to really look for it.

If you want to take it to the extreme, 330ppi is poor in VR. Even 570ppi is also poor.

But if your TV viewed from 6m away is 330ppi, it would be a waste. You wouldn't be able to resolve pixels at that distance.

    • Sorry, but you are wrong. You will definitely notice a difference. I am so sick of my FHD screen and ready for an upgrade to 4K. I wont be doing any gaming, it's just much easier on the eyes with sharper text, crisper photos etc.

lol @ all the people saying its not worth it because they cant afford one

    • +4

Not sure how you came to that conclusion, especially when people are recommending a bigger size (which would cost more), but okay?

    • I believe they were straight out saying it's not worth it, myself included.

  • HDMI 2.0?

  • having bought a 4k screen a while ago, 2 actually, it's the worst thing i've done recently.
If i could take it back i would get 2 x 2k screens.
kicking myself - only use 2k for computing and games.

i love high res, but 4k is too small and my screens are 32 inch lol

  • How would this do for photo editing?
