Just got mine delivered, it is big. My other half said it looked like the anal intruder from Top Secret.

      • O.O please don't try help me with an anal intruder ROFL.

        • It took a ctack team of surgeons 3 hours to take the smile off his face.

  • Looks like it has some great reviews !! Iron chef uses this type of cooking all the time :)

    • They’re really amazing. Got one 6 months ago and use it all the time.

      • Got mine a few weekw ago and love it!!! I’ve cooked steak and chicken breast so far. Love it!!!

    • yes I have one - works best with a deep saucepan. You can cook thick pieces of beef. Put into the fridge. Come home from work, heat up to 78C until heated through, then sear on both sides for colour and that "bbq" flavour.

Apparently you cant "overcook" meat as it is always cooking at a constant and maximum temperature. I've never tried to overcook but it works well to get a restaurant style thick piece of steak cooked to whatever colour you prefer - all the way through.

  • What are the bags you use when cooking ??

    • It you run a string line and pegs heat safe ziplocks work.

    • I haven't had issues with Coles brand ziplock bags for cooking chicken anywhere between 1-4 hours. Haven't tried longer cooks.

      • thanks, yeah I might look into the Glad ones as well. Ziplock itself can be got from Costco but I don't have a membership. I'm heading to America for Christmas might see if they have some in the supermarket over there.

  • People who've bought these previously, do you use them much?

Yeah. I got mine in February. I'd say it's probably my 5th most used thing..order goes.. stove - oven - espresso machine - toaster - anova - microwave. It's ahead of the other crap like.. waffle maker, banquet fryer, bread maker, cake mixer, blender etc.

Although I'm stuck on the one recipe that I absolutely love.. The crispy skin chicken thigh, with yam puree base and apple and fennel salad. Super simple and delicious.

Eggs are also great too. Can chuck two dozen eggs into the water still in their shell. An hour later and you've got 24 perfectly poached eggs to crack open, restaurant quality. Great for big cook ups for large family gatherings if you don't want to monitor / manually poach eggs. Almost set and forget until the alarm goes off.

  • I'm interested, do any people on here use these to cook frozen meats?

    • hi you could but I am not sure how long the timer runs for, you may need to cook 2 x 60 mins.

Chicken breasts can be seasoned and sealed in bags, then frozen as-is. To cook, pull them out of the freezer and drop them straight into the water bath, making sure to add an extra hour to the cooking time in order to allow the chicken to fully thaw and heat through to the center.

  • Bought this with the Google home mini deals last week. They talk to each other! Welcome to the future.

    • what are the commands ?

"hey google, how's my sous vide going ?" / "hey google, how long till sous vide is ready?"

or is it more nuanced like "hey google, what temperature is my sous vide and how long has it been running for"

  • I ordered yesterday and it has shipped already from NSW, so Christmas delivery should be fine. Pretty sure there was an option for expedited shipping, but I just went with the normal one. A friend ordered one a couple of weeks ago and it was less than a week delivery. We're in a "regional" postcode so lots of things take longer …
