    I think these only work in one direction. Or I’ve had incredible bad luck with faulty cables.

      yeah I recall reading that about hdmi>dvi too.
      the question is…which way?

      Yeah, they only go from DP to HDMI. Unless you have a scaler.
      DP is a better cable with higher bandwidth and it's backwards compatible with HDMI.

      DVI and HDMI can go either way, but DVI does not do audio
