      Every video card I have owned has been d-sub or hdmi and every tv for that matter besides the older coax

    Lots of business orientated computers and laptops use DisplayPort (e.g. HP laptops) instead of HDMI.

    Most high end graphics cards now come with 3x displayport or mini displayport. A common setup is 3x DP, 1x HDMI, 1x DVI. It's also become the industry standard for any new high end monitor. It is not the standard for 4k TVs which typically use HDMI 2.0.

    Displayport 1.2 can support 4k @ 60hz with 10bit color range and 4-4-4 chroma subsampling (while HDMI 2.0 doesn't quite have the bandwidth). This is important for people who work with media on a 4k 10bit monitor.

    Oops. I misread it. I thought it was HDMI to DP. I ordered it already before I realized the mistake though. So that's a waste.
