Cheap 3 meter HDMI cables

Anyone have a source where they get generic 3m HDMI cables from?

I'm about to wall mount my new TV and want to fill all the HDMI ports and run cables down behind the wall to future proof it.

  • You can get a 3m hdmi shipped free from ebay for $9. That was the first one I saw so you could probably get it cheaper.

Have you searched this site? There was an Amazon AU deal posted yesterday.

If you are putting the cables in the wall, probably best to get half decent ones. I'm sure you don't want to break open the wall to replace one because you saved $3…..

  • 5 Pack HDMI Cable (3m) including freight.

I'm using a few of these. They do the job.

    MSY
    Good quality and cheap as.

  • Thanks for the comments guys.
I don't know much about HDMI cables apart from they are all pretty much the same. Is this still a gimmick? Super expensive HDMI cables?

I just bought a really good 75 inch TV (4K, HDR etc) and don't want the cable to be the limiting factor in sound or video.

  • For proper future proofing with this brand new TV should I consider HDMI 2.0 cables? Higher bandwidths seems to be better for 4K content at 60fps

  • After a bit more research I decided on the MSY option:

They are version 2.0 which will hopefully be better for 4K and HDR as well as futureproofing

      • Did you even read that article?

"Update 1/2017: There's been an update to the HDMI spec. The new version is called HDMI 2.1 and it adds several new features including a new cable type. You don't need the new cables or HDMI 2.1 (right now), but it's worth checking out so you've got all the latest info."

          I did, hence why I wrote 2.0.

        • @haru:

          Both exist actually:

          https://www.cnet.com/news/hdmi-2-0-what-you-need-to-know/

2.0a were the fastest before 2.1 came out

        • @Lionheart: Wrong. I'm not referring to the HDMI 2.0 spec, I'm referring to HDMI 2.0 cables, of which there is no such thing. To quote the article you linked:

          Bottom line
          No new cables.
          Increased frame rates.
          No new cables.
          Multiple video streams.
          No new cables.
          Backward-compatible.

          And, wait for it…

          No new cables.

Same plug, different speeds means different HDMI cables, same plug

          @Lionheart:

Same plug, different speeds means different HDMI cables

          No it doesn't.

All you need is a v1.4 HDMI cable (you're confusing HDMI ports which have different specs), there is no difference in any cable of the length you're after and there's no such thing as a v2.0 cable.

The only time you have to worry about cables is when you go over a certain length as you get signal loss and distortion, then you should get a premium/certified/high speed cable, but even then it can be problematic.

For the length you're after any v1.4 cable is fine and supports 4K, 3D and ARC.

The nonsense cable manufacturers use is just marketing and causes confusion.

EDIT: The only change in cables is the new HDMI 2.1 spec just released, where the cable bandwidth has been massively increased to 48 Gbps (currently it's 18).

Still uses the same plug, it's backwards compatible but needs HDMI 2.1 ports to work at full speed.
