      I like mate pro 10.

    • +1

From all reports, the Mate 10 is the better camera but the S8 has better processing. Low light shots tend to look "nicer" on an S8 despite technically being better on the Mate 10 (it captures more detail, but the colouring looks a little off).

Likely with software updates Huawei could do a lot to improve it, whereas Samsung can't. Screen I'd go for the S8+, OLED beats LCD (the Mate 10 Pro has OLED, the Mate 10 doesn't).

Both are a huge upgrade over the Z3/G4. I went from a Z1 to a G4 to an S7 and will probably hang onto the S7 for another year despite it being a year old, because there's nothing wrong with it. Screen is gorgeous, device hasn't slowed down significantly, camera is still great. Z1 and G4 had multiple issues.

  • Anyone think Telstra will match the IPhone 8 lol? :(
Damn it I wish Optus had good coverage in my area.

    • +1

      Spoke to Telstra online rep:

Here's what we can offer to you nearest to your request.

Yes, exact match to what you are looking for is our L plan $109/mo with iPhone 8 64GB

You may consider to have our 2GB plan with iPhone 8 64GB (unlimited calls/text) this will be $89/mo,
      -$10 porting discount
      -5GB bonus data.

The plan will be a total of $79/mo
      ♦ 7GB (2GB+5GB)
      ♦ unlimited calls /txt
♦ iPhone 8 64GB (delivery will be 3-5 business days)

      • Thanks mate. Will toss up whether I should give Optus a go since they offer 30 day returns.

      • Just tried and they flat out refused any adjustments to their normal prices.

    • Telstra's plan includes the iPhone 6S which is much cheaper/older. I doubt they'll match this.

    Hmm tempting!!

Can someone check my calculations please. I am looking at what it'll cost me in the next 15 months (which is when my contract ends)

    Some assumptions:
Will replace my phone pretty much after my contract ends (so in 15 months)
I will use their trade in scheme of $420 for my device (mobile monster also offers $420 for it, will look for a better deal later)
If I kept my phone for 15 months, I assume it'll only be worth $150 at best

Scenario 1: Stay with my contract which is $87 a month or $1305 over 15 months. Sell my phone for $150 = $1155

Scenario 2: If I moved to an iPhone 8, I will have to pay a payout fee of $765 (which I'll offset with $420 from selling my device). So I'm $345 out of pocket. This plan will cost me $885 ($59 x 15 months) which means total is $1230

If I keep to my assumptions, Scenario 2 is only $75 more expensive than scenario 1 (and I get a new phone lol)

Only looking at what it'll cost me in the next 15 months because i assumed that I will be replacing my current one pretty much straight after.

  • Was gonna go and pick mate pro 10. Then realise its online only.

  • +1

Got new IPhone 8 from it, pretty good deal. For those who have the 10% student discount on their plans at the moment and are recontracting, the 10% carries over just so you know. So $53.10 per month which is so good :)

    • No it does not, it will be removed when 1st bill is generated the following month. This is similar to previous 25% off monthly access fee where any other discounts other than 25% were removed.

      • +1

In the contract which was emailed to me it states that I have 10% student offer is in the supplementary services. I did ask the 2 reps before signing up whether my discounts will carry on for the length of the plan when I recontract and they said yes. We will wait and see on the first bill..

    • Hi, this is awesome! Did you apply for this deal online, or through Optus chat? Thanks

  • +1

Why can't I see this deal when I follow the link? Takes me $62/month deal with only 2gb data?!

  • +1

Seeing $62/pm and can't find the option to the 20Gb/m data plan.

    • +2

View all plans, scroll down and look for the $59 special.

      • +1

        Still Can't find it

  • +10

I just went to Harvey Norman in Liverpool and they also gave me a $200 eftpos with this deal because I ported my number from Telstra

    • +1

Sweet I'll give that a shot. Do you get the phone at store or do Optus post it out?

    • +1

Do you have to port in to Optus to get the $200 Gift Card ? I thought it was for all new and reconstructing customers. Which phone did you sign up on the $59 deal. Would you know if the Huawei Mate 10 Pro was available ?

      • Huawei Mate Pro 10 not available as HN don’t sell it.

    • +1

Hey, I'm interested in doing this but how did you go about asking the staff about this deal. Did you show them the website or is it already in their portal etc?

      • They should know just ask the staff.

    • Is porting from virgin counted? Even though virgin is on optus network?

  • -4

But this says lease. Phone return to Optus after 24months, And a fee upto $499 if damaged.

    • +2

      Says own for me.

    • +2

Yep all good. Pls don't neg me lol

  • +2

Just heard on the radio that HN are doing $200 prepaid EFTPOS cards for new customers on this plan

    • +1

Do you know the deal till when ?

    • +1

Do they offer the Mate 10 Pro at HN? It's not found on their website.

Edit: Harvey Norman online rep said this phone's in their system, but no stock as of yet and unfortunately was advised they can't sign you up to the deal if they don't have stock.

Apparently the eftpos card deal ends Monday, 11th December, so no chance of them receiving stock before then. What a pity.

      • -2

Damn,I want a Mate 10 Pro, 360 VR Camera and $200 EFTPOS card and all plan incisions included. Sell phone and VR for at least $950-$1000, keep the $200 EFTPOS and we are just paying another $200 for 24 months. That's less than $10 a month with free music streaming, Netflix , Nat Geo, Optus Sport.wTF deal, haha you the people who signed up on Telstra, pity them. Optus is also bringing the 25% back according to friends Worthing I. Sydney but that will only be around 23 Rd Dec to 23th Dec. 25% of this plan will be EPIC. Go Optus Go.

        • Well you could always sign up for a S8 or one of the other phones in this deal which Harvey Norman has in stock? The Iphone 8 might be best value for on-selling?

        • Sell phone and VR for at least $950-$1000

Which is the best place to sell for that price? Gumtree?

  • Would iPhone 8 be locked to Optus want to get the deal but gift phone to wife on Telstra

    • +4

Nope, all iPhones are unlocked at time of purchase

  • +5

This link here seems to show all of the phones you can get on the $59 without needing to change anything:)

    http://offer.optus.com.au/christmas-sale

    Iphone 8
    iPhone 7+
    GS8
    Huawei Mate 10 Pro
    HTC U11
    Sony XZ Premium

    • iPhone 7+ is listing as +$26 handset fee can anyone confirm you can get it for $59per month without handset fee?

  • +1

    From more details..

MERRY GIFTMAS - $59 MY PLAN PLUS PROMO PLAN:
Offer available to new services in Retail, Telesales, Online and Webchat. Offer available to recontracting services Online and Webchat only. Available with selected handsets. Not available with other offers. Offer ends 3/1/18.

  • +1

really wish they offered the 8 plus. i asked last night, but no luck

    • Same wish here. Also wish same with Telstra F&F deal.

  • Damn, if I ordered the Virgin Mobile deal last night, is there any provision to cancel the contract before I receive the phone?

    • +1

Isn't there usually a cooling off period (14days?!) with telco products?

So if it's shipped, maybe you could just bring the unopened phone into a store and cancel the contract.

Otherwise, yeah give them a call and cancel on the spot

    • I ordered the Virgin Mobile deal last night and called up the sales reps. They say you just have to refuse the phone delivery and it'll automatically be cancelled.

    • +2

As a rule the teleco industry regulations state that you only get a cooling off period if the purchase was made as a result of an unsolicited contact (call, door knockers etc)
There is no cooling off period if you initiate the purchase yourself.

  • +2

FYI - This is for iPhone 8 64 GB, for those who need more space, iPhone 8 256 GB is available through the same plan for $10 more (69/mth) as per Livechat

  • +1

The Optus version of Mate 10 Pro being single sim ruins everything for me :(

    • So it is not dual sims? can you confirm it?

      • Please let us know

        • Talked to Optus today and no, it is a single sim version. I will skip the Optus deal then

      • +1

It's not out of the box, but according to this post, flashing a different firmware will unlock the second sim slot (ie there's a second physical sim slot, but it's been disabled by the Optus firmware, hence flashing a different firmware removes this restriction and unlocks the second sim slot for use).

Don't quote me on that though, as I've no idea personally.

        • +1

The single sim and dual sim models are different hardware.
Used to work for Huawei and this has always been the case. Software reflash won’t fix it.

In some parts of asia they only sell the dual
Sim version and carriers disable the second sim slot but in Australia they are two distinctly different models.

  • Looks like the Sony maybe the winner on this for me.

    Agree?

    • +18

      No

  • +1

    This seems impossibly cheap.

  • +1

Available in store. Signed up in NSW with the S8. Thanks OP!

  • +8

I can confirm Harvey Norman(North Ryde - may be in other stores too) gives 200$ eftpos gift card when u sign up contract with them.

    • Does it have to be a port in or new customer for the $200 Gift Card ?

      • I have ported in my number from Vodafone(number had to be new for Optus). Indeed I am in store and confirmed the same with store representative.

        • Does Harvey Norman have to have the phone you want in stock to get the $200 eftpos card or do they just sign you up and a phone can be sent out to you? I want the Sony Xperia XZ Premium.

Though, they might not even consider me seeing I'm using a Coles Prepaid Sim which still uses the optus network :/

    • Hello Sir, So we goto Harvey Norman and sign up this deal in their store?

      • Yes. In-store

        • thanks, is that 200$ eftpos gift card to be used in HN only or whereelse?

        • +1

@electricbluee: if it's the same as the rest of the deals it's just an eftpos card not a Hn giftcard. Ie. Can be use anywhere eftpos is accepted

    • So do we need to sign up with Telstra or Optus via Harvey Norman?

      • We need to sign up with Optus in Harvey Norman Store.

        • Thanks for quick reply. Any link to refer ?

  • Excellent deal, thank you so much OP.

  • Very nice deal and good to have a choice of phones. Going for the HTC U11. Cheers.

  • Wish they had the s8plus option for $5 more like virgin

    • try Live Chat, they maybe able to assist.

      • Nope :( got declined when I asked this morning.

    • Do you have a link for the Vodafone offer? I am only find $85

  • Great deal, anyone know if I can migrate my number from Vodafone?

    • Of course you can.

    • You should be able to. Unless you’re in a contact with Voda, in which case an early termination fee may apply.

  • +2

Can someone suggest a very durable case for iphone 8?

  • +1

Crazy good deal! Kind of wish I hadn't bought my iPhone 8 outright

  • I recently ported to optus on $30 SIM only plan 12 month contract. Will i be able to upgrade to this Iphone plan as its only been 2 weeks with Optus?

    • It’s an upscale so you should be able to, try online chat

      • Was unsuccessful for me.

        • unsuccessful instore, but you can do it online

        • @Tm15: haha, I was unsuccessful online and @chumlee told me that it should work in store. Weird.

I don't understand how this would be possible?

        • @Tm15: Also, if you click on the link above, do you get to see the Samsung deal? I don't :( I just see the Iphone 8 deal.

  • -2

all looks good until I got to check it out online and then it sneaks in a $30/month handset fee for mate 10 pro, totalling $89/month!

    • Go via Live Chat, they'll take care of it for you mate and ensure there's no additional costs snuck in.

Edit: This is what live chat advised me just now while I'm signing up:

      You • 01:48 PM
There's no additional handset repayments on top of the $59 is there? Just in the critical info, it states there may be additional handset repayments that apply and want to confirm before proceeding
      Harper K • 01:49 PM
No in this plan no handset fee included

      • +2

Thanks, got it sorted with a different link.

Only got a temporary confirmation atm, they've got to check credit etc before they ship

      • Live Chat guys told me no such offer exists and they haven't been informed of this. I referred them to this page, but still same result. So I can't get this phone.

I have a SIM only plan with Optus, so would this be the case?

        • +1

That live chat rep needs some retraining.

Firstly, it's advertised on Optus' own webpage.

Direct them to the pdf hosted on their website if they're still confused.

Secondly, I was in the same boat as you mate and had no issue switching to this (had one sim on a 12 month, sim only plan). There was 7 months left on that 12 month commitment, but I was advised there's no penalty/fee for me to switch to this deal.

Try another Live Chat rep, see how you go.

FWIW, I was advised I'd receive the phone in 2-3 business days and that I would receive confirmation via email within 24 hours (yet to receive that).

        • @Baltoski: Yep, agree. I managed to get the offer online. But, I tried to go through Live Chat again and I showed them the link. They were still clueless!!!

        • +1

          @alwayslooking:

Well, I guess in their defense, this deal only went live today. Regardless, that's poor considering multiple live chat reps you dealt with had no idea.

Glad you got the deal in the end though mate.

  • 40gb samsung s8 deal for me if you have a bundle going with home phone and 1 another phone deal.

  • Great deal. Been waiting to upgrade my S7 plan from last year :)

  • +1

I'm waiting for iPhone X offers.
