BAUHN Premium Range Noise Cancelling Headphones with Bluetooth for $79.99 @ ALDI

220

So I picked up these headphones from my local ALDI and was surprised to see they haven't been given a mention on here yet.

They are part of the Saturday the 9th sale and are $79.99. Still a few pairs around my local stores (Central Coast, NSW) so imagine there is still plenty out there Australia wide.

They appear to be a brand new model for this year model number: HE170751

Don't get me wrong these are no QC35's but for the price a very formidable set of cans.

Interestingly there is no information on the ALDI website nor can I find anything searching the model number so here are the specs on the box.

  • Are these better than 1/5th of performance of QC35?

    • I believe they are!

      • Sorry, it's not the right question.
If u say it only needs to be 20% better to deserve 20% of the price of qc35, then you are not asking the right question. It may need to be 80% as good, to worth the 20% price tag.

The same way that a 3 hat restaurant doesn't need to serve a meal 5 times better than a 2 hat to cost 5 times more.
A Ferrari doesn't need to perform 30 times better than Toyota to cost 30 times more.
A business class doesn't need to fly 5 times further.

It's that extra 20% that give them the rights to be 80% more expensive.
It costs more to be the best.

I've been eyeing the Bluedio F2. I'd rather get them.

    • +2

They do seem quite similar! Would be interesting to have a comparison!

    • +2

I have tried the F2. It is certainly good for its price point however it has certain issues that stopped me from wanting it as a daily.

      Good:
      1. Unboxing experience, they have nailed this, the box looks and feels expensive. It is surprisingly above this price point for what the box and material is.
      2. USB C, this is underrated but it uses USB c for charging and this is great
      3. Audio out! not advertised but if you connect to bluetooth and then plug the audio cable in it acts as a bluetooth receiver and outputs sound on the lineout which is a neat little trick
      4. Build quality, uses metal and overall feels good to hold, and they actually look half decent (minus the logo and faith writing on the top)
      5. Noise cancelling is of acceptable range, nothing too fancy. I would rate it the same as the $39.99 Aldi ones (they were on ear, the F2 is over ear which kinda is to its benefit since it filters more noise passively)
      6. Comfort, you can certainly wear them for long sessions if you have small enough ears.

      Bad:
A few of the good points are also on the bad points…
      1. Comfort, if you have slightly bigger ears they can be problematic, as they are not "deep" enough so the inside of the headphone easily touches your ear, also the earcups are not that wide.
      2. Although I appreciate the metal used in the headrest area, they use some of the cheapest feeling plastics on the earcups themselves and it feels like they would easily break.
      3. You cannot charge and listen to it wired at the same time as it uses the same port for charging and audio out
      4. Audio quality, in passive mode the quality is actually very pleasant for this price range, same goes for active/bluetooth. however things take a road south when you turn on noise cancelling, all of a sudden all the bass is gone and you are left mainly treble and mid range. Noice cancelling by it self kinda works.
      5. They are heavy!!!
      6. The bluetooth was buggy at times and it would lag (more visible on youtube/videos)
      7. HIDEOUS "faith" written on the headrest, this is really really weird and when you wear the headphone around your neck you will look like some priest trying to spread faith, not kidding look it up…

Bottom line is, it is a very good affordable bluetooth headset that can be comfortable for certain people. It has a somewhat usable ANC but at the cost of audio quality. A lot of the online reviews are TOO hyped about this product and I cannot help to believe they are paid, and this does not help the product, since if you had the correct expectation for this price point they would actually surprise you but the reviews make you believe they are much better…
Now I haven't tested the new Bauhn ANC headphones (all Aldi's around me sold out on saturday!!!) but if they are anything like the old $39.99 ones they would be extremely good and by looking at them they actually look comfortable. Needless to say the $39.99 Bauhn in my opinion had a MUCH better quality and designed case compared to the $400 Sennheiser PXC-550 so yeah wish I could try these new Bauhn ones.

  • As this product does not appear to be reviewed anywhere or listed on the Bauhn website, could you give some information as to its tonal characteristics (how does the trebble and mids sound, it is bassy, flat or fun sounding) and compare it to other headphones you have experience with.

It's an Aldi special. Don't overread it. Easy return policy if you don't like it or less than expectations.

So these are for my partner however I have tried them out and can give you a bit on insight so far.

I have a big head and ears and therefore these more sit on top of my ears however are still quite comfortable. It is a bit of a stretch to get the ear cups to reach my ears.

The noise cancelling is pretty impressive. Especially for the price. A very noticeable difference with ANC on and off.

I would call the sound bassy however not overpowering. Can still enjoy mids and treble quite well (I'm no audiophile though so take that as you will!)

        • Are you comparing them to any particular headphones (to help baseline)?

        • @bluedez_man: I've actually got QC35ii in the mail and have only tried those for a little bit however they are obviously superior.

I have in the past used a set of Beats Studio 2. I would call the audio extremely similar (without the crazy bass of the BS2)

I also use a set of Kingston Cloud Revolvers and I believe the sound stage of the BAUHN headphones and ANC make the listening experience a little better.

          @adamfury: cool thanks for that

I pwn the bose qc 35 II which i purchasedfrom jb hifi about a month ago. Amazing in every way.
Just saw these Baun nc headphones in Aldi today and purchased them if anything out if curiosity and to use at work(floor sanding polishing), just tried them and they are pretty good fpr 79 bucks.
Still have to see how they go with the machine noise tomorrow and answering calls.
The sound quality is ok, ive just tried hearing same sing on both after a few swaps its night and day. Bose qc35's clarity punch sharp notes bass depth is crazy better. Bauns sound much cheaper but still great for the price. Decent base but lacks the crispness on treble n vocals, lacks the quality depth i guess im used to. A large reason for this is because tgese are iver ear headphones…the bose qcs your ear comfortably fits inside. With the bose i can run jum even shake my head left and right rapidly & they do not move off your ears cupping and providing a totally encapsulated noise cancelling world. The baun sit over the ear unless your ears a the size of a 3 yr old, and ive found they quite easily move off your ears……
Over all worth the price, i will still use them for work but certainly not great quality… bass doesnt mean good quality. Ps worth mentioning they are quite flimsy feeling, time will tell how long they last i guess.

can you disassemble the bauhn and your qc35 and do a side by side comparison for the ozbargain community. We would very much appreciate it.

      • +5

Done!! Screwdriver is out im startingggg now. Lol

    • Thanks for the insight! My QC35II's get delivered this week so I can't wait to try them out! In the meantime picking up the ALDI ones for my partner and trying them out was a bit of fun! Definitely keen to give the QC35's a proper run!

    • Flimsy is right. It doesn’t feel solid.

The plastic does flex even carrying its own weight.

As with anything Aldi, fun part is actually trying to find a store that has them in stock. I tried 4 stores to no avail.

    • If it helps my store had them for 15 minutes before being sold out.

  • +1

If anyone is still trying to find one and is willing to drive up to the Blue Mountains, the Katoomba Aldi still have a couple in their display cabinet.

  • +1

I did manage to pick one up today, local store had them, non on Saturday, perhaps they received them later in the week? In any case, no comparison to the QC35 but not bad either, You get what you pay for.

  • +1

Still quite a few of these available at ALDI Nambour. Reduced to $69

  • Actually $69.99

  • +1

I have waited patiently for these to drop to $49.99. And picked up a pair tonight (about a week too late for on flight… but anyway…). For the money they are well worth it. Honestly don't see the QC35 hype for the money they're asking. I played with one at work for a good hour and the sound quality didn't blow me away. The the end of the day I'm using these on phone with Google Play or Spotify so I guess, I rather the extra $300 in my pocket

    • where did you get it mate?
