I swear it was $2 from woolies few weeks ago,
    regardless time to re-stock!

    • +1

Yes. About 4 weeks ago as I stocked up

      • +1

And you didn't post it here for us?

        • -2

          Someone else did I'm sure

@hell0: Wow OzBargain really feeling the love

          @Savas:
lol, the negs are out in force.

    • It wasn't recorded in Price Hipster?

"Limit 6 per customer", challenge accepted.

    • +2

      Challenge Failed: No +Vote

    • Pfft, just do self checkout and hope the staff have no idea.

      • can’t imagine the software coders at coles checking how many cans people buy and cutting off discount after 6 cans on the checkout.

        • Would be very simple to program.

    • +2

      *brings fake mustaches and glasses

      • Round 1: glasses
        Round 2: mustache
        Round 3: both

        Thank you

Tightarse, you should release your own canned meat.

Tightarse Tempters, juicy and tender arse cheeks in natural brine.

    • +1

Dont give up your day job.

  • +2

How does the limit work, using self checkout does it only discount 6?

    • +3

buy 6. go back and get another 6. repeat…

    • +11

I'm going to hire a group of daigou.

    • +23

An alarm is raised with an automated message over the store speakers and the exits are locked to prevent an escape.

    • +1

The remaining cans of tuna randomly open and tip their contents all over you.

Seriously - if you are that worried, have 2 self serves going* and scan 6 in each one.
*Don't be a dick though and take up all the self serves if a line is forming though :D

      • +1

or one self serve and pay for each 6 as finalised ….. but seriously their software isn’t that smart …. i know at woollies if it’s a multi buy deal ….. extras beyond the required amount are also discounted.

        • That's why I said

Seriously, if you are that worried…

The only person likely to pick up on it is the one supervising the self serves and they quite frankly couldn't care less :)

    • Serious answer - it's only user-enforced. The Cashier would not know the limit if they didn't read the catalogue or were not told by others.

Also, it's not coded in their registers to bring up any alerts.

  • Doesnt costco always have this really cheap?

    • +1

      Short answer nope.

      • Long answer not in a very long time?

        • Medium answer, probably not.

        • @Scab: it is cheap ($19.99 for 12x95g), however not sure if it's always stocked

    • Well not on offer in Costco, but they're $19.99 for 12x95g cans.
Cheapest I could find was John West 6x425g for $21.79

  • Sweet, I just used my last can that I bought 8 months ago. Right on time!

  • +4

"the best canned tuna on the market"

    Agreed.

  • +3

Can you explain why are they the best canned tuna?

I've been buying the Coles branded ones for 90c per can. Corn and Mayo my fav at the moment.

    • +1

      Different type of tuna

  • +1

Tried both Sirena and Aldi canned tuna. Can't tell the difference.

    • Agree. The also pole line caught is the same as far as I can tell.

      • +1

pole line caught is the same

Pole caught has nothing to do with taste, it's for sustainability and no by-catch.

    • Aldi is better, less salty, softer texture and at $1.86 the only reason I go there.

      • And about a third of the price if you buy the big tins.

    • Tried ALDI and although it's close I still think Sirena is nicer.

  • +1

This is my favourite day of the year!! I have a whole shelf dedicated to Sirenna Tuna, personally, I love the odd chunk of dolphin in my Tuna, but this stuff is pole caught so no Flipper in these.. . bummer

    • dolphins are high in omega 3 so chunks of dolphin are a bonus …..

    • +5

There might be the occasional bit of dolphin in there, but I'm sure it's not done on porpoise…

  • +1

Its just superior quality in pretty much every way. Im a tuna nut!. . this is the best stuff

    • +1

Please explain? It's mostly caught and packaged in Indonesia, has never been made in Italy or made to a Italian recipe and has a history of unsustainable fishing. How is it superior? I too am a tuna nut - just don't trust Indonesian trawlers.

      • Completely agree, it is captialising on the name to completely fool the masses. Actually you will probably find that most tuna products sold in the major retailers (including Aldi) are mostly fished from either Indonesia, Vietnam or Thialand and dare I say it, China.

If consumers really knew what they were buying there would be outcry.

I mostly stick to the delicatessens to pick bulk packs of tuna fully imported from Italy. The ones with olive oil actually taste better with the right amount of salt and are great on their own.

  • +3

Sirena is awesome, but that 'premium' Aldi one is almost identical. At the same price I'd go Sirena though.

    • But it's not the same price? Isn't Aldi's like 16c cheaper :P

  • -1

This makes me think of Arnie in Kindergarten Cop "It's not TUNA!"

  • -2

tbh john west, sirena, coles, woolworths and aldi brands taste almost the same and would definitely not say sirena is superior to others. Wouldn't be surprised if they are all from the same factory anyway. Nice ones are callipo and rio mare. Both hard to get and way too expensive unfortunately …

    • +5

Sirena is definitely not superior. But too many brainwashed "it's italian" foodies somehow fell for it. Of the brands you list I'd try Safcol. One of the most sustainably caught brands in Australia.

      • +1

Agree. Don't get this craze over this brand. Read the label people.

        • +1

some are skip jack and some are yellow fin tuna, skip jack being the cheaper …. in the tiny cans one brand used to use bluefin …. probabaly trimmings as bluefin is usually reserved for sushi and sashimi.

        • +1

          Read the label people.

You obviously don't, a lot of the other brands don't use yellowfin like Sirena.

Skipjack is cheaper and doesn't have the same flavour.

      • +2

Safcol is skipjack tuna, not the same flavour unless you don't have taste buds.

    • I get my Callipo and Rio Mare from the Italian Deli. These are fished locally and exported internationally from Italy.

  • -5

John West uses the best and leaves the rest for Sirena.
John West 95gm variety cans are $1 each this week at Coles, so 2x 95g is 5gms more than Sirena 185gm cans for $2.

I like to mix a Sweet Chili Tuna with a Mango Tuna in my weekly Tuna Pasta Bake.

  • +3

What’s everyone’s favourite flavours. I love Chilli and Puttanesca

    • +8

      Hands down Chilli :)

      • Hands up Tightarse.

    • +2

      Chilli for sure

  • If you lover very hot and spicy tuna, try Ayam brand tuna from Oriental shop

    • If you lover very hot and spicy tuna

A lover who smells like spicy fish?

  • I've just been buying the $2 Coles Yellowfin Tuna chunks. Can't tell the difference between it and Sirena

    • I think both contain a certain amount of bycatch like Dolphins etc. So both are equally winners.

      • Actually it's pole and line caught. Not sure if there is still dolphin bycatch in this case.

  • Just went to Coles but these were not yet on special?? Is it location based?

    • Was from Wednesday 20th where I am in NSW

  • I think I remember comparing these to other labels and the Sirena cans had higher actual tuna content.

  • +1

With this and $2.70 Connoisseur Ice-Cream, it's time to clear out the pantry and freezer!

  • +1

Went in to my local Coles yesterday and bought 50 cans.

I eat 2-3 a week so about 6 months worth.

    Thanks, Tightarse.

    • Amateur! I got 7 cases, 252 cans

      • Did you walk around with a case on your shoulder like a badarse?

        • The full trolley certainly turned a few heads. Lucky my kids are too young to get embarrassed by such things

        • @Bennyo: But it says "limit 6 per customer"….
