  • Why are they 3.1 if they're SSD?

    • +1

      T5 does USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps). T3 does USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps).

      • Oh, silly me, I got it mixed up with the size 3.5… I assume they are 2.5 or smaller in size?

        • Smaller, better, stronger, faster.

        • m.2 2280 internally.

From the anandtech review posted by futaris, it looks like they're actually m-sata drives on a usb to m-sata adapter.

Overall they're a little thicker than a bare 2.5" drive, but smaller in the other two dimensions.

    • Sporting a Type-C USB port, these drives peak out at 540MB/s courtesy of the USB 3.1 Gen. 2 standard.

      • +1

Technically usb3.1 gen 2 standard supports 10gbps which equates to around 1.25gb/s.

USB3.0 was the one which had around 540mb/s.

these drives peak out at 540MB/s, the interface is technically capable of more.

        • +1

@malouphix: well its more the courtesy of these drives limitation not the USB3.1 Gen 2 standard.

been using one of these for a while,

tiny size & super fast speeds with 3.1 gen 2 on my MBP via type c

  • Pity not nvme drives.

  • Doh, I had the 500GB in my cart at USD$150, but now its gone up to USD$169.99 :(

    • +1

Back down to $150 USD, if you still want to grab one.

      • Thanks for the heads up!!! Grabbing one now :D

    Longer Update:

The savings are based on the previous post by Smiles and the change in USD to AUD exchange rate.

FYI: I just ordered the 500GB and 2 other items. And the total shipping with "AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping" was 10.55 USD or 13.52 AUD.
