  • Aren't they like $2.50 at woolworths?

  • +4

are these any good? last year the aldi ones were tiny and 80% pip. coles on elizabeth street (melb) has 3 for $5 and looks fairly large. i might pick some up this afternoon on the way home.

    • +18

All the mango 4 packs I've seen at Aldi have been tiny… Go to a real fruit shop for a deal

      • +2

Agreed. I bought the 4 pack last time and were small and tasteless.

      • Spot on.

The sizes of these mangoes is quite tiny.

        Not worth it.

        • Yup tiny n soft

    • +2

Larger isn't better, at least that's what I've found with KP mangoes.

      • They are if they're priced per unit and not per KG.

I prefer mid sized mangoes the best, which is about the max size a KP mango gets.

  • How about aldi broadway?

    • they're there but not labeled properly. Still a tray or so left.
Just don't get confused with the calypso 4 pack one.

I'm for Mango Equality. Kensington Pride!

    • +11

Are you going to the Mango Gras?

  • -3

yeah for for for for a reason

    • Because of the rainman?

      • +1

        Depends, any redheads?

        • I was going going going for Dustin Hoffman, but Mr Rain man is pleasant reason enough lol

  • Yeah def small ones in this deal, Big Watermelon in VIC have boxes of these for $8 at the moment.

  • the aldi mangoes are the size of avocados

    yeh nah

    • +1

Definitely yeh nah. In this case size does matter

      • +1

With fruit the size doesn't matter, it's how you juice it.

        • +2

You juice mangoes? I hope you get arrested for that crime.

        • @Munki: Juiced mangoes are a tradition in India!

        • +1

@paaj: are you thinking of mango lassi? that's not juice bro

  • A large mango normally costs close to $4 a piece. 4 small ones with large stones is still more mango for the same price, it's just more work to get to it.

  • +1

I still remember the day when you could get a box of large mangoes for $10

Wasn't all that long ago either.

    • They still have $10 a box if you know where to look….like Harris Farms has some ATM…

      • Which HF?

        • Definitely seen them at Broadway and Willoughby before (tho granted, they were the Honey Golds) - still quite nice when i tried them.
I've also seen other fruit shops (and some pop up vans on the side of the road) have trays of mangoes for $10.

    • +2

      I 'member

    • +1

my local fruit markets have trays of large mangoes approx 14 - 15 in a box for $9.90

    • Like, last Saturday.

  • Not worth it from what I saw. Small and they did not look very nice. I'll pay $2.50 for a bigger, nicer mango any day.

  • OH NO WAY, bought 2 for $4 from Woolies. Can I return them by blaming they don't look gorgeous?

    • +3

They were gorgeous enough for you to purchase them in the first place, so obviously you accepted their quality at time of purchase.

They will probably let you return them, but that's not a nice thing to do. Don't be that guy.

  • Just a heads up: my local Coles yesterday was selling trays / boxes of 13 mangoes for $5. They were the smaller mangoes, but I suspect similar in size to this Aldi deal.

So I would check other stores to see if they have bigger and better mangoes or better prices.

It's been a great year for mangoes!!

    • +1

In sydney , flemington you may get 10 to 15 KGS in $5 on saturday

      • 15kg of mangoes for $5?

        • yupe…around 2 pm, you may be lucky to get 8 to 10 kgs in $1 or $2..

        • @vr4indian:

15kg would be over 40 mangoes.

That would be about 12c a mango.

        • @vr4indian: Are they going off? i.e. you touch them and they are soft, and have dark bruises?

        • @lostn: its give and take…..

        • 😅

  • -8

Trays of mangoes are way cheaper than this

    • +5

So post it. Not everyone wants or needs a tray.

  • +1

If you live in Melbourne, go to Queen Vic markets. Large boxes starting at $10 inc kensington pride (and other varieties).

  • +5

Seriously to everyone hating on the small 4 packs.

Not everyone can eat a tray, and they are cheap as a tray, because they are almost done. If you buy a tray for $10 and waste half because they don't get eaten, well thats worse, you lose $5.

    • +1

Freeze them. Easier to cut and eat. Less mess.

Used to do that in NQ during 1960s when they were free off the trees at Airlie Beach :)

    • I bought 3 trays from HF last week. And I finished those 3 trays without wasting anything.

    • The ones were buying aren't "almost done". But obviously i would expect that what you said is right at more places than not

  • +2

Went to have a look just now, the mangos are tiny…not really worth it

    • +3

      Thanks. Saves me the trouble.

I hate shopping there. The queues are long and they don't do express lanes for people only buying a few items. So you have to wait in line forever just to buy 2 items.

  • Since the mangos are so tiny, why do we have so many upvotes for this deal, I don't understand…..anyone can explain?

    • +1

Cuz it's cool to be one of the crew

      I don't get it either

  • Please make sure you bring a Microscope if you are shopping for ALDI mangoes…
