Received Bill from Ecollect for Late Fee on 15 Year Old Video Rental

I received a bill from ecollect stating now that a video store which closed down are pursuing outstanding debts and I have 14 days to pay $xx dollars before they add another $xx fee etc. I used to have a card with this video store chain 15yrs ago and have haven't rented anything in just as long. The bill went to my old address (my parents still own that property) which I haven't lived in 12yrs+. The bill states a few days overdue movies from 2 years ago totalling a small amount plus ecollects fee. Honestly its a small amount but I don't want to give in since it's a moral thing. What do?

ed it also states the video store is not required to notify me on an outstanding debt..really?

from 2 years ago totalling a small amount plus ecollects fee

and it changes from 7 to 2 as I was replying.

how was the debt from 2 years ago if you haven't used the service for 15 years?

Sorry my bad, I did update it before anyone replied.

TBH I have no idea, the bill was sent to an address 3 suburbs away from where the store was anyway.

I'm guessing the answer is because…

I used to have a card with this video store… and the bill went to my old address

You missed the point, badly. Ignoring the fact I haven't lived there in 12 years why would I go to a store 3 suburbs away.

Sounds like a scam. Ask for proof of debt including what film was involved and the dates.

Don't ask for anything, don't give them any information, and ignore it.

  • Yeah, how can they threaten to charge more when they have no idea if I actually received the bill?? I have zero problems paying if I knew if I owed the money.

Lol are video shops still around?

    • Edit: Nevermind

Let them bluff about taking the matter to Court, where they must prove a debt to recover a debt.

Got a call from some financial company, Lion financial, claiming I owe $200. Wouldn't elaborate how the debt was incurred and kept asking me to verify name and DOB, etc. Was being nice and told them to send me an official letter. But they kept calling to a point where I told them to f*(k off. Haven't got any call since.

  • Haha the ol video store letter. Just ignore

Did you or did not hire these items? If you did then the moral thing to do is that you settle your debt no matter how small it is.

Put the letter back in the envelope, write ha ha ha on it and RTS - post it and forget it.
