Fluid Momentum Road Bike $249 @ Anaconda Bayswater VIC

800

Just bought my first road bike and didn't want to spend much and found this bike on clearance for $249 in the Bayswater Anaconda Store.
The ticket price in store said it was previously $1099 and the website still has it at $499 on clearance.
I'm sure there are way better bikes out there but this was a good fit for me wanting to start riding and see if I enjoy it.
Cheers.

    $249 or $299?

    • +1

It was $249. Typo in the first post :)

      • +1

Might want to change the title using edit button above username

        • Haha, Thanks. Done

  • I have a photo of it in store and my receipt but am unsure how to post pics which I've seen people do before (long time viewer but never signed up).

    • +1

You could upload it to imgur if that makes it easier.

  • +3

I would not normally consider Anaconda for good deals on bikes,
but the specs look like bargain material.
Claris groupset for $249! "Entry" level Shimano, but still a proper road-bike set.

Be careful though as specs do not match the picture 2 vs 3 speed crankset, so I wonder what else is wrong.

  • +1

Good bike for the price. Claris is a decent groupset for a beginner. Enjoy it!

  • +1

Can you comment anything on the size? I'm a 6'2 guy so thinking the 54 cm might be too small. Also, did you see any other sizes apart from 52 and 54 cm there, or were these the only ones there?

    • +3

Yeah, I got the 54cm one being only 175cm tall and found it to be a pretty got fit. There was one size bigger (I think it was 57cm but I can't remember for sure) the Bayswater VIC store didn't have any in left.

      • +1

Ah I see thanks. Was there a decent amount of stock left when you got your bike?

        • +1

At least 8-10 when I was there around 5:30pm

    • +2

Too small mate. I am 6’4 and bought myself 54cm…that was a struggle… i now ride 60cm and it is a perfect fit… for you aprox 58cm is a good size

  • +3

I highly doubt that anyone ever bought this for over a grand!

    • +2

I can definitely confirm I would not have paid $1000 for this bike either πŸ˜‚

      • +10

Me too, because I don't have $1000 to spend on a bike.

    • +1

Never. Not even $500. Not even $400. I'd think very hard at $300.

      • Ozbargain logic ^ I will not pay $400 for a bike nekminute do you take amex for that $1,000 pram ?

        • LOL. Yes! Of course.

  • +1

    Looks great. Thanks OP.

    • he has uploaded his receipt which shows he got a further 50% off buying it at 249

      Read the post…

Anaconda is just as bad as BCF or even Repco, most things are overpriced and they sell their own low quality house brands for way too much.

    • +5

It's called leveraging off the good work from other companies. My bet is that they hope people presume their products are good quality just because they sell other stuff that is.

      • +6

I thought that logic was a stretch but I found this in a fluid bike review someone wrote:

Anything I have ever purchased from Anaconda has been of the highest quality, be it camping gear, backpacks, cloths (North Face) etc , so I have every belief I have bought a good bike.

Seems you're right! Getting that North Face cred for a fluid bike…

    • Yep, never buy from anaconda unless stuff is on sale.

Weight: 14 kg - that's big w mountain bike territory.

    • +4

Think of it as a good handicap bike to train with.

      • +18

My gut was enough handicap πŸ˜‚

        • +1

Me too. It's like I'm now carrying 10 extra bottles of milk these days.

        • +2

Just wrap it in Lycra and no one will notice it.

    • +3

      14kg is heavy.

I recently bought a 2nd hand Trek hybrid for $100 on Gumtree that's lighter than this.

      • +3

wait till you try to ride an obike …. steel frame they are ultra heavy …..not sure how strong people are to be able to haul them up trees for display ……..

        • +5

          U lift bro? ;)

    • Was also going to say that it looks like this bike comes with pedals which are probably 5kgs on their own anyway ;)

  • Are the mountain bikes also at $249?

  • This is a good find price for a brand new road bike.

  • Great price at $249. About right at $499. If that sticker says $1099, that's hilarious. Got to admire Anaconda's lack of shame!!

    • +5

Bunch of snakes if you ask me :)

    • Got to admire Anaconda's lack of shame!!

Even better, they stole the whole business model from Kathmandu (who might have stolen it from some American chain?)

  • What is Shimano Claris like?

    • It is good. The cheapest "road bike" groupset from shimano.
Has the same style of shifters as modern racing bikes.

  • Was anyone able to get anaconda price match in NSW? Checked one of the stores its marked 499$

    • Also keen to know this- will stores match other store? I'm also in NSW

      • +1

Price matched at Logan (QLD). Although I'm beginning to question whether it is really a bargain at all (haven't unboxed mine yet). It is a Quantum not a Momentum, and $499 may be its normal price.

        • Of coarse, at $499 it would be overpriced when you consider you can get a Polygon Strattos S2 with carbon forks, internal cabling & it weighs a lot less (10.72kg) for $599 shipped

        • +1

          @WatchNerd:

          Carbon Alloy forks.

          But not a bad buy.

        • @joshm12 i meant price match for 249$

        • @nikp: I understand - they did that (they forgot and put it through at $250 but I didn't complain).

I was saying that this is really only ever a $500 bike not a $1k bike, and at Anaconda pricing that means $250 isn't really a bargain.

Lift for fitness and ride for commuting ;P

I would steer well clear of fluid bikes. My vector is atrocious. Terrible bearings that give rise to wobble at the axis. Repacking might solve that but no thanks. Not spending $100 to do that.

Lowest of the low shimano range derailleurs and shifters. Terrible to ride even with services.

  • +14

Update: rode it today (12ks). Enjoyed it. Sill fat.

  • Wouldn't honour in SA

  • Wouldn't honour, West Gosford NSW. Company policy states they cannot match to other Anaconda stores

  • So my friend who purchased this decided to weigh it. The medium size (with pedals) is around 10.9kg
