Cheapest Pay As You Go Prepaid Mobile Plan

Can someone suggest the best pay as you go prepaid plan? Alternatively, open to take suggestions for the cheapest monthly prepaid plan as well. There's no specific data requirement.

Usage: Around 200 mins local calls a month, not much data usage (not necessary to have data).

  • What's your usage? Without that there's no starting point. Your ongoing cost could be zero if you don't make any calls, then you only have to pay for a 365 day AYG SIM.

Usage is about 200 local mins a month and almost no data. This is for a family member.

  • You also need to state if keeping the number is important. With SIM hopping there are a lot of starter deals. These days there are many plans with unlimited local calls to standard numbers as data is king.

  • Yes, keeping the number is important for at least a year. I would also not mind a 1 yr deal so that I don't have to bother about renewal every month. Kogan deal looks ok but it's a bit expensive for the usage.

  • Try Southern Phone $200 per month in local and national calls and 500mg or data. There is an exit fee($8) and you can choose your provider. I have no experience with them. They do have an Australian call centre.

    • Sorry. Should have said the charge is $7 per month.

  • What do you have at the moment that it needs to be better than?

    • I have none at the moment. I need to buy one for a relative.

  • Like your user name virhlpool ( whirlpool :-) ) +1 for that. Kogan came with some cheapest annual plan which might up ending cheaper for your relative…was on OB just before couple of weeks…

Aldi PAYG is a pretty respectable plan, operating on a limited telstra network

However, when you do the maths at 200 local minutes a month most payg plans will become too expensive (assuming the 200 mins are used to make the calls and not receive them) It may be cheaper if you work around that fact and have people call them instead

Kogan is probably the best price per month

Woolworths is another option if you don't want to be locked in for a year at $13.50 per month

Ovo was really good for us. Optus network. $10 per month for 1GB, 200$ calling, unlimited text.

I had to change to a telstra service for work; telstra is a rip off (obviously). After looking further many months later, Woolworths mobile offer the best deals. 10% off when you are an everyday rewards member.

  • Decided to go with Aldi 'Pay as You Go' for now to gauge the usage and if usage is more, I might change to one of the options suggested above.
