I assume it works in QLD too as I browsing for a gym in north side of Brisbane, they had the same deal.

Plus they tried to sell me the weekly membership for $24 per week … I mentionned I will look at Goodlife carseldine and give them an answer later. The membership dropped to $17 weekly and no admin fee.

Good luck and don't get fat during the holidays (for those like me, try not to get too fat if you already fat)

They might have changed their ways since, but last time I had a Fitness First membership (several years ago) they wouldn't let me cancel my membership unless I had an in-person appointment, during office hours, at the original gym i signed up at, which happened to be out in the suburbs no where near to where I worked. This was well after my 12 month lock-in was over.

Despite many phone calls and written requests I ended up having to get my bank to block the direct debit. Any company that goes to such extremes to make it difficult for you to leave shouldn't be dealt with. There are so many better options around now.

I agree. I've had similar experiences trying to cancel membership. Very poor company.

I cancelled fine at a branch I never visited before here in Vic. I prefer to call 'em Finance First. Wonder if they are any cheaper or more expensive these days.

      I had the same problem.

Ended up phoning there customer service and they canceled it for me.

Later the manager of the gym I signed at called me telling me how she has to see me and customer service shouldn't have done that. wtf?

+1 to this experience. Was a member for a few years and then became a nightmare to cancel. This was almost 10 years ago though, so maybe things have changed a bit since then.

    • Had the same issue at Sandringham FF. Had to pay ANZ $15.00 to block them taking fees out.
These guys have given the fitness industry a bad name. I would recommend you look for a Council run facility that is run as a service. Any profits generally go into better facilities and development rather than in Howard Marks pocket

  • Not really a deal. They have this regularly. So you might get first month free but they still charge you a registration fee and a card fee.

  • So uh… a maximum of three weeks out of 52 (at least) free? That's barely 6% off. Given you still have to pay a joining fee, be on a contract, and, as others have mentioned, they don't make it easy for you to cancel…. This gets a huge red cross from me.
