    • +3

      Meaningless concept.

  • Thanks OP

  • OP perhaps amend title to Data Recorder not Date.

Does this have a capacitor? If not, say goodbye to the dashcam when the weather reaches over 30 degrees

    • I've been using one of these for > a year now. It has withstood 43 C days and performs quite well.

      • What's the video quality like?

        • +1

It was reasonable at first, tho the night time clips weren't anything to write home about. It is flaring a bit now as I have been leaving it out there over winter as it is now my rear camera, and the lens [as you may guess] is plastic.
It still beats the abomination that Adli was selling out for $40 some time ago tho…

I call bull on that, I've bought one of these no name cheap as brand, cactus within a few months, plastic melted and warped around the SD card.

        • There are different experiences, then there is trolling. I'm wondering whether being called a liar by some random anonymous non-entity should spoil my day.
I took mine inside to review the video. I'd like to know how your sdcard would cope in such heat, let alone your unit in such temperatures.
Then again, I had once made the mistake of using a pair of plastic bookshelf speakers as a temporary measure in an Adelaide summer. If you grow up, you may have more such experiences to learn from.

    • If a dashcam says it has "motion detection", i.e. the ability to wake up and record for a while when your car is parked and something hits your car, then it almost certainly isn't a capacitor model. Capacitors only store enough power for a few seconds of operation, which is only enough time for them to shut down.

This model says "motion detection" on one of the photos, so it can't be a capacitor model.

Also, capacitor is a big feature. If a dashcam doesn't mention it, then it doesn't have a capacitor.

      • And it certainly would cost $12
        Lol

      • +1

Also the "motion detection" takes time to wake up. Any of the clips I have had are blank or of somebody walking away from ~ 10 meters…

  • Chibot whats the deal, is it capacitor or not. The million dollar question..

    • +4

I found an unboxing video on youtube, the box says "3.7V 300mAh Polymer Li-ion battery". So not a capacitor model.

      • thanx for your help Russ

The unboxing video also has a good review:

          • night video looks blurry
          • in daytime, can read number plates up to about 1 car length in front of you, but doesn't work for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.
          • about 1-second gap between recordings

Thanks got one for ~$9aud using some points.

  • Picked one up for 8.30 Now the long wait

    • Is this mob tardy in despatching orders? I'm thinking of getting one to use over Christmas period. What are chances of receiving before then?

Edit— just read they despatch during Christmas, so too late for me.

  • I live in Tas and this should not be a problem lol

    • May I ask why it's not a problem?

I just visited Hobart and the roads are pretty narrow with large cars with Kamikaze drivers often coming the other way.

There are plenty of dash cams <$12, where is the deal here?

  • thanks, ordered one and used some points too.

    nice one!

my rear view dashcam seems to have fried… need a new dashcam for the rear of my car.

    • Can this be use as Car Monitor or mounted mirror for reverse camera output display?

      • No this one can't.

  • I received my camera today. It is VERY POOR QUALITY!
Even if i set it to record 1080p it only records in 720p (i.e. 1280x720) as per checking the file properties in Windows explorer.

Going to try and get a refund

    • Mine is similar - it looks exactly the same as the one which has been giving me fairly clear 720p video for over a year now, but is a low-res washed out piece of junk. However the mount on the older finally gave up the ghost 2 days after I got it, and the power cord reaches and fits the hardly better Onix I have as the rear window cam in case of a rear shunt so it wasn't a total loss.
A refund is a reasonable request, given that is is not as described…
