Swapping a Phone. How Can I Check Theirs Is Legit?

Hi guys,

I just put a phone for sale on Facebook market and someone has been in touch asking if I’d swap it for their iPhone. I’ve heard of plenty of horror stories and was wondering what is the best way to find out that their phone is legal - not stolen or blocked?

Is there any way I can check the IMEI or serial number? Or are there other ways to ensure I don’t get ripped off?

It's really best not to buy phones 2nd hand if you do not know the seller personally.
The oldest trick in the book is the phone is legit, they are the original owners.
They sell to you for $x. They go to the phone provider in store and report it stolen. Claim insurance and get a new replacement phone. Old phone IMEI gets flagged as stolen.
Bottom line for you: Congratulation you are now in possession of a stolen phone.
Bottom line for scammer: $x and new replacement phone.

    • Yes, you’re absolutely correct. There are some unscrupulous swines about but you pay your money and you take your chances.

      Hopefully they’re not all bad.

Also be wary of fakes when dealing with iphones make sure you start them up and open App Store to check
