Window Fan in Australia?

Bit of an odd question, but came across these style of fans in the US that insert into windows and act as intake / outake to cool the room & improve ventilation:

Doesn't seem to be a thing in Australia though. Has anyone come across anything similar?

  • ventilation/exhaust fan

    • Most of them are ceiling/bathroom fans though, not quite the same. Also usually thicker / bulkier which defeats the purpose.

I made some using bathroom exhaust fans.

Yeah, they're a bit thicker than I'd like, may 100mm or so.

Couldn't find any suitable box fans, was going to build similar to the Amazon link but axial fans (eg https://www.jaycar.com.au/electromechanical-components/fans-…) get a bit expensive so I got a few exhaust fans cheap ($10? Usually only $20 anyway) and made up a simple box for them.

        They work fine.

    Maybe two box fans!?

    • I tried that a couple of years ago, the only ones I could find weren't very 'boxy'. Too many curves so wouldn't fit in the windows.

  • yeah doesn't seem to be a thing here. More for climates that don't really need 'mechanical cooling' summer.

    • Lived in southern California as an expat for 2 years where aircon was not optional, even winter had hot weeks, window fans were still common there. House came with one there and I saw them at their orange Bunnings clone of a hardware chain for around $25usd. Was brilliant on those drier 24-28c days; could reverse the fan direction too. Would have no worries fitting one in my current house just by taking out two of the louvres. Think their absence here along with the also useful true box fan is due to them being 110v and general ignorance.

  • I'd buy a tower fan, and dismantle the base.

Necro reply, but having solved this issue myself thought I should share what i went through to get a window fan in Australia. hah!

3 decent 120mm computer fans, decent but not expensive ones. $15 all in
    a LED power supply $10
    a mains lead $2
    and a 3x3pin computer fan splitter. $2
An appropriately sized rectangular bloc of polyethylene packing foam of 5cm width, $5
electronic insulation, tape and wrap. $5
    $38aud all in.

Sorry if it is a bit of a non answer, I hope to help anyone who has the technical ability as it did work for me. Not a patch on the one I had while living in California, but better than the fat useless box fans we have here.

Necroing again - I happened to come across this product category last night.

Does anyone know of such a product in Australia? Otherwise, I may end up going the DIY route.
