Advice on Purchasing a 65-75 Inch TV

So I've been left behind maybe 10 years in tv tech and have no clue what to get.

My budget is around $2500. My use is gaming (pc and console) and also watching movies.

I'm leaning towards 75 inch as my wife thinks size does indeed count and I've also got a large lounge room with wall space to spare.

So what model is the best value for around that price? I don't mind waiting if there is a particular model just out of my price range that has a history of going on sale.

Thanks y'all.

TLDR:

I need a tv for gaming and movies. 75inch is best, around $2500 is the budget will wait for a sale.

I got a Hisense 75" around April this year for ~$2500. Have a large lounge room as well where the couch and TV are on opposite ends. Looks great and the Netflix feature is integrated really well 😀

    Get a projector

    • I was thinking about a projector but my living room is really bright (unfortunately?).

Between a 65-75", size really doesn't matter, its how you configure the picture settings (familiar drool…😉)

Get an OLED if possible, you'll never look at another TV again…

That's what all the small guys say 😜

I'll check out OLED. Hisense ULED is similar tech right?

No, go LG if possible. Maybe outside your budget… Sony or Panasonic OLED as plan b.

        • Any particular models you recommend that I can check out?

I saw the LG B series on clearance during boxing day sales, unsure if they are now. They might actually be within your budget.

I'm personally eying a LG C series once my ol' faithful plasma dies…

So your wife thinks size counts? Funny how they can say that when it suits them! lol

OLED Rulz, no question. Problem is you are not going to get one that size in that budget. Watching a 4k HDR letterbox movie in a dark room with an edge lit LCD LED TV (which is 99% of them) is simply unacceptable. The light bleed and blooming in most of them is a deal breaker. It's just a reality with that technology I'm afraid… hence OLED's Rule. Good luck young man!

    You married well.

Seriously though, get the biggest screen you can afford with the features you desire.

Check input lag if you're gaming, and things like the OS and responsiveness.

You should be able to pick up a lower end 75" LG or Samsung for around that price.

  • I'm currently leaning towards the Hisense N7 75" 4K UHD HDR Smart ULED LCD TV and waiting for the next sale on that unit.

100hz refresh rate should be ok for input lag right?

    • Amateur question, I’ll be upgrading a Samsung 42” plasma…so well out of the loop. But I’m looking for a rig that can support Foxtel now, without purchasing the Foxtel box. Would this support that?

My folks bought this TCL 75" from Costco.

Can't remember the price, but it must have been good as my stepfather is a bit of a tightarse.

Good picture (haven't seen any 4k stuff on it yet), upscales 1080p and TV stuff pretty well. Menus and smart TV functions work responsively enough for my liking.
