Gaming PC ~$2500

Time to upgrade my PC!

If anyone has any deals they've seen please let me know.

I've decided to buy the parts individually and install as it seems the best way to get value.

Main purpose will be gaming and VR for the next few years.

SSD $140
M.2 $280
CPU $380

Total: $800

Still remaining to get:

  • CPU Cooler - I'd like an AIO liquid with 120/140mm fan (depending on case)
  • GPU - at least a 1080, no SLI
  • MOBO - Tomahawk? must have M.2 slot
  • Case similar to S340, mid tower and easy to build with excellent cable management options for novice
  • RAM - 16gb as high speed as possible

*Edited the price from $2k

  • This site has good builds as ref. pcpartpicker.com

Also go for I7-8700k as Performance is better.

  • You're going to need to compromise somewhere along the way. Using the cheapest components from PCCG this weighs in at $2144 https://www.pccasegear.com/sc/tBa

  • Thank you both, I'm torn between choosing all the parts via waiting for deals or just paying extra to buy prebuilt via PC Meal / PC Byte on ebay. I built my mid-range current mini-ITX and it was a nightmare for cable management (CM130 & full size PSU) and I'm too worried about messing up this high-end(ish) build. I might just source everything pay a mate to put it all together if nothing catches my eye.

    • +1

hey sure you cant put it together yourself? Check out any of Linus Tech Tips' "Build guide" videos on youtube to get a pretty good step by step video.

      • It's just the cable management and CPU cooler I have trouble with but I'll have a look at those videos and decide. This is what I have so far: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Lcx2qk

        Ryzen was $380
        M2 was $280
        SSD was $140

    • You just missed out on 20% off pc bytes just a couple of days ago.
I think the 10% off is still active…

      Here's a decent price for a blower: (if ebay 10% punch code is still active): 729 * .9 = 656.1
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GTX1080-8GB-Turbo-PCIe-…

For non-blowers, looks as if ebay is more expensive at the moment since the 20% off is gone.

This is a variant of a similar one I have been building for streamers/ gamers lately. Only difference is they go for the K variety of the cpu and normally a 1080 ti. With sales on and discounts that can be found on eBay you should get it for well under 2500. Building is fairly simple to do on your own YouTube is your friend. If you have trouble you might be able to find some one where you live that is willing to help out. I’m in Brisbane and if I can find a moment when away from work I’d be willing to help out if your close.
