Chinese to Australia power adapter

Hi,

So I bought a few xaiomi smart home things recently, one being the AC controller that also acts as a gateway.

The power plug looks almost identical to the Australian socket, but is slightly larger. I can't seem to find any adapters that will suit.

Anyone know where to get Chinese to Australian power adapters that suit xaiomi products?

Thanks!

  • Larger? Do you mean the earth pin is slightly longer?

Most of my Xiaomi stuff (using the Aussie shaped plugs) work fine without the use of adapter.

    • All the pins seem to be slightly larger. Its an aussie shaped plug but bigger

  • Get this device.

Or use a $4 power strip with spaced out sockets. I use one for the gateway device point #1, point #3 has the camera powers supply. Other points are blank for now.

  • i use this one why not get a xiaomi power pack for your xiaomi products
    https://www.gearbest.com/cables-connectors/pp_169368.html

    • Thanks but I dont think that will help in this situation

      • i got one because my mrs is chinese so she can plug her stuff in at home

  • What did you buy? The only thing that is slightly larger on the pins is the AC remote adapter as its 15amp and all the pins are larger (unlike AUS that just the earth is larger)

    • I bought the AC controller, which also acts as a base station for the other Xiaomi stuff: https://www.zapals.com/xiaomi-mijia-air-conditioning-remote-…

Yes all the pins seem to be larger… not just the earth.

      • Yeah that product is the China 16AMP plug, the China version has ALL pins larger vs the AU 15AMP plug that is only the earth larger.

Sadly not a lot of choices for you, file all the pins down and make sure you don't have more than 10amp plugged into it, or import a china 16AMP plug and install that instead ;)

      • You can get a 16A/10A adapter off ebay, but the problem is that a reputable manufacturer (even a Chinese one) will never make such a product because it does not make sense in term of safety.
If you have the skill and want a safer solution, you should buy a 16A extension lead, the shortest single slot will do. Get a good brand off ebay.
Then you need to remove the 16A plug from the extension lead, then remove the standard OZ plug from your air-conditioner. Swap them.
Now your air-con has a 16A plug and you have a 10A to 16A converter lead. Just plug the Xiaomi controller into the slot of the extension lead and everything is connected.

Btw do you have a window unit? I've never seen a split unit installed with a plug (rather than directly from a wall socket/standalone cable)

      • Here is an example of the lead:

        Check out the 103D/104D.

Am I right in saying this wont work in Australia because its 16 amps?

    • Yes, see above.

    • Yes, correct. Won't work in Australia.

      • -1

It will work, you'll just be limited controlling a total of 10 amps, 2400 Watts.

Anything more will likely trip your circuit breaker or fuse, (or possibly start a fire if the protection or wiring is substandard).

Just file the pins as jimmyf mentioned above.

  • Does the 16A plug fit into those dodgy "universal" adapters?

    • Those adaptors will not handle 16amp even if the pins do fit.
      You don't want a fire.

      • Of course. Just plug in a device that draws 10A or less.

        • It is a very bad idea to use high wattage devices with universal adapters regardless of whether it physically fits. Air-conditioners definitely counts as high wattage.

        • @truetypezk:

Did OP actually say he wanted to use it with an air conditioner? I'd use one just for the fact that it has a passthrough powerpoint (as the original Xiaomi gateway blocks two points).

  • @op I'd you ever get a solution ?

I picked one up in China and want to use it as a gateway / it remote (not to pass through to an AC)

    • for whoever travels here, I managed to firmly slide this AC unit into a black universal plug adaptor (3 prong one).

      It works a charm.

I'm not planning to plug anything into the top of it which means the power usage readings in the mi app are useless but thats totally okay since controlling the split system in my guest room was the only task

(plan to use it to send a 'just incase' turn off signal to the AC when the room reaches below 20c 2+ hours, or a window is left open for 5 mins)
