Mapt Pro is usually US$30 per month, and is Packt Publishing's online ebook and videos repository. Mapt Basic is $20 but you don't get one free ebook/vid per month.
It has a broad range of subjects: Blockchain, C, C++, Linux, Internet Of Things, machine learning, big data framework like Kafka

It has all of their ebooks and videos ever published, and is non DRM-ed so you can copy paste codes into your Dev environment. It has a nice reading interface too with chapter selector, coloured tables and hint boxes.

It also gives you a token every month that you're subbed. This token allows you to buy one ebook/video and get it in the format you want: PDF, ePub and Mobi

  • Came here looking for Monty, left disappointed….

For what it is worth, Python the programming language was named after Monty Python and not the snake.

  • Nice deal! Thanks for the share.

  • What kind of titles in this packt sub?

I thought the $1 includes the subscription that is worth $30. Not bad deal though.

    • Every single book and videos on their site, you can read it thru Mapt.

  • Thanks for sharing. Nice one.

go take a look at some of the reviews for packt and their books, not good at all.

Just judging by that I'd highly recommend people proceed cautiously with this deal.

    • Tbh the content seems OK, couple of work colleagues use them also. I'd be interested to see the neg reviews you mentioned.

I'd recommend people start with the free trial and browse if anything is of interest. If not, don't buy the Bundle as it is still available for 13 days

First rule of coding in Python: Learn a different language to code in.

    • Do you mean Python isnt a good language to learn?

      • +1

It's a fantastic language to learn. This is coming from someone who started with Java at the age of 11 and is now working in Python/Javascript.

Python is definitely different to the big C(++)/Java/C# 3, but it's a great language and easy to learn.

        • Thanks for replying!

Are any of the books offered in this bundle worth for super new beginners in programming? There's so many offered but not sure if they're deemed worthy for newcomers..

@sssbp: Hey. I find it hard to read programming books as I always see myself just wanting to spend the time in the environment. I wouldn't know about these books. I would use the internet (free) for resources when first starting programming. It's easier to stop and start with that.

        • @StoneSin:

          Excellent, thanks StoneSin, much appreciated

@sssbp: Many people recommend CodeAcademy for beginners wanting to learn a simple language. I originally learned HTML/CSS/Javascript first, then moved into Java as an actual programming language.

        • @Clear:

          Legend,thank you Clear!

hmm? First rule for any language is to learn another language at the same time or before it.

There's nothing wrong with Python. It has it's uses.

    • First rule of coding in Python: Learn a different language to code in.

This is true for any language.

I would love to get this!

Without buying it of course :)

  • If you get the books as straight PDF, no DRM, it's not a bad deal, if you need to use a reader of some description, that's not so good, as now you need an account and a reader, etc.

    • +1

I just downloaded one of the books as PDF
I can copy and paste contents from it, and Adobe Reader DC says only page extraction and document assembly are not allowed

  • Thanks OP, looking to learn Python more for day job.

Bought the $8 USD pack - any suggestions of an order in which to consume the books?

    • definitely YMMV, but I'd look at the code cookbook/recipes and table of contents about the tasks you're looking to accomplish
