  • Just rang them (JB) up and was told that I wouldn't qualify coming across from Vodafone, where my vodafone account is only 2 weeks old. Voda's coverage isn't good enough where I live so I was going to take advantage of their love'em or leave em within 30 days.
So, even though I was with ALDI before that for a year, I don't qualify for this deal because the account I would be transferring from isn't established (3 months or more). :(

Why can't you leave Voda based on their policy, go prepaid with whoever you want (just not Telstra), then port to this Telstra deal whilst on prepaid, you don't need the 3months or more being on prepaid from the looks of it.

      • They told me it had to come from an "established" account of 3 months or more..

        • +3

I wouldn't believe what you've been told. Go to different JB, they'd tell you different story. Porting is porting. Whether you stay with Voda for 1 day or 3 years, it's the same. There's no requirement to stay for 3 months (as others, I ported for a day or 2 just to take some offer, never had issue).
Different case, if you were with Telstra prior to that, they could probably put up a case to void the offer, as per other comment that say you should have stayed out more than 30 days (though why would Telstra doing that when they're the one getting customer, like they have no other things to do).

sounds like a bunch of wanks

        • +3

@hanofee: Just spoke to a different store - and they said No problem! Just so long as I wasn't a Telstra customer previous to moving to Vodafone it would be fine.

        • +2

@MasterNoob: I imagine a bunch of wanks to sound quite sloppy…

        • I've been told this from 3 different JB stores; was with Boost (which is considered to be a Telstra pre-paid account) then switched to Vodafone. Have been with Vodafone for over a month now but they have told me that I have to be ported out for a min 3mths before they consider me to be a "new" Telstra customer.

        • after all that, managed to call into a city store and, low and behold, the order went through without a hitch! So, take the advice of what others have already mentioned - if it doesn’t work at one store, try another one!

Given it is cheaper to keep a customer than bring on a new one you think that companies would give benefits for loyalty.

Nah, it's all about growth. Trend is your friend. If you're not growing, you're already dead.

      • +1

The illusion of growth. Still, the continuous porting gives Telstra’s outsourcers something to keep them busy.

I was with Vodafone for 6 hrs (ported from Telstra Prepaid) and then got JB deal on 31st. No issues, When you go to JB, do not tell them that you were with Telstra before

    • What they don't know won't hurt them.

Just so you guys know (cos this was surprising to me). Telstra online service is non-existent. Yes they have chat and the phone lines but the operators on them have little power to do anything. I signed up for the S8 F&F deal end of last year and whilst I got my phone fast, the port took over a week (without any service from either my previous provider or telstra) and it only went through when I went to the telstra store (they fixed it in 10 minutes after the phone operator told me to keep waiting 48 hours every 48 hours). Unfortunately cos the telstra store guys activated my account, it is on some business plan which I didn't sign up for with only 2GB data. I am still not on the deal I signed up for and its like 3 months down the track. I called up and went through chat literally 30 times and have a complaints manager etc but noone can do anything. Weird thing is they haven't charged me anything either so wondering if I should just leave it for now or try to port out again cos they are too incompetent to do anything about it…

TIO only to get an Australian to do the job.

      • u rekn? or shud I just port out…I honestly think they would be too retarded to realise I had ever signed up…

    • Dont think they will offer you your magical offer even if you kiss their butt. Pretty sure any telco would try avoid customers like you. Please dont be offended by my comment. Peace.

Well you can go suck it then! Peace

5 negative votes for what? Up yours then mate :P

would the same theory work again?

    $79/mth BYO for 24mths 20gb with S8

more expensive this time around; but if you value:
    *Telsra's premium service at $40/mth for 20gb = $40x 24ths ($960)
*JB gift card @10% off= $135 (prices are inflated; try get JB to match)

    (1896 - 960 - 135 = 801)

An Aus Stock Samsung Galaxy S8 at $801 today is ok in my mind.
(Grey imports warranty are not comparable to 24months in Aus)

    NOTE:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351252
JB had these S8's for $888 in store.
So with a 10% off gift card; it could have previously been purchased for $800.

  • Should I ring them or I apply it online?
I have submitted online but no one contact me. :?

    • +1

It is best to go in store, since they may need your IDs to apply.

      • Thanks, sounds more promising since no one call me up since I submitted online. :)

  • So nothing is written in the CIS or on their website or anywhere about the Porting time limit or any details around the gift card porting etc.

I've tried a store after porting from Telstra to Optus and a few hours after it's showing up as ported went back in and got the "has to be more than x time ported to get the gift card and discounted offer.."

but there's nothing in writing that says this.. is this allowed?

Got it! $49 & 20gb for life of the service (so it will continue on after your initial 12 months).
Went into a JB earlier this afternoon and did it in under half an hour, got my new sim and service and was activated seconds after. Perfect!
    Cbf for Optus anymore!

Ps: I was previously with Telstra on the exact same number, then ported to Optus and now ported back - it all worked fine!

  • do i need to port out of woolworths mobile??

  • +1

is there an expiry date for this deal?

  • I got this today, but was first told that the deal had ended yesterday. It was still up on the JB Hi-Fi website, so I showed them the ad and they sold it to me anyway :) So I guess as soon as the ad disappears the gift card part will be over, and they said the $49 monthly deal runs until the 26th Feb.
