The Sanda version comes in large & small (43mm) for $7.19 shipped.

This is my favourite China Cheapo watch. The only thing I don't like is the white writing on the edge of the resin case, so I used a couple of pins and started scraping at the letters which seems to be the best way to remove it.

One pin was slightly burred, which seemed to help remove it quicker, then I used a sharp pin to get in the corners.
I also used an old toothbrush and water to brush away the loose paint a few times, trying not to get it too wet as I don't trust it being waterproof, but others have said that they have worn it swimming.

You need good eyes & a steady hand to do this as you don't want to touch outside the letters with the pin. The letters are recessed which helps. My older blue model didn't have recessed letters, so I wouldn't recommend this procedure on that type.
Here is a photo on my wrist after the paint was removed.

Just waiting for mathnerd to approve this price..

    • T'were wrong anyway. I got charged A$5.28 via PayPal, so it's 3 cents cheaper than claimed.

      "From amount $5.28 AUD
      To amount $3.99 USD
      Exchange rate: 1 AUD = 0.755732 USD"

      • +1

        Terrible..reported to the mathnerd!

        • +2

Report actioned, user terrys banned for using PayPal conversion rates rather than using a fee-free card.

      • +1

Used 28 Degrees card linked to PayPal and paid in USD. The transaction shows up as AUD$5.09 when I log on to 28 Degrees. Do not let PayPal do the conversion!

Also code works for other colours and if you check out with one of each colour, the discount applies to the others too.

        • Hey DEADBEEF. I want to set up a system like yours with Paypal, but I cannot see where Paypal have hidden the "Do not let PayPal do the conversion" switch. Can you help me out in letting me know how to do your trick?

        • @zonbie:
Go to Profile > Payments > My Preapproved Payments > Set Available Funding Sources > Conversion Options

        • Thanks DB. Will give it a go now.

        • +1

Sen-Freakin-Sational !!! It worked! Thank-you so much DEADBEEF. Perfect. Just perfect…. now to add the 28 deg card.
          Thanks again man.

      I approve this price.

Kinda relevent, kinda not, but (@OP) do you have any experience with the Skmei 1216? Found it while looking for a watch with a compass to take hiking, but didn't get around to doing any more research into it at the time. This just jogged my memory.

    • +4

No I don't, but I would definitely check for some reviews online if you can find any.
I would be a bit cautious of a compass working properly on a Skmei watch.

    • These videos might be useful though Member WatchNerd is certainly correct about trusting the compass for accuracy in the middle of nowhere.

  • OP, how do you deal with batteries on these purchases?
As in, when they run out? Do you change them yourself?

    • +1

I've had my blue negative display for over 2 years & it's still works fine, I rarely use the backlight.
I won't be replacing the battery when it dies. It wouldn't be hard though, there are 4 small screws on the back.

Plus I have recently bought another one.
Why would you bother if it lasts a year or two & you can get a brand new one for $5.31 shipped.

      • +1

Do batteries leak if you don't change them when they die? I know not such a problem with these cheap watches but should I be concerned with flat batteries in my more expensive watches?

        • +1

Yes I have read somewhere that they should be removed.

        • +1

@WatchNerd: Thanks good to know I haven't been wasting my money changing the battery in my Omega Seamaster every 2 years even though I hardly wear it.

        • +1

They can leak if you wait a very long time. Last year I changed a watch battery that had been in there 30 years but there was no leak.

        • +3

          @PJC:
I think 30 years is an indicator of the quality of battery casing that existed at that time. The OEM battery in my Tissot PRC200 was leaking when opened at ~6 years.

        • @BartholemewH: I think you're right; and 6 years is far too early.

        • @WatchNerd:
I've looked at all the colours online, but its hard to get a realistic point of view.

I think the Black looks the best head-on, as its okay clarity wise but looks like it has atrocious viewing angles.
The Blue is unique, but looks less legible than the Black model, and has the same viewing angles.
The Orange is not common, and seems to be much better in viewing angles. However, the Backlight seems to be very weak.
The White (regular display) seems like it has the best viewing angles, best Backlight, and clearest display under the sun… the only downside is that its a very common display/not-unique.

….anyways those were my impressions. Do you think I was close?
Or is there something you can add, so that people get a better idea about the performance of the different displays.

          Cheers mate!

        • @Kangal:

The positive display is obviously the easiest to see, and my blue negative display is harder to see, specially indoors. Outside in the sun is better. I haven't seen the other two in the flesh, but I imagine they would be the same.

If you are considering buying a more expensive negative display G-Shock, then this is a great way to test it out to see if you like it.

        • @WatchNerd:
I have a negative display Casio, but its very old.
Doubt that these displays have improved over the decades, though I'm unsure.

If you think they're the same, then it would mean the Skmei and New Casio are both quite the bad-quality as the legacy stuff. So the Positive Display seems to be the way to go in terms of performance for a watch (indoor, mixed, outdoor performance).

Though you make a great point about buying a couple of these watches, to get most of the experience of owning a Casio unit.

      • +1

It's crazy that a new watch is about the same price as a DIY battery change.

  • Coupon code works with other colours too. Went for a blue one.

As an aside how many watches do you actually own WatchNerd?

    • +1

I try to keep it at about 10, but the China Cheapos don't really count, so I probably have about 15.
I'm very tight, so that stops me having more.

Great detailed post; appreciate your efforts with this WatchNerd! 💪

  • +1

Got one for my son :-) Thanks.

  • +2

    is better then apple watch?

    • +3

      Yes.

  • +1

    does it include band 28?

  • +1

Bought 2. It looks really cool with the with text scraped. Thanks WatchNerd!
    P/S: I bought 2 without any problem.

    • +1

Thanks, it's a pretty easy mod to do if you take your time.
You can hardly see the text in the flesh now, it stands out more in the photo.

  • +2

    Thanks! Bought one :D

    • Now get a lottery ticket. I would love to hear you bought a watch matching your username.

      • +2

Yup! Here we go!. Still wishing for the day I win the lottery. Max I won was $5 from scratchies.

        Edit: Removed original link

        • I've started dribbling.

  • This is a copy of the DW5600 right?

    • Looks very similar to my DW-5600E. Tempted to buy, but then I already have the real deal?

      • +2

The Skmei 1134 is 50mm wide, & the Casio DW5600E-1V is 42.8mm, which is small for a G-Shock.
I'm baffled why Casio haven't released a large version, the same size as the Skmei.

        • +5

After getting my DW5600, I actually prefer the smaller size over my Skmei. I think it's more comfortable, especially when the weather's hot.

On a side note, Amazon stuffed up my DW5600 order. So I jumped on chat and re-ordered at the same price. However, the next day I got an email saying it was being re-shipped at the origin cheap price. So I'll end with three G's at that ridiculous price - my original two orders and an extra.

        • @ilikeit:
How much was the price, $49 ?
Just as a reference point, cheers.

        • Lowest ever price.

        • @Kangal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/350111

Sorry on mobile. Missed link before.

        • @ilikeit:
Yeah, I typically see them around $70… so $40 is quite the bargain.
Especially when you consider how much bang-for-buck you get even with the $70 price tag compared to the likes of $400 watches.

Analogue, Stainless Steel, and Automated rotors are overrated compared to more accurate Digital watches, with more functions, easy to read displays, and a smaller/lighter/comfortable plastic housing.

      • +3

No harm done at that price.

  • +1

    Thanks, good work.

  • Wow. All this discussion over a $5 watch.

    • +6

      It's $5.31 actually.

      • +2

        you are so cool

        • Disregard the rumours … plus-voting this deal at the green number beside the Discount Code is nothing whatsoever to do with witchcraft, believe me.

    • As WatchNerd said, it's actually more than $5. Reported to the mods.

  • @watchnerd …Hello you did good with this product at a great price.
Do you have access to other brands ie seiko, tissot, bulova as Im interested in analogue autos.
    Max respect.

  • +1

    missed out! Code has expired.

    • +1

Yes it was limited to first 100 only.
The next best price is $7.90 shipped, see the link in the description.

  • +2

Here is a photo on my wrist after the paint was removed

Nice wrist, WatchNerd. Maybe consider wrist modelling? You can then try out many many more watches, in line with your username.

  • +1

Got the one on eBay, looks a bit better than the cheapo sports watches in Big W, Kmart etc.

  • Any more code?

  • +2

Thank you sir. Blame for first watch of the year goes to you! I don'think PJC can absolve anything under $10, the Swiss Masters have prohibited him from doing so. Luckily I bought 2 of them, which does get it just over $10.

    • +2

By the power vested in me it is my solemn duty to hereby absolve you of all blame and any residual guilt concerning the essential acquisition of these two functional portable horological necessities.

      • +1

Haha love the customised ending. Very befitting.

  • +2

Anybody got theirs yet? Would love to hear what you think of it.

    • +1

Thanks for this post. Got mine delivered yesterday in regional N.S.W. so figure many must have it delivered to city/suburb addresses.

Good solid watch with wide strong band. Like the fact that at one glance you can read the time / day / date, not year though, we should all know that lol.

      • +2

Did you get the positive display? My first one was the blue negative display, but I prefer the positive display now, much easier to see the time.

The hourly chime is very handy also, I sync it to 10 or 15 seconds before Triple J news as it starts on the hour. Then I can check all my other watches against it.

Mine is slow about 10 seconds a week, but it's so easy to adjust the time anyway.

        • Did not realise that there was two options/random chance available. Luckily mine is a plain Black Positive display, easy to read.

Edit: Just re-read your post and you actually mention this in the listing, did not even know the diff. haha

Personally I don't like hourly chimes, each to their own though.

        • +2

The link actually has 4 choices, white is a positive display, all other colours are a negative display.

    • +2

Mine was delivered around the start of March to Metro VIC.
Purchased the Black with positive display.
Great build quality and nice 'strong' feel to it.
Typical Skmei value and if bought via bricks and mortar, it would be at least $40!
Thanks WatchNerd; keep these budget Skmei deals coming!
