Aldi lsd rechargeables are $5.99 for a 4 pack aa & aaa.

Ikea lsd Ladda are $7.99 for a 4 pack aa & aaa (ikea family price)

    • +1

Yeah +1 for the Aldi ones. Been running a few generations of these alongside Eneloops and can't say that I notice any significant difference.

      • +1

I guess the difference is in the discharge rate. The Aldi ones discharge quicker than the eneloops

      • +1

Yep and you can buy two 4 packs for less than a 4 pack of Eneloops, so you have more in reserve ready to go.
Which negates any argument about them losing charge quicker.

Another +1 for the aldi ones, I've got heaps of Eneloops from the DSE days, and a couple of packs of aldi rechargeable. Can't tell them apart in the devices I've used them in. The only downside of the Aldi ones is they are bloody ugly (and don't stand out as much), which makes them more prone to being tossed as a disposable by a family member.

        • +1

Well not entirely. Its nice if you can pick up your device after a while and just use it rather than having to change the pissing batteries first. Cuts charging time too if they hold charge longer.

        • @Lps:

Yes, one example would be a small emergency torch in the car's glovebox. You might hardly ever use it but you don't want it to have self-discharged when you do need it.

          @jdr:
You will have plenty of warning as the Aldi batteries don't just stop working.

They fade out the same as other batteries, but because you are able to buy 2 packs you can have another one charged & ready to go in the glovebox, winning!

@WatchNerd: A commonsense solution at a good price.

        • @WatchNerd:

I understood from earlier comments that the Aldi batteries self-discharge faster than eneloops. Is the difference between the self-discharge rate of these batteries insignificant/minor?

  • Has anyone in SA ever seen the rechargeable batteries at Aldi?

  • Anyone have a link to the ALDI ones

    • +1

They tend to be at the checkout, next to the ordinary batteries. Sometimes they have them, sometimes they don't. I personally haven't seen them advertised in the catalogue, unless it's with a charger.

      • Do they regularly sell the charger or only when they have them as a special buy?

        • +1

Aldi only sells chargers once or twice a year.

  • I don't own any Eneloop's at all… Does this mean I have to turn in my Ozbargainer badge?

    • There's still time to redeem yourself…

    • +1

Eneloops were a good buy when DSE was clearing them. Recent deals haven't been as competitive. Personally, I've invested in the Aldi and IKEA versions. The Turnigy ones posted recently also sound like better value for your $ than most recent eneloops deals.
