Can't wait to see the XL around this price in the near future. This phone has been ridiculously priced in the first place.

    • You'll be waiting for a while.

      • +5

I don't think it will take that long actually.

        • -4

          Based on what?

        • +9

@Lorindor: How quickly the price of this has already dropped.

        • +1

@AussieDaddy: The price has only dropped significantely on the non-XL.

        • +9

          @Lorindor:

thats because the non XL is one of the ugliest phones ever, i've got it and it's hideous

        • +1

@sct911: Any regrets apart from that?

        • +1

@fredblogs: I went to the non-XL Pixel 2 from the S8 and I got used to the design really quickly. It'd be nice to have S8-like bezels, but it really doesn't bother me now unless I want to be bothered by it.

No regrets so far. I do miss wireless charging but since I switched to a magnetic charging connector, I don't really miss it any more. Battery life is great, camera is excellent.

        • @fredblogs:
it's still an awesome enough phone for me to keep for wifi browing at home, never installed a sim in it.I use a note 8 as my daily

i really do need to try the pixel 2 as my daily just to see what it's like

the camera quality of the pixel 2 is off the charts, google magic

        • +1

          @sct911:

thats because the non XL is one of the ugliest phones ever, i've got it and it's hideous

I disagree, I also have it and think it looks great, people harp on about it's bezels but it really isn't that bad and makes the phone much easier to use one-handed.

i really do need to try the pixel 2 as my daily just to see what it's like

So above you were talking about the OG Pixel, yet you know this deal is for the Pixel 2 right?

        • @Diji1: My
Pixel 2 easily takes better portrait and hdr
          photos than the missus's X.

        • @Diji1: Have you seen iPhone vs Pixel comparisons at all?

        • @Lorindor: nope, i've got the pixel 2

    • +1

Same I can't wait for the XL to be 800. Will definitely jump on board then!

Maybe the ozbargain shadow group can arrange such for us :D!

    • The problem is XL is in short supply for the Demand.

    • Price isn't too bad for flagship. Would you rather a Samsung Touhwiz lagdroid or crapple?

      Very good phone btw.

  • +5

    ummm… why does it say $849 ???

  • AU$849.00 on website. tax invoice provided?

  • Same says $849 is there a code?

  • -7

64GB phone with no sd card slot. what were they thinking?

    • +11

No reason to complain, it's more than enough for everyday users. They offer unlimited Google photo storage so that's good enough, if you needed more space then you could hook up an OTG adapter connected to a big USB drive

    • +2

You get unlimited full resolution photo and video storage with Google photos so no biggie at all IMO

      • +2

Keep in mind that the full resolution storage EXPIRES after 3 years. Not sure what will happen next…

        • +2

I'm pretty sure it'll be just like Drive. Any photos in full resolution will stay that way with new ones coming out of your storage or you could opt unlimited but compressed images after the 3 years

        • +1

You spend another $800 to buy a reduced price google pixel 3.

        • +4

Keep in mind that the full resolution storage EXPIRES after 3 years. Not sure what will happen next…

A bit of FUD floating about there.

In three years (end of 2020) when free storage "expires", it simply means you can no longer upload new photos without recompression. All your previously-uploaded photos will remain at full quality for free. All new photos uploaded after that will be recompressed just like what happens when you use a non-pixel phone now.

I'm pretty sure in three years time, Pixel 2 users would be using a different phone. Heck they'd probably change phones in two years time. Or six months, for some people.

Incidentally, some people have copied photos from their DSLR onto their Pixel (and Pixel 2) and gotten them uploaded at full quality to Google Photos for free. That's not meant to work but it has been since the first Pixel came out.

        • +1

@eug: yep, I can confirm I've been uploading raw files and full res JPEG's from my DSLR via my OG pixel for over a year now. It's tedious but it works

        • @ebosh: I believe that the old "full res" offer was tied to your Google account when you first activated your OG Pixel. When I got my Pixel 2 I noticed that they've changed the wording to say "photos TAKEN with your Pixel will be uploaded at full resolution"

        • @chartparker: I suppose that's fair enough. I've currently got a little over 300GB of RAW files stored which I'm sure wouldn't have been the original intent.

        • @ebosh: Might as well have taken advantage of it if you could!

        • @ebosh:

Can I ask how you've been doing that? Just connecting your phone via cable to your computer than copying and pasting to the device's internal storage?

        • @Lorindor: Yep. At the start I would transfer about 30GB at a time and just let it go while I was on wifi. Once the bulk was done, I've been doing it on an ad-hoc basis as I'm on a 20GB plan now.

    • -1

      what were they thinking?

They were thinking you should be connected to a wifi or cell network as much as possible because if you are not connected they cannot surveil you nor can they serve any advertising.

    • cloud storage > SD Card

  • Only 20 units left?

  • -3

Any deals on iphone 8 64gb?

  • -6

1920x1080 screen in 2018 is abomination.

    • its only 5 inches 16:9 screen, so the PPI is actually pretty good. Also the battery life is epic with that res. And the screen is a high quality Samsung AMOLED panel

      • +1

it’s for extended battery life ….. and if you are watching movies on your phone they will be 1080p max anyway ….
i’m more concerned about quality of the screen and readability in sunlight than res beyond 1080p

        • lol were you replying to Abrez or myself

  • Does anyone know if the google photos that come with it work just on the phone taken pics? What if i transfer photos from camera or use same account but on an iphone?

    • *pics taken WITH the Pixel 2. Does not transfer with account - seems it's tied to the phone

    • I don't see why you would even think you can retain unlimited Google storage on an iPhone.
The Google services probably recognises you are logging from a Pixel 2 so it gives the phone unlimited Photo storage.

      • Well the OG Pixel deal actually first had it worded that it was tied to your Google account - not necessarily just the phone. So yes I believe the first offer applied it to you entire account, but seems they wised up after that.

        • Yeah i'm not sure how it is currently done, it might actually be in the Android images themselves for the Pixels.
Either way i feel sorry for the Apple users and their 5GB iCloud storage.

        • Well the OG Pixel deal actually first had it worded that it was tied to your Google account - not necessarily just the phone.

The OG Pixel deal was worded pretty much the same as the Pixel 2. It only (officially) supports unlimited backups for photos and videos taken with the Pixel phone specifically.

If you look for old listings for Pixel phones you'll see it, e.g. here.

² Unlimited backups for photos and videos taken with your Pixel phone.

        • @eug: I'm fairly certain that it didn't have that caveat when the phone first came out as i remember looking into it, but I can't find any proof of official wording from Google at that time. Here's an article confirming that it used to work with any photos uploaded from the phone at least:

          https://www.androidcentral.com/how-google-pixel-unlimited-ph…

"Technically, the feature is valid only for photos and videos that are taken using the Pixel, but for now, it looks like all photos uploaded from the Pixel are eligible for free storage at original quality."

You're probably right though - it's been so long maybe I'm just conflating memories with wishes

        • @chartparker:

Here's an article confirming that it used to work with any photos uploaded from the phone at least:

Yup, and that "loophole" still works today. It was never officially meant to work like that though. :)

Thank you, its hard to find phones with such big bezels these days.

    • -1

should look at Pixel 2 XL!

  • Good dealp

  • Wow, just had a look at their google reviews. Good communications on low score reviews. Looks like they have calibrated their customer relations conduct quite well

  • Is this the phone with the real-time live translation feature?

    • U need to buy google buds

      • What's the standard going price on those.

        • +1

          More than they're worth

        • @chossenger: I might be willing to pay a pretty penny for this kind of technology if it works well on eavesdropping on conversations haha lol also for traveling maybe

        • @AlienC: 250 ish

        • @sauce2k: any idea if they work with any other phone or just the Pixel 2?

        • @AlienC: the real time translation ONLY works with pixel (pixe 1 included)

Wouldn't trust buying from mymobile guys. I bought my Samsung galaxy s8 and in the first day just literally out of the box, it started becoming extremely hot from first use. Asked them for help saying they'd send it to Samsung for inspection of I deliver it to them. I took it myself they could not find anything. From that day, my phone stills get hot and don't know why and people refusing to help. I am worried it may be because of not handling it properly during delivery.

    • +2

I had a perfect experience with mymobile, you can just go to Samsung for warranty, not through mymobile.

It wouldn’t be their issue at all in handling, it would be the phone issue, nothing to do with them, just take it to Samsung Australia.

      • As I said, I took it to Samsung and they couldn't find anything. So I've been having this unsolved issue since buying.

        • If Samsung said nothing was wrong with the phone, why do you still blame MyMobile?

Have you done all the usual steps? Factory reset, firmware update, not restore your backups in case there's a buggy app or config, and see if the problem comes back?

        • then that's Samsung's fault, not mymobile.

        • Like I said again, I was like this when I got it out of the box.

        • @PeeDee:

100% Samsung’s issue then, you should ask them what’s going wrong with it, if their judgement was that there isn’t anything wrong with it then I’m not sure what’s going on.

        • +1

@PeeDee: How's this mymobile fault? You should push Samsung AU and insist your phone battery is playing up if you really think it's hardware issue. If nothing wrong it must be some app(s) you've installed

        • Mate you definitely should push harder. Understand the frustration but this is not MyMobile’s fault

  • With deals like this, how does warranty work? Can I go to Google directly for repairs or replacement or am I tied to this seller?

Anyone experienced Google's support for their phones? This is probably my main concern with switching to Android phones.

    • doh, just read the previous comment about Samsung but interested to hear about Google specifically too. Thanks.
