Pandemic Board Game $44 + $4.99 Delivery @ MightyApe

600

Was looking for a cheap deal for pandemic and found this! Usually $50+ so a pretty good deal. This is a crazy fun co op board game to play with friends

Players must work together playing to their characters' strengths and planning their strategy of eradication before the diseases overwhelm the world with ever-increasing outbreaks. For example the Operation Specialist can build research stations which are needed to find cures for the diseases. The Scientist needs only 4 cards of a particular disease to cure it instead of the normal 5. But the diseases are out breaking fast and time is running out: the team must try to stem the tide of infection in diseased areas while also towards cures. A truly cooperative game where you all win or you all lose

This is a part of their larger board game sale: https://www.mightyape.com.au/sales/13778/board-game-bonanza/… - Rather reasonable!

  • hi just wondering, is this the same as Target's game ? https://www.target.com/p/pandemic-board-game/-/A-14203019?lnk=rec|adaptpdph1|related_prods_vv|adaptpdph1|14203019|2

same, but that's the american target

It's a shame that Australian department stores only stock generic boardgames such as monopoly and twister.

Still kicking myself I wanted the fallout game but ordered at cubox website instead. Currently on backorder.

Mighty ape already has it in stock.

Ordered Catan and pandemic because people keep raving about it.

    • +1

Can confirm about the raves for Catan. It's a really great and strategic game, and has competitetiveness between each other (like how people say you lose friends playing Monopoly)

      • Haha did you just compare Catan to Monopoly?!

        • Monopoly

Pun intended for Catan players :P and literally how I win the game most of the time

    • I felt the Fallout game was a bit hit and miss, don't expect the world from it, but YMMV

This is a great game with excellent replay value. I really like the cooperative nature of the game - there's no competition between players, but rather each player uses their own special ability to contribute to reaching the objective.

    • I have played it about 6 times, but never won. How do we win?

      • +1

Git gud son…. :-) Truthfully, even with experience we could only win about half the time.

        My advice:
        a) Make the most of each of the roles - they can be used really effectively when they cooperate fully.
        b) Make sure your research stations are well distributed. Try to cure one disease early on if possible - it makes the rest of the game much easier.\
        c) Keep careful track of the city cards that have been played. You can have a pretty good guess at where outbreaks are likely to happen.

        • Seems to be easier with less people too, the more people the less cooperation, everyone has different ideas and wants to take their person off to do what they think is best.

        • Thanks!

      • if you've been dealing out random roles, try playing with these ones instead: Medic, Researcher, Scientist, Dispatcher.

also, make sure you build at least one extra research station early on. They act like portals to allow you to jump around the map and you'll want to be able to access one quickly when you're ready to find a cure. I'd also suggest you don't go too far out of your way in order to trade cards, you can waste a lot of time doing that, and don't be afraid to spend them to fly around.

  • I think there's an ios version of this game for $8

  • Mighty ape shipping has changed to $5.99

Forbidden island is a brilliant coop game as well. My favorite

    • +2

Have you done Forbidden Desert too? I have that one and it's ace. How's it compare to island?

      • Forbidden Desert is much better than Island and Pandemic IMO.

Not a game I would recommend to a group with a mixed level of board gaming experience but definitely one I would recommend to a group that's mostly new / casual gamers.

This game suffers from the 'alpha player' problem, which people like to blame the alpha player for but it's generally brought about by the other players.

There's mostly optimal decisions that can often be seen by an experienced player and if they say nothing they might as well not be helping anyone learn to play, so the game ends up being the most experienced player makes all the decisions, OR you play knowingly sub-optimally.

I highly recommend Pandemic Legacy (Season 1 and 2) which solves this problem by constantly changing the rules and ensuring no player is too experienced since it's basically 12-24 games that nobody involved has ever played.

    • the game doesn't suffer from the "alpha player" problem, the players do.

      • I did say that.

Basically the game doesn't abstract a players actions as their decisions at all, so you're playing the whole thing as group if you actually want to win.

If your group has experienced players, they'll do all the talking, OR they'll just shutup (like you might want them to), and the inexperienced players will ask for advice anyway, OR they'll make stupid decisions which will lead to consequences, and you can't just say "oh I didn't want to warn you about that because I'm not THAT kind of player".

If the players are all equally experienced (or inexperienced) then everyone has a say and there's no issue, it's just not a skill gap friendly game, which is why I recommend Pandemic Legacy which enforces zero skill gap.

  • $48.99

"Usually $50+ so a pretty good deal"

    $1.01 saving?

  • Such a great game. Got it for Christmas and it has been great

  • I found this deal about 4 or 5 days ago - ordered Pandemic + Carcassonne which is also a great deal for $42 - postage is still only $6. Some really great deals for some great games.

Some other decent deals they have for good games are:
    - Splendor $56
    - Codenames Pictures $21
    - Small World $65
    - Dominion $59

    • sorry - didn't check and it looks like Carcassonne is no longer available. Glad I snared a copy. Due to be delivered in the next day or two.
      - Splendor also unavailable

  • Board game seems to be highly rated. Ordered one copy although postage was $5.99. Thanks for posting this deal.

  • No Mansions of Madness, only expansions. 😞
