A Question for Gaming Enthusiastic People Who Just Collect So Many Games and Not Play

HI All,

I started watching gameplay videos on YouTube and loved it. Then bought a console and realised I was very bad at gaming. Still I collect lot of games (when the cost is low).

Just curious to know who is like me and share your thoughts.

Thanks

so you enjoy gaming or not ?

    • I do but I die a lot.

      • "but did you die?"

        yes

        .

i bought halo collection and the cheap assassins creed from deals posted here. have only played halo for ten minutes, realised I really just like car games. at least my lad has played halo a bit (it's his xbox anyway).

      • Are you playing Dark Souls? Because if so, that is expected.

I do that as well, still have a few PS3 games that I bought and never played (some are still in shrink wrap to this day)
Promised myself that on the PS4 I’d buy a game, complete it, and then buy another one.
Fast forward a year and my back log comprises of FFXV, Horizon, 2 Danganronpa games, Gravity rush, MGS5, Wolfenstein and who knows what else..
I blame it all on Fear Of Missing Out during sales.

    • your game collection for ps4 backlog is the same as mine, minus the danganronpa (what's that) and MGS5 an wolfenstein. STill have my infamous second son from when it came out. Will play it one day cough. Now i try to wait for sales for <$50 for brand new, or close to $20-30, as i found alot of games i rushed to buy on cheap at $50 something turned out to be $20-25 second hand or new now , and it's still sitting unplayed on my shelf anyway.

    steam summer sales…

    • This. Plus Humble Bundle. In some ways Humble is even worse. See a game I might like and the bundle comes with 6 other games too.

  • So much so, I used to buy up so many games on Steam, and then one day stopped using Steam altogether and play my PS4/xbox/switch instead. Worse problem I have is I buy games that look great as soon as it comes out, and then never play them, and by the time I get around to playing it, I could've bought the game for only 10 to 20 instead of full rrp.

I like games I can play on easy though, lets me feel like a bad ass when I have the same problem with you (very bad at gaming) also helps save a lot of time since I work full time as well. Only problem is when some games a way better when its more difficult.

I collect so many porn but never….. Ups…

  • I like money too much to waste it on games I won't play. Most of my games I get through buying good value bundles and selling off everything except what I want to keep and making it free or profiting from it.

    I think I'm worse
I started to collect ps3 games cause they were cheap… but I didn't buy a ps3 yet lol, cause it was tooo expensive, after 6 months I had a collection and then got a ps3 during Christmas sales lolz

  • I am stuck to BattleField 1 since last 12-15 months and have purchased about 10 games since but havent played any UC4-Hitman-Ghost Recon-Fifa18 etc…not sure if BF1 is this addictive or I am just not ready to let go of my supremacy, legacy and equity that I have built in BF1 multiplayer

  • I have only 1 'game' - x-plane. I 'play' it when I need a break at work :) A quick flight from Sydney to Canberra. Canberra to Sydney takes longer due to ATC at Sydney airport. Alternatively Hobart to Bruny Island in a smaller plane.

  • The usual estimate is that 37% of Steam games are never played:

But surely it's common where games are the cost of a coffee or less to just buy them on a whim and not play them. I wonder if people who have more money but less time often do this.

I have 400 games or so on my Steam account. However, I'd happily say that while I haven't played the majority of them I've gotten great value out of games overall.

Guilty as charged! However, I don't mind it as the money spent this way keeps the good games coming.
E.g. you may have purchased a game that was well reviewed and never got the chance to play it, but this has contributed to the next game by the same developers, which maybe a game that you will end up enjoying for >200 hours.
    Happy gaming (collecting)!

Everyone dies a lot in games. It's how you get better.

    • God mode FTW.

  • I may not finish, but I do play every game I ever buy, as long as we're not talking about like, the 1$ tier in a $15 Humble I bought for the top tier games. To me, I used a spectrum for most games, which is the classic "1 hour of gameplay for every dollar spent." In the old games, this was unrealistic, as most good games were 10 hours long and cost you $40-$80, but nowadays, with devs stretching their games into sandbox or grindfests, it's usually pretty plausible.

Do I have more fun with a 10 hour game stretched into 120 hours so devs can sell microtransactions? Not really, but you don't feel it at the time. Also by association, never buy any in-app transactions from a game store; if you do that, they win!

To avoid the newbie sting, try to do research on games you're interested in. For example, if you went to the shop and liked the look of Nioh, which is essentially just a Dark Souls clone, would you have more fun if you played Dark Souls or Bloodborne? The answer is probably! If there's a game you see, try to look up online what comparisons people are drawing to that game and check those games out, even if you just look up a gameplay video of it.

Also try to expand your genre limits further early, so you don't get stuck on the trope of "I only play call of Duty and Far Cry every year". I personally would suggest Monster Hunter World coming out at the end of the month, as well as looking into strategy or roguelike indie titles.

Make a list (I have google doc)and start ticking games off.
    That's what im doing.
Ive been smashing through 1 game a week depending on it's length.
This is for campaign games only.

  • I stopped myself from buying any more humble bundles.
Not enough time and too much to play.
Time investment needed to get any good.

I should probably give away and sell my steam keys.

  • Just keep on purchasing while on special maybe
Will finish them one day after playing for 10min. :/

Only game i truly played was resident evil 7 and still waiting it out to play on the rift wich hope it does come to it. :(

On the xbox x now and then Fifa 18 and WW2.

Only game i truly play from time to time is mario oddesey.

All up maybe 15+ purchases last year.
