Great price, but the colours of the Comfort Caftsman are not the popular ones you see most people wearing (chestnut and black). Looks like the brown has a different texture to normal as well (maybe its suede?).

    • Without meaning to argue, why would you want “what people are normally wearing”? Personally think the chestnut and dark tan are the worst colours, offering no patina and look bland. The chocolate rough out leather on these looks far better, but would be a smart casual boot more than anything.

  • Yep its suede, which is normally cheaper than leather.

Does RM Williams make a ‘nice’ looking steel cap boot?

    • +1

no - they don't do safety boots

      try Blundstone or Redback

    • +5

So you can glam up a bit at the construction site? bahaha

      • +1

Haven't you seen The Simpsons? Construction guys like to party!

    • Are you Mike Nolan?

    • Id buy one for the comfort and quality, hate replacing absolety fucekd boots every year.

      • +1

Try the Rivers Goodyear Welted Boots. They are durable (unlike most work boots which have a moulded and glued sole).

        • comfy and steelcap?
edit: damn i checked no steelcap

        • +1

@abuch47: Yeah, not steel cap. They are comfortable though once you replace the insole. The sole is solid rubber not expanded foam like many boots now. I just spent a month on holidays in the US, I wore my pair every single day, everywhere from LA to Alaska. Treated with beeswax they are waterproof.

        • @macrocephalic:black leather pair I assume as the beeswax sorta ruins khaki suede.

        • +1

@abuch47: Brown leather. They aren't polished or suede, more just like a raw look. They take beeswax well.

Last time I ordered an RM deal like this from DJ's they got back to me and said it was sold out, even tho there was suddenly stock back in at the store. They basically said they would not honour the price and bad luck !

Good price for a good set of boots if you get stock. I have a couple of pairs on rotation for work im nearly up to 3 years and they are still solid.

    • How's the heel on your RMs? I only have those dodgy Windsor Smith / Julius Marlow shoes and the heel pretty much wears out in 6mths

      • +3

I have the comfort which has a fairly thick rubber heel. Im also a heel dragger so have the same issue. Lasted well so far. They also get good results after a resole which is $50 or so. I have a 10 year old pair on their third round of soles for when I'm heading out to less than desirable situations e.g trashy clubs/pubs, concerts etc I wouldnt pay full retail but if you can get a pair for 3-350 or less I think they are value for money. Chino's on special from Uniqlo ,half a dozen shirts from TM.Lewin (On special !) and a pair of RM's you can pretty much handle any situation.

          @tomleonhart:

No but if he shares my fashion sense, eggsy is clearly a top bloke.

mine wore out in a year.

        5 days a week. 12 hours a day.

got the heal replaced for $50. should be good for another year

        • +4

You should really alternate shoes daily to give the leather time to dry and recover. Wearing daily will destroy them quickly.

        • +2

@wolfshooter: ^ very true. I once wore out a pair of undies wearing the same pair every day.

          ===

        • @wolfshooter:
Couldn’t advise using leather conditioner more. Even the RM Williams leather conditioner is reasonably priced and lasts ages. I try to use it once per week.

        • @malouphix: I doubt it was the wearing that did them in, more a problem with emissions control.

      • +1

I’ve had the same issue, worn a pair of boots from Myer and the sole have worn completely through in 3 months of daily wear. I now have a pair of chestnut comfort craftsmen that have seen daily use for about three years now and you’d be hard pressed to find any wear and tear on the sole whatsoever.

        • +1

I should also add that mine are rubber soled

  • Good deal if you want suede :-/ personally they're too much maintainable for me !

    • Actually less to maintain than leather. Buy a suede brush and a spray and that’s it. Shoes trees recommended for all good shoes though.

  • Do these even go with formal wear?

    • No. Suede is for casual outfits.

Success rate of about 1 in 5 on that awful website. And then they will blame the likes of Amazon or whatever for their failure.

    • +4

Agree…DJs have one of the worst websites for a Major Retailer. Their Inventory systems are hopeless too. Ive had my order cancelled quite a few times.

      • +1

I think both Myer and DJ are awful

  • :( Turnout out of stock and nowhere in Melbourne.

    Cashed up tradie boots lol

    • I don't think tradies wear rm's :))) lol :)

  • Seems to be back in stock.
