      It means “sell your soul”

Haha, I was thinking along the lines of "+10 to dexterity"…

  • +1

Take a photo of what? me taking shower?

This is a fantastic deal. Please use reusable coffee cups people, those paper cups cannot be recycled due to the wax coating, no matter what the manufacturers say. Better yet get one from meals-on-wheels or other charities and do double the good.

    • +3

Well, I hope people would clean their cups properly. The number of times I've seen reusable cups looking disgusting is frightening.

      • Maybe because they put in dishwasher? Somehow the coffee stains cling on after repeated washing, same with mugs. I don't have a problem with hand washing coffee cups so far. old coffee stains can be quite gross.

        • I notice a lot of people forget to wash their cups in the office and leave it overnight or some times over the weekend. People who use them need to be more responsible with the cleaning.

        • @Munki: how does this impact you?

        • @Munki:
oh eeewww! people do yucky things in offices. Like left over food with things growing in them.

//For five mornings from Monday, January 14, the CBD shopping centre is giving away 800 free keep cups made by Melbourne-based design company Frank Green, as well as free coffee from Fratelli Fresh to go inside them.//

Wonder if that is 800 per morning or 800 across the five mornings (i.e. 160 each morning).

    • If I had to guess I reckon 800 total. How many coffees can they make in 3 hours?

      • I'd expect a barista can churn out more than 50 coffee in an hour

        • So that sounds about right then. Add time for them to force you to pledge and stuff.

          800 * $35 is much less than 4000 * $35 for such a marketing/promo initiative from their end.

        • +1

          @John Kimble:

But 160 per day is also a much less of an incentive to getting up that early

    • +1

January 14 is a Sunday. The author has consumed too much coffee.

  • Is this like a pledge for a pre-determined value or can I be tight and give them $1?
Also, I've already got a keepcup (thanks Jamaica Blue!) is there any point having this smartcup?

In other words, what's the catch?

Grab your FREE frank green smart cup and FREE coffee with a pledge.

This isn't a freebie. There's strings attached. Good deal still, I'll be there on the 15th!

    • +3

I don't think they mean a monetary pledge.. It's like you have to make a promise on social media to be sustainable and use reusable cups.

      • +2

Umm, sorry to be blunt but that means absolutely jacks**t.
People will do what they like regardless of what they post. They might use the cup when its convenient for them, but not otherwise.

        • +1

          No shit

        • +5

Yes no one ever lies on social media

        • -2

          What a dumb comment.

  • -2

prefer a glass or ceramic cup. But thank you for sharing

  • +2

City walk up deals - ugh! Will cost me half the price of the cup alone to get there and back (and a couple hours of lost sleep). Worth it? Prob not.

  • I think it is supposed to be level 2?

The coffee will be provided by Guylian and Fratelli Fresh on Level 2 of Westfield Sydney from 7.30am until 10.30am, starting Monday. Cups are limited, so get in quick to fix your coffee fix.

      Typo?

      • Oh I get it, free cup from level 2 and free coffee from level 5!

        • Located at the Pitt St Mall entrance, between Nespresso and Zara.

        • +2

          @John Kimble:

2 queues at different location for 1 promotion? Can they make it any more complicated?

        • +2

          @Love a bargain: It's like a mini amazing race?

Just want to say these cups are a nightmare to keep clean. The mechanism for the push top opening makes it a real pain. Looks pretty though. I wanted to like it!

    • The small ones are best, large are too tall to fit under the groups of many machines.

I'm always mad at Frank about that- a design fault! I thought this damn cup was designed (it was!). Even bought it from the Design Centre and everything…

The mechamnism can be cleaned quite easily, you just have to wash it out a lot and use it often. Worthwhile to have food grade grease if you take it apart a lot (another design challenge)…

Great cup otherwise, never leaks and fits in all holders.

  • Ok am here, lock n loaded!

    • Wah. Crazy. Are you first in line?

      • Of course not.

        • +2

Seriously not first in line? It doesn't start for another fifty minutes!

        • how long is the line now? debating whether to bother getting up still lol

        • @boogerthe2nd: right now, very loooooooooooooooooong

        • @tempura: How long did it take you to line up & get the cups?

        • @redpump: give or take, 2 hours; my recommendation to give it buffer and come in a tad early like 6:30 am.

  • +5

Dont bother this morning, line has now extended past the express escalator up westfield foodcourt.

    • It's all the way past h&m now. Close to country road on the corner.

    • +1

Keep the updates coming! Any photos? Lol
Glad I ended up staying in bed.
Wonder how many they're actually giving away today.

  • +2

There's one person on a single grouphead machine and one on the milk.

Even a well equipped coffee shop would struggle to pump out so many coffees. Besdides the fact, you have to jump onto your phone and do something (I didn't bother finding out).

There's going to be a lot of disappointed people.

    • What he said

  • +1

That queue is ridiculously long and not moving. Walked pass and to work instead. Not worth a $20-30 cup

  • They are running out of colours, mostly orange and pink left, line running very slow

  • There are probably about 30 cups left

    • Less than

    • @mintygirl, When did you start lining up?

      • 7.10. At which there was already a line up to zara entrance.

        • and how long did you wait til you were done?

        • @YadaYadaYada: hahaha got my cup at 8.55

        • @mintygirl: Wow that's just crazy!

        • -1

@YadaYadaYada: i kmow right! Cant believe i waited 2 hrs nearly. But i kinda wanna go back tomorrow to get one of the colour i like. Ozbargain meetup at 6.30am!!! Lol

    No more for today folks

    • Did you just have to show the tweet/fb/insta post on your phone?

      • None required

        • Oh really? So they just give you a cup, no questions asked?

        • @bikuta: Why do you worry so much about showing your pledge on your phone's social media?

        • +4

@tempura: I don't understand why you'd make that assumption. I just wanted to know what they do. For the record I have no problem showing them my phone. My intention was purely so that I could get there and be ready with whatever they need and walk away.

  • No more frank green cups but they are still honoring free coffee till 10:30

  • What do they do before giving you a cup? Surely it shouldn't take that long to hand out cups.
I didn't go today but I might see how it goes tomorrow.

    • -1

      Can you read?

      • +1

I know you're supposed to post on social media, but what do they actually do when you get to the front, do they check your phone and hand you a cup or do they need to collect your details, etc.

        • Oh, fair enough. You probably want to reply to one of tempura or mintygirl comments so they can answer then.

        • As mentioned above. Not pledge was checked. You line up, get to front, pick your cup colour, pick your coffee, they make your coffee, you wait for your coffee, you pick up your coffee and your lid and go. You make the pledge afterwards if you wish.

        • @mintygirl: if you rush in for work, you can always just grab the cup and not the coffee.

          Or vice versa ;]

        • @tempura: hahah thanks tempura! Did that yesterday, as much as i loved the coffee it was already 8.55!

    • It sure does! Took nearly 2 hrs. It takes time to make coffee. Especially when there's so many…

  • Wow… it's just before 6:30 and i'm already lining up in front of Zara with at least 24 people in front of me.

  • about 40 to 50 people in the queue now. just before 6.30am.

  • Day 2! Yup line growing fast.

    • In true ozbargainers style

  • Anyone know when the cups run out or how many they gave away?

    • 200

      • Per day

    • +1

There are many people that just push in!!!

      • Haha, people are shit.

  • 200 cups. Theres probably 200 in line already

    • There are more than 200 people in the queue now. Based on what the security guard is saying to the people at the end of the queue.
