To general, shouldn't have been posted till actual deals known.

    • Yes, it's quite general, but free shipping in and of itself has been posted as a deal many times before, though in this case, it's probably better if it went in the forum since the deal hasn't started yet.

    • -2

Free Shipping isn't a good deal?

      • +3

No, not at EB prices. And since we don't know what the "Insane" prices are yet, it has no place here.

  • -1

It's alerting people of an incoming sale. This WILL be of intereest and benefit to many ozbargainers. Quit with the Nazi rules already.

    • -4

EB has a "sale" every second week, most of the time with nothing special. And if you don't like the rules, go away.

  • +3

Indeed agree here. There is no deal here, until we can actually see what the so called insane deals are. They may end up bening not so good in the end.

    • -1

What if it turns out to be an awesome deal will yout take your negative back?

    • who cares if it's not a deal yet. it's not like its ruining your life because its here. at least its telling us that there is something upcoming so we can hold off on our purchases if it really is a good deal.

    • Not a deal it's a discussion that should be on the forums.

  • Its his first post guys, try to be a little less cutthroat about it.

Technically this shouldnt be posted until the deal is active (and is a real deal), because even if it was 10% off storewide it probably still wouldnt class as a bargain given EB's heavy price inflation. That being said, the free shipping probably would warrant a post, though wouldnt get many +'s for the same reason.

      • +1

So…you're voting down the deal not because the deal is no good, but because the OP should never have posted it?

If so, please use the Report button so the Mods can remove the deal as opposed to voting it down. That should be pretty obvious for someone who is familiar with the rules.

        • -2

I voted down because it's not a deal, as I clearly explained with EB's prices negating the "free" shipping. His inability to read the rules annoys me, but not the reason for the neg.

Next time try reading all my comments before posting smart arse comments.

        • Yes, I was being sarcastic for a reason. The rules you so vehemently defend do not agree with your actions/comments, at least in the order you carried them out. In fact, you're the one with the smart arse comments. Just read your response to Ambiguous.

I read all your comments before posting, but the point is that you had already negged the deal with your first comment, in which you gave no basis for negging the deal. It was only afterwards that you criticised EB's pricing.

Even if, indeed, your initial neg was because of EB's pricing, unless you work for EB, you still cannot guarantee that the prices will not be any good. If they do turn out to be no good, then by all means vote it down.

        • Who cares what I order I posted my comments in, the facts are:

          1) My neg is valid as judging by the only information included in the "deal" free shipping does not make this a bargain.
          2) This does not belong on this site.

Now you can whinge/defend/cry all you want about how negging is mean, bla bla. But after justifying my neg vote I am the one within the rules of this site, the submitter is not.

I've submitted deals before that have gotten voted down, did I cry? No. I accepted the criticism and moved on with my actual life.

      • +3

I never said your neg was unjustified, all I said was try to be a little kinder with it. At the end of the day you dont want to discourage people from sharing bargains, because that hurts the community in the long term.

  • +2

I'm not gonna post negative because it seems a bit harsh, but it does feel like a premature deal

    • +1

I'm sick of this "omg you negged" vibe on here. The rules are the rules and the neg button is there to be used.

      • The rules are the rules, and the neg button isn't there to be used the way you used it.

        • See my answer above, since for some reason you fealt the need to double post.

  • -1

Chewman this is not a deal so u will be punished, please pick 1 of the below 1) pubic beheading 2) stone till death
    c beheading

    • +4

      "Pubic beheading"? Ewwww.

  • -3

EB's 'Sales' are always very poor. The current Xmas sale is a total rip off they had Halo Reach for $88 lol and I paid $72 on launch day..

The last mad monday was basically Kmart's prices..

Nothing to get excited about. EB are running one of those stupid facebook campaigns where if you advertise this promotion you go into a prizedraw. I hate these sorts of things just as much as I hate Facebook itself.

    • +2

thats weird, i bought a few games from eb last mad monday for myself and made a handsome profit on a few i resold on ebay $$$, you must be a mum/dad gamer

plus this reads awfully like an opinion…

  • Eb games are not the company I would recommend dealing with. I traded in two games of gt5 went to trade another 1 in got banned for life , my brother who wanted to trade back his gt5 wasn't allowed because he lives with me ?? This company is a joke and I will be dealing with them. They are quiet sneaky and have policies that allow them to serve whoever they like at the managers decision. If your nose is top big I wont serve you . Surely that's a form of discrimination . Perhaps chewwy can explain to the world why because this issue is far from over

    • +1

I'm sorry but the grammatical errors just confused me :S

    • Er why were you banned for life? And btw how much did you get for GT5?

    • I think you find that ebgames actually provide a good service. Like the game guarantee if you have young children or a problem with destroying your disks you can get a brand new one. They also have a 7 day policy where you can take back any product except online PC games and online time cards for a full refund no questions asked. Though I'm sure if you start to abuse the system the will catch on. And I believe there is a system running right now if you get a game play it and don't like it return it for it's value up to 30 days after the purchase. This might not be the best thing for all people but it would be very good and recommended for a lot. I'm sure many people have lost games to damage from small children, game guarantee is the answer. Also they price match. They have large collections of used games which may contain little treasures that are extremely hard to pick up elsewhere.

  • What is there explanation for banning you? What does a ban entail? I've traded 2 x GT 5, and could trade another. I don't get this trade nonsense - if they're going to offer you more than you paid for it, that's their choice - they can't get all huffy about it afterwards.

    • +1

Maybe both the GT5s he traded in had pizzas inside instead of the game…

  • +2

the advertisement is telling you there will be bargains and free shipping as well, so that is a pretty good incentive, thanks for the poster and just ignore the neg, many people will appreciate your effort.

    • …you do know how marketing works right?

      • -1

since you know the rules on this site and lost your neg, why should anyone pay attention to what you have to say?

        • -2

Dear mods. You are idiots. I explained my neg vote. If your going remove people's lagitamate votes atleast have the guts to try and justify it. Useless..

      • +6

PainToad, thanks for the compliment but we did not remove your vote. We aren't removing negative votes anymore. Negative votes are removed automatically by the community by voting neg next to the comment.

hmmmm….as people are keen to cite rules…..let's not forget rule number 6

          BE respectful to others.

          also, for interest…..
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:getting_started

Discover upcoming deals. The New Deals page has the most recent submissions. You can vote them to the main page!

It must be difficult to neg a deal without actually seeing it……unless some are blessed with the ability to see into the future……

Report or no-vote would be the way to go here methinks….

  • i got banned for trading games into stores in hurstville and bondi junction. Not only can i not trade the games in a cant purchase any games , or can i use the store credit that they gave me for my traded in games. I got trade in value for 115.20 for each gt5 using the 20 percent extra with the myfun voucher. Which i used that money to put towards pre-orders for other games . Now they refuse to honor my pre-orders and cant serve me or my brother mother father wife aunty. They said i was buying the game cheaper from dick smith and re-selling to them at a profit. Your not allow to sell and buy games and make a profit ? I asked what country they live in thats how eb games runs its business , by ripping off the unknown public , hoping some poor lady whos son wants a game and pay 119.95 for it doesnt like it and return it for 92 a week later. Hey eb games can do it

  • mate send a complaint because it doesn't concern them if your making a profit, its not really profit anyway because its STORE CREDIT FFS! They still make money off the preowned games so they can get stuffed. send a complaint via their website and let us know how it goes.

  • +4

I had a fight with one of the guys at our local EB games a couple of weeks ago with a similar situation. I traded call of duty black ops and he asked if I bought the game from there and I said no from jb hi-fi this was in the first week of release and they were offering $96 trade-in and he said said that he couldn't trade the game because I had only paid $79 and he couldn't trade it for $96. I said to him that if EB wasn't such a #%*ing ripoff then I might've bought it from there… After a few choice words I left and went to the next nearest store and they traded it + the 20% voucher = $115.20 I did have the last laugh because I actually only paid $63.20 for call of duty from jb when they had the 20% off night and bought 3 copies all which were traded at EB for $115.20 and then just yesterday bought the new 25th anniversary red wii console with a couple of games with my 3x$115.20 vouchers. Bonus for me:) and EB get can get stuffed…

  • +2

mate the dude was in the wrong, i would have stood their and made a scene until the game got traded. there are too many clueless managers around that dont know how to run their stores and need to be put in thier place.

A manager refused to use the 20% coupon on blackops saying 'we wont give you more then you paid' even though i paid $79 in that same goddamn store at midnight launch. they gave me $96 and i used $75 of that for ACB and traded that in last week for $93 lol.

They are real smartarses and when you know your stuff they crawl back into their hole. they look tough at first but if you know the rules they will shutup as they realise they are in the wrong and you are smarter than them.

It should not concern them if you are getting more than you paid, they are STILL going to make a profit on the game you are trading in and it is a company promotion they must abide by. They should be more than happy to accept the trade as its one of the most important part of EB Games and helps keep them in business.

  • I made my point with the smartarse but wasn't getting anywhere and I'm a bit more mello now compared to a few years ago but I won't forget in a hurry. Every dog has it's day…

  • i already lodged the complaint. The area manager called me and spoke to me rude and said sorry we are no longer dealing with you and hang up. I rang fair trading , they said to logde a online complaint but under the trade practise act they have the right to refuse to serve you. So i called the accc and they said they arent doing anything wrong if they dont want to serve me they dont have too. However if i feel im being discriminated against i can call the human equal rights and logde a complaint. Im lodging a complaint under discrimination of marriage status they cant ban my wife for being married to me.

  • This was the stores in miranda , eastgardens , hurstville and bondi which i travelled to to try and trade in my games , they wont serve me wont honor my pre-order which i put 115.20 towards and wont let me buy anything.

  • Mate they have to at least honour the pre order if you have paid a deposit, if not then they have to give you your money back if not then that is theft.

  • As boonanza said it is against the law to not allow you to utilise the store credit or receive a refund for the cost of the store credit.

  • +1

Also to add on, it isn't your fault that you used your brain to receive store credit. Btw you went through some degree of effort to receive the store credit, so you forgave something (time/effort etc.) which means you should be eligible for a refund or to utilise the store credit. On another note kudos to you for sticking to your guns, don't give in (go to ACA or TT and state discrimination, they will love it).

  • i sort something out

  • +2

lol similar thing happened to me exepct i was expoliting there tradee values in which im allowed to do. bascially back a few weeks ago big w had a staff 10% off day so i was getting ACB for $66 then trading it at eb for $90 + using my edge card and getting like over 100 per copy so what i did was go to every store in the south of SA about 10 stores and traded in a copy on both xbox and ps3 to each store and got cash for the copies. may seem pretty stingy but hey i made money from it and im not breaking any law right?

basically when i got to like the 8th store some girl told me that if i had been to a previous store and traded? in which i replied yes. she said that its against the law to trade in more than one copy of a game and that she and head office would be calling the police!! lol

i can confirm that they did because a mate of mine who worked at another store got a phone call from head office not to trade to me and that thry had reported me to the cops as they thought i was trading in stolen goods lmao.

good thing for me the coppers never called me which i didnt think they would but i had my reciepts from big w to prove i had purcheased the games.

but jokes on eb i made like $20 profit per game walked out $300 on top for a few hrs work

  • Yes i agree so not breaking any laws and going by their policies they cant stop it. Its ok for them to rip people off its good to hear someone getting something back. Im worried im stuck with these games and store credit which its useless now. How can they give me something for my game and then dis honour it ?

  • they cant. id reort them to the ACC and advise either in writing you require a refund or the credit to be used at another store.

  • Not even one good deal. Any that are even slightly tempting have a "Limited Quantity" disclaimer.

Epic Mickey is $14 more than I have seen previously elsewhere, other items are similar.

I am 100% positive other "deals" to be released are even worse as they haven't been mentioned in advance.

  • I am a regular EB Games customer and have to say the customer experience varies from store to store.

I have young kids and buy mainly kid related games. I also return at least half the games I buy because many kids titles are utter rubbish.

Most stores are fine, but the store I frequent most always seems to begrudge it if I return a game, particularly one the manager thinks is good….

I'm glad EB is in business, otherwise I'd have a big collection of crap games.

This Mad Monday has some OK deals -

    Assasin’s Creed: Brotherhood - $68 (Normally $108 - Save 37%)
    Red Dead Redemption - $46 (Normally $79 - Save 41.7%)
    Fifa 11 - $59 (Normally $108 - Save 45.4%)

For full Australian retail versions these prices are not bad.

Also iTunes 2x $50 - $75 (Save 25%) seems pretty good. If the iTunes cards were a standalone deal not from EB I am betting they'd get a lot of positive votes…

Also as another poster pointed out, they do price match - I got Donkey Kong Country for $64 price matching to JB on Friday when it was marked $119.95.

I'll be returning it today as it is IMHO a poor mans version of New Super Mario Bros….

ANother thing I like about EB is that at Christmas they extend their money back period so you have until 15 Jan to return games bought since late November. This helps if you want to give a game as a present.

  • +1

wondering why no body is talking about:

    Starcraft 2 - $68 (Normally $98 - Save 30.6%)

seems like an excellent deal.. been meaning to pick up a copy but its been around the 80-90 makr for a while

am i just clueless to these better deals or people being hush :D

    • +1

it will be $58 at GAME on tuesday. also seen it online for $45 on ebay.

      • thnx for the heads up nubzy!

  • Nice!

  • these deals, are they instore too or just online?

  • -1

So according to EB's stupid logic, you wouldn't be allowed to trade in a game you got as a gift since you didn't pay for it. Trading it in would mean that you'd be making money. I never shop at EB because not only are the prices inflated but pretty much every game is second hand since

    1) All games are opened, contents are handled and kept under counter
    2) Customers just buy, play and then return them.

So you pay exorbitant prices for used games. Oh the staff loves that! Meanwhile they get all OMG when you try and trade in a game for a profit (i.e. when the customer is not getting ripped off)

  • Agreed 100% I'm calling a few agencies today to find out what i can do to get back my store credit and compensated for my lost of time and travel

    • Shane, i think your situation is awful. If EB offer a policy to trade games then so be it. I got dirty looks from the guy on the counter when I handed him 2 unwrapped copies of GT 5, straight from the JB bag - but if you're allowed to do that then so be it. I'm guessing that they've put bad comments on my account so i expect to get hassle the next time I do a trade, still shouldn't be for a while as JB haven't updated their 3 for 1 offer in a few months. I just don't get where the hostility comes from. If they don't want people to profit, intentionally or otherwise, for trades then don't offer trade values (significantly) higher than the sales prices of (most of) your competitors. Of course people will "take advantage" of the offer - surely that is the point of the offer. To be made to feel like a criminal for utilising a legitimate offer is just awful. That's how I felt when I did the trade - bloke number 1 had shocking customer service - you'll have to spend all the credits today we don't let you save the credits - yeah no worries that's what I was hoping to do. The manager wasn't a bundle of laughs either. Gees, if they don't want people to use these offers don't blinking offer 'em.

Still, your situation is disgusting, especially as they're with holding your funds - that is outrageous. Firstly I would call the head office. I would request a written explanation for their with holding of funds. Also, I would contact your local newspaper, A Current Affair and Today Tonight. Your local newspaper may be your best bet. You get something written up with your sad face on it - EB denies christmas present - bamm, PR catastophy.

I really think that this bullying tactic of EB has to end - can some of the commenters here, and perhaps some EB employees galvanise to get to the bottom of this issue. Someone needs to get this on A Current Affair. I hate this attitude of allowing this issue to continue simply because it doesn't directly effect us.

  • slim pickings this year, but I guess I already have gt5/black ops, so I cant complain too much

This seems to have gone by unnoticed… Playstation Move Starter Kit for $47:

    • That was only added about ten minutes before you posted. I picked one up.

      • snapped one up too

  • I try my newspaper first see what they say

  • -2

I went to Eb games at eastgardens on Sunday and they were serving me the. They asked for my name and then refused to serve me I got my wife to have a try as I wanted to trade in some games they have extra 50% on at the moment they refused her as well. Head office I have spoken to a few times they agree they dot want to serve me or anyone associated with me. And They said they welcome a call from fair trading and will co. Operate with them . Like I said I called fair tradin and they have the right to refuse anyone for any reason. But I'm sure if they are refusing to honor my credits and pre orders they must be breaking some law . The amount of time and effort I have spent on this plus I think I'm developin a tumor I need large compensation and medical bills paid

    • I get the feeling your leaving things out, I'm
almost inclined to call bullshit…(just saying)

  • do you work for eb agmes ? just saying as your have their attitude.

    • you want to talk about attitudes, the fact your comment is so defensive, just makes your comments seem more dodgier than they already are.

    • Shane23 , can you tell us how many games you traded in at a "profit" both you and your family members ?

Maybe you kind of went too far in exploiting their high trade value offer.

Not that its wrong, I have done it a few time in the past month myself but never at the same store cause i didnt want to look like I was taking advantage…even though I totally was !! (Sorry EB but i am sure you can find some moms to pay you triple anyway)

So yeah can you let us know how many trades it took for EB to take such an aggressive action ?

      Good luck!

  • I traded in two gt5 in one store and then went to another to trade in two they said only one so I wet to another store and traded . So 4 in total my mother wife nobody I'm associated with traded any games . I rang around all commission today fair trading , human equal right and Accc they have every right not to serve me, and do not have to honor my store credit. They simply can give my games I traded back and if I don't want them too bad. I rang local newspaper they told me they willing to look into it. But I should write a formal letter of complaint first
