My friend used it to shave some ham once. The waking pig was not impressed.

Worth mentioning too that for $5 more the smaller brother 210mm / 1800w model includes a stand, making it a good starter

I'd definitely take this version over the 210mm with the stand; there are a lot more options for replacement 254/255mm blades than 210mm ones.

    • If you are cutting long lengths of timber it's best to get a proper stand that can hold the timber and slide along

I have this model and can definitely recommend it for DIY/hobby use. Dominus' suggestion for a stand is a good idea.

Cuts through solid aluminium bar stock nicely with the stock blade, even though it's not strictly meant to.

I unintentionally tried to cut steel with it once and thought it died, but the machine lives on!

  • Got one of these, not exactly the bees knees, but at this price it is indeed a bargain.
Personally i reckon a stand would be a great thing to have, I've used mine mostly on a concrete floor, and it's not good for the 'ol hammer and tack.

They sell an ozito stand for $60. I have one and it's great

  • can the people who own this comment on whether the trigger varies the blade speed, or it is a full speed or nothing type deal?

    • +1

I don't know of any mitre saw that has a variable speed trigger. Sounds pretty dangerous to have a mitre saw with that feature. It would be full speed or nothing. Perhaps you mean a blade brake?

How well it cuts would be largely determined by the quality of the blade installed.

      • maybe you are right, its just that i have a cheap hand-me-down drop saw that turns on almost with a bang - its fairly scary to use.
it just goes and the whole thing shudders in your hand..hoping to avoid that with a future purchase.

The Aldi is advertised with two speed control. Closest I can think of. Though that's for blade/material selection not because you want a soft start.

The Ozito 18V circular saw is soft start though incase that interests you.

        • +1

thanks - its probably a soft start that makes the nicer saws I have used a bit less intimidating. Ill keep an eye out for that feature (rather than variable speed)

        • @tristanium:

Yep you mean soft start, which is a nice feature, as is a blade brake. 😊

    • these do not need "soft start" or "variable speed", just dangerous.

  • What happened to their $59 210mm ozito mitre saw?
Discontinued because of too many returns?

    • +1

I've got one of these and had it for a few years (not a lot of use) and I've not had an issue with it. Lacks the slide so you can only cut small items, but it certainly hasn't missed a beat for me.

  • Bought this yesterday at this price - still in box

    • How long is the warranty on this saw? Can't find it online, but the box should say.

      • +1

        3 years

      • +1

Yup box says 3 year replacement warranty

I bought this couple of months ago to build my trex composite deck, did the job.

Just bought the Ozito Table Saw on sale for roughly the same price as this. Set it up but haven't used it yet.

It's nice to be able to buy cheap tools that you only need for 1 job that actually work and do the job. Don't know how they'll go long term, but that's not the reason you buy $100 power tools I guess.

  • Welp, looks like I am buying a Table Saw and a Mitre Saw now

Just waiting to see if they drop the price on the Hedge Trimmer as well to match Aldi.

  • Damn missed out, its back to $189.00

  • If in need, I've got an old one I can part with cheaply. It's the big brother of these, longer sliders so you can cut wider stuff. A bit dirty but works really well, soft start and not as loud as the smaller Ozitos. It is in Northern Sydney.
