General question - how would the picture visually compare to a 2008 era Full HD TV? Obviously the physical TV is much less and bezel etc, but picture quality?

Dont care for Smart TV Connectivity, but I wonder if i'd notice a crisper image on something like this compared to my (old) relic.

    • Depends on the source and a lot of factors i guess. This is 4K Ultra HD compared to Full HD.

    • Old LCD TVs used fluorescent lamps for backlight, new LCD TVs use blue LEDs painted yellow - this supposedly creates better whites but mainly, TVs can be made thinner..

In the unlikely event that you can make out the pixels from your current sitting position, then maybe 4K resolution is beneficial.

Practically, HDR is the main differentiator, but you have to use 4K Blu-rays and TV needs to support HDR10 (and, optionally Dolby Vision)..

LCDs like this set is old news. Two technologies going forward - true colour emissive OLEDs (LG currently use filters for colour) or Quantum-dot (Samsung QLED currently use QD only for backlight). Maybe, next year.

    • Not sure about this brand but I returned Philips Smart TV after 5 days. Awful picture, slow remote respond, apps crashing and so on…My old 2008 Philips TV worked fantastic . Good built amazing sound . These new so called Smart TV are so cheaply design . Speakers weak and you will spend days trying to set up best pic for yourself . I gave up on 4K thing and bought simple FHD Hisense TV. It's got Netflix and YouTube which I hardly use to be honest .

Advice go to shop and spend some time looking at the TV you want buy from all angles. Ask for remote and try opening basic settings etc.. and take your time . Don't fall for it's got this and that .

  • I don’t think this one has Stan if that matters to you.

    • Had to read your post twice before i realised you weren't saying this one doesn't come with Satan
