  • Is there a gearbest rep for ozbargain?

  • Note: this has only single click action. In Home Assistant, shows up as three binary sensors - left switch, right switch and "both"

Has anyone managed to get the "both" switch working on HA? I can detect it, and it registers on the Mi Home app, but I can never get it to trigger.

    • Yes, I have "both" working without issue.

  • How do you retrofit these to the existing Aussie wall boxes?

    • +1

These are wireless, not hardwired. So you just stick them on the wall with a command strip or something.

    • +1

This is the wireless verison so doesn't need to be retrofitted.

The product I linked to below is for retrofitting and this thread suggests they don't fit perfectly…
      https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/5i35is/look…

      • yep - they dont quite fit, and the screw holes dont line up with anything….

One day i will get around to fitting them…

Asked the rep for some coupon on these switches and got one for the single key too:

    • I've added those into description

    • Oops I forgot to add the single key ones. Thanks!!

      • Hey OP. Thanks a lot for this. Could we have a deal on the smart wifi switch for the wired light bulbs?
This is just a switch that could be mounted on the wall or on your desk. I need the switches that could control the normal lights.
Unfortunately the Xiaomi smart light bulbs are not that bright at about 450-600 lumens. I decided to have brighter lights but need the smart wired switches.
        Thanks

      • Trying to buy the single key one, but getting a "The code you entered is not valid for this product" message. Am I just too late or is it the wrong code? This is for the Milk White single key. The link for the White single key goes straight to a double key product, can't find a single key on gear best in white.

How about a deal now for the gateway or the gateway kits? its now a necessary purchase :)

        • The second link in the post is the single key. Is that the one you tried?

        • @randombrick: Can you please reopen this with this code?
          coupon:AU17T3WX
Rep was very generous and offered some more :)

        • @pal:

Sorry just saw this. Could you use the report option on the post to let the moderators look at this?

My understanding of these "wireless" versions was that they were basically the same as the Xiaomi buttons just they look different. Not that interesting to me.

There's also a wired version which appears to allow the replacement of a traditional light switch with a "smart" light switch where you can smart control a normal light circuit (useful for making other light fittings such as downloights/floodlights/LEDs where you can't install a Yeelight bulb smart). A deal on this product would be awesome!

    • +1

and probably requires the neutral wire (unsupported for majority of people) & cannot legally be installed here.

      • Description says it uses single wire so no worries there. I'm sure it's not tested to Australian standards though so I'm not sure if your licensed electrician would agree to install it for you.

        Product is here
        https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_610096.html

        • Why these are that expensive? No discount would make it an acceptable deal!

        • Yeh, so feel free to install it, just the obvious heads-up that if something was to go wrong with it, insurance would unlikely be on your side

        • -1

@v00d00 AU: Which insurance company PDS mention that? If that's the case, yeelight which a lot of ozbargainers have purchased is not compliance as well. Even though it's not hook up to main power, if the yeelight bulb catches fire and burn the house down, then it's the same deal. I doubt anyone got 100% compliance devices in their home.

        • @milsirhc81:
Careful with this statement! Plenty of laws against HARD WIRED non compliant electrical items, whomever installs this would be personally liable. Don't get it confused with imported consumer devices which you are correct would not invalidate your insurance policy.

        • @FickleRick: Thanks. I just want to educate myself with all these and not intend to be offensive. Do you know of any link that state it's against hard wired only? I was reading even LED need RCM approval so was thinking if the yeelights burst into flames and burn down the house.. isn't that the same thing? - Thanks.

  • What is the difference between the one below ?
    https://www.gearbest.com/access-control/pp_626695.html

Any functionality difference or it is just the look ? I prefer the round one . It looks nicer and cheaper

    • +2

I have both. Both have 3 programmable modes, so essentially identical. This switch (the one offered here) has a smoother more refined mechanism, it's not a cheap feeling switch like the round one.

      • ok. Thanks for explaination.Appreciate that.

  • SO, if my WiFi goes down, how do I turn on the light to see my router to reboot it?

    • +2

If your wifi routinely goes down I think your wifi router might need replacing. Wifi networks should generally have near 100 percent uptime.

      • Yeah but what if my power goes off? How can I turn on the light without wifi then??!! lol

        • +4

If your power goes off.. Your lights won't have power so you can't turn them on anyway

    • These switches don't use Wifi, if you have a Zigbee socket you'll be fine

      • -1

        but the yeelights are wifi.

Truth be told, if the wifi goes down there are much bigger things to worry about then being able to turn on your lights.

        • yea like the kids chasing me with an axe…

  • can these program any other functions with the Xiaomi gateway such as the alarm?

wondering because i already have the small Xiaomi button that i use to arm/disarm the gateway, along with two Yeelights and a Google Home mini.

i currently yell at the Google Home mini when i get home, to turn on the lights in the rooms, so wondering if getting this is just overkill……….

    • +1

      quick question on your setup:

Google home doesn't recignise the yeelights unless they are on the singapore servers however the gateway seems to only work on the china servers. how do you get it to work?

      • -1

that's correct they are separate, Yeelight on singapore server thru the separate Yeelight app, and rest thru china on xiaomi server in mi home app

        • Cool, but how do they communicate with each other?

        • -2

          @jayel: just explained it mate

        • +1

@jayel: My understanding here is that you need something like a RPI3 + Home assistant which can connect your Xiaomi Smart Home Gateway (Mainland Chinese Server), the Yeelights (Singapore server), and Google home.

Happy to hear if anyone has any simpler methods, as I can't get them to talk otherwise.

        • @jayel: just explained it mate

Not really, your descriptions implied you could run both Google Home and a Zigbee switch. You can't, so essentially you have two isolated systems.

        • @jayel: They don't need to communicate with each other, he has his Yeelights in Singapore & the other in China. In the Mi Home app you can chose to switch regions anytime using the same account.

        • @adam:

Ok, I was assuming you were using your sensors to trigger your yeelights as you were considering buying this switch for the lights. I have found they cannot communicate/ see each other when on different servers. So cannot setup any automation in the middle home app.

At the moment I've got Yee lights on Singapore so I can control them with Google home. But now the gateway is not able to communicate with anything else. I'll look into solving it with home assistant or ifttt unless you have it going without adding more complexity

        • @adam: thank you that's what I was saying

        • @ash2000: didn't imply that at all if you read it back again props

  • I am struggling to understand how this wireless switch can control my existing lighting circuit? I know it a wireless version but what additional device do I need in my traditional lighting circuit that this Aqara wireless switch would talk to?

    • +1

a xiaomi gateway. As part of a smart home setup.

    • +1

They're using the wrong product images. The hardwired ones would do it.

      https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_610096.html

      • I'm wondering what the insurance implications are for non C-tick products that are hardwired. There are no implications for using non c-tick plug side appliances/cables/powerboards etc, but I'm wondering if that holds true to hardwiring?

        • +1

Illegal to do unlicensed DIY electrical work yourself so I imagine it to hold true for insurance. I'm sure there are electricians out there that would do it, but I imagine don't want it falling back on them.

    • Well you don't use these to control your existing switched lights, you use it to control lights integrated through another ecosystem, e.g. the Xiaomi gateway and/or Home Assistant.

  • Can these work with a smartthings hub ?

  • Now I need some RGB Yeelight bulbs.
