The cost of the pastage is the back down for me.

  • Do these really work?

    • +5

      I am very skeptical…
For one, a mozzie has more than 5 legs, not arms. And the look like they will fall off the mozzie straight away… and how long will it take to put them on that insect?

      • Also what are nozzles trying to repell with these wrist bands?

        Reported for bad Dad joke.

My kid cracked half a smile. It passes.

        • Reported to dad for joking bad.

      They are pure snake oil.

My wife and daughter are prime targets for mozzies. Don’t know why, but they are always getting bitten when I am not. Over the years we have tried a lot of different repellent devices, everything from mozzie coils to ultrasonic devices to these rings. These were the worst of everything we tried. A tin of aerogard is a lot more affective than what these things are. They are no different to the sports performance enhancement rubber bracelets a few years ago that got shut down and had to offer a public apology over their snake oil bullshit…

      • I'm the same. Back at home, people in the same room were spared, while me and my Dad were hammered.
This was all that helped, and it's easy on the senses.

These bands are useless! And don't even get me started on those mosquito repellent apps!

        • +1

App?? OMFG, just how gullible are some people??

        • +1

@pegaxs: ultra high frequency sounds KILL mosquitoes! Best $9.99 app purchase I ever made. The pro version scares away tigers - even at the zoo I failed to see tigers.

Garlic and apple cider vinegar again - if you have these with every meal you will look beautiful, cure your cancer, loose weight and live for ever.

          And now also repel mozzies.

        • @check: it’s just more snake oil… surprised it wasn’t the “lemon detox” one…

      • I'm the same, a prime target for mozzies when others around me aren't bothered. Maybe they can smell fear.

I've tried other bands in the past, they don't work for me, don't know if they help others.

The best repellent I've used is Bushmans, it comes in 20%, 40%, and 80% DEET concentration. I worry a little about DEET (it's a strong chemical that can melt plastic) so I save the strong stuff for when I travel to real tropical climates.

        • This guy repels.

My wife and daughter are prime targets for mozzies. Don’t know why, but they are always getting bitten when I am not.

Well, nothing personal, but if I were a mozzie I'd much rather bite them than you.

      • Whilst some people are more attractive to mozzies, most of the time others are getting bitten just as much as you, but they don't have the same level of allergic reaction to the mozzie saliva that you & your daughter do.

DEET (the higher the percentage the more effective - try Bushmans 80) works the best.

    • Nope. DEET works,

Patches and wrist bands, typically impregnated with botanical products, are available but do not offer effective
      protection from mosquitoes.

Slimy. I'd rather them say $5.98 and free postage…

  • +5

    The bands are free

No they aren't, the price is included in the shipping.

And you can get these for much less on Ali and eBay.

    You're lucky I don't tell PJC.

Yep, $5.98 shipping is a con …. a 60 cent product sent flat in a DL envelope for $1…….. $4.40 profit (insert cash register noise).

      • I got the noise, but I'm finding it difficult to insert. Perhaps I should mail it to you and you can insert yourself? $5.98 will cover the shipping costs…

        • Does it sound like Cha-Ching?

        • @ash2000:
The ching noise is fine, but the Cha is more of a grind against rust noise.

I'll clean it up night for another $5.98

These wristbands have shown to be effective in only releasing gullible people of their cash. There is no science to back up their claims and plenty of science to back up that they are bullshit.

    Repellent-impregnated wristbands offered no protection.

Quote from the New England Med. Journal Study

The US Federal Trade Commission has actually fined one repellent wristband producer, Viatek, for misleading marketing of its wristbands as protective against mosquitoes.

    Canstarblue Article on Mosquito Bands

The wristbands failed to stop landing by the mosquitoes

Study conducted by the NSW Entomological Society

Note to mods: negging because I have serious doubts about this product being able to do what it says. These bands are absolutely ineffective at repelling mosquitoes and a topical repellent would have a greater effect. Also, I have serious questions about the items being “free” and the shipping being so high at $6 to send 5 rubber bands in the post.

  • Don’t waste your money on these.

  • "No pickup", that kills the deal.

The Checkout had a segment on mozzies:)

FWIW They had a mozzie expert on who said the bands are useless.

  • The only way this would be effective is if it covered your whole body.

People complaining these don't work simply don't understand how they work. You purchase as many as you need to cover your exposed skin, and wear them all at once.

    • +1

instruction not clear, got my d**k stuck on those ring.

  • Fun facts.

    1. Only female mosquitos bite in order to produce eggs.
    2. The itch you get after a mosquito bite is due to the mosquito saliva once you are bitten.
    3. The bigger the itchy bump on your skin means the greater amount of mosquito saliva in that area.
    4. You feel the itching sensation due to your immune system trying to combat the foreign substance, mosquito saliva, that has entered into your body.
    5. Male mosquitos don't bite. They feed on flower nectar.
