  • Trying 2 find a good cheap one for a present

  • Considering Deals Direct is an Australian company, the price is ok. However if you're not too fussed about purchasing from overseas and expect around 3-4 weeks (probably more due to Xmas) wait time for shipping, they are normally >$20 cheaper, e.g. this and this from dealextreme.

  • thankx pauly do you think the specs on the 1s from dx are better then the deals direct 1??? There are sooooo many to choose from!!!

    • +1

If you want a handheld video cam that can actually produce a good picture, might want to try the Flip Mino series. Usually retails for $120 or so.

They have fairly good performance in low light conditions.

An even cheaper alternative to that is the Kodak ZX1:

Though I doubt Aldi would have it anymore.

    • I don't personally own one, but have played around with one owned by a mate who bought it off some offshore site (could be DX). The build of it is not as sturdy as branded ones you can find in the market and it feels a bit plastic-ish. As for the recording quality, I still think they are inferior to the branded ones with lower advertised specs.

But of course with quality comes the price. If your budget is around the $100 mark, then like scrimshaw said, go for the mini pocket HD versions. They're probably not as feature rich but they're likely to last longer and are more energy efficient.

If you do decide to get one from DX, I personally wouldn't make a decision just by looking at the specs. Quite often they are not so accurate. I would suggest looking at the user reviews on DX instead.

  • go for the mini pocket HD versions.

I have a kodak zx1, and it's great. No zoom to speak of, but just move closer :)
Have seen it as low as $49 every now and again.
