Most expensive fashion purchase

Hi OzBs

We all love a good bargain on anything and everything but there are some things particularly in the fashion world that we don’t necessarily need but truly want. I recently purchased my first luxury handbag, and it did pain my to swipe the credit card and the ozbargainer in me died a little. Just wanted to find out what has been the most expensive fashion purchase, how much it cost and if you’ve had no regrets or buyers remorse. Also when does a fashion purchase (watch, bag, suit) price start to be ridiculous?

    • When did you buy it and how is it holding up? I find men’s wallets get beat up like crazy

      • November 2017. Still smells new. But that’s me. I need it to last as long as possible but handling it gently lol

        • Damn! My boyfriend needs a new wallet. Would be nice to get one that doesn’t start falling apart after 3 months…

        • @i like free: depends on his nature. For me, I would always keep it in the same spot at home. Or I’ll keep it in my pocket with nothing else in that same pocket. Handle it with clean hands and so forth. So right now it’s still in great nick

Plus for that money spent, it shouldn’t fall apart that soon. It’s a great quality wallet

      • Wallet bought from hawker outside Bearing Station, BKK, 300 baht (say 10 bucks in 2010) - still going strong, even after at least a dozen times through the wash.

A nice suit $600. Fits nice and have worn it on many occasions.

  • $2000 Citizen cc2004-08e Limited Edition Satellite watch (with gunmetal titanium bracelet):

  • Breitling Navitimer
    Tudor Pelagos
    Breitling Superocean Heritage

The 3 most expensive watches I've bought.

    • There’s a lot of interest with watches!! I didn’t realise men were so knowledgeable on them. I guess it’s like women and their handbags haha

      • +1

A watch is the only jewellery a man can wear :P

        • There are those leather bracelets that look great on guys!

  • Due to my awful flat feet, i need good quality trainers and work shoes so usual cost of work shoes are ~$200 and Cross-Trainers are ~$160. I don't usually splash out on clothes so my recent $100 Simmons jersey was my most expensive item of clothing i've purchased in the past 15 or so years.

  • I have paid over 9 thousand before…

  • Gucci wallet

    • I assume sent so much money on it there was no money to put in the wallet?

      • Only moths

      • I am rich so I still had some money to put in the wallet

  • Burberry bag for ex. Yes I'll admit that I was very salty after we broke up and it did cross my mind to get it back lol.

    • Very generous gift! I assume you haven’t bought a gf something of that value since?

      • Haha yeah I haven't, I've only started dating the current one not too long ago anyway. Will save the more expensive gifts for future milestones :)

  • My most expensive purchases are for formal occasion only which I wear maybe 3 times a year: suits ($600) and a pair of Goodyear Oxford ($300).

Watches in Australia are super overpriced for some reasons. The watches I ordered online from the US cost twice as much in Australia.

  • A handful of watches, they tend to all make the rotation often enough not to leave any buyers remorse.

Also have a decent smattering of leather bags and dress shoes/sneakers.

Only regret would be when things have been bought as a compromise - should have shelled out the cash and skipped the stop gap items in between.

    • Totally. If you are buying something expensive buy the one you want. Less likely to regret it

  • $250 Adidas Ultraboost. It is literally walking on marshmallows. I used to get very sore feet after 2 hrs of walking, now I can just be on my feet all day. It is worth every penny, now thinking of getting one for partner =D

  • $160 on a suit

  • Leather shirt $400 and a $450 new old stock Oakland Raiders US made Starter jacket to replace the worn out one I had as a teenager. Wear the replacement heaps.

  • a $3000 watch :)

  • $450 opal necklace for fiancée. Had it for two years and she lost it

    • That would be devastating!

  • $500 handbag purchased for $300 on sale. Have been using it for two years and have no regrets. I love the design, its practical, and I use it near on everyday. However, I still wouldn't have bought it at full price.

    • Unless an item never goes on sale I would justify buying it.

      • I know this brand eventually goes on sale. I do have to buy bras full price if I really like them thou. Otherwise my size will be gone by the time they go on sale.

        • Most of the time my size is gone too. I’ve seen really pretty bras that have been reduced so cheap and would never fit them unfortunately. Shoes is similar but not as bad

  • $220 on a pair of bright green kevlar camo motorbike pants :)

  • Most expensive fashion items I spend on are bags since if you choose a classic it never really goes out of style. I haven't gone to the lengths of chanel or chloe because I can't fathom spending that much yet or maybe I haven't seen thing I would die for. Highest 800 something, but the bags I normally get are around 300-500 and I only have a few that I rotate. Lasted for years now.

I think I ended up that direction when I bought a kate hill bag I absolutely loved for about 20 bucks and it kinda died after a year - the fake leather chipped, the handle broke and I was so disheartened because I loved the style and colour. If I could find it better made I would buy it in a heart beat.

I spend a couple hundred each on shoes because again I feel like they are worthy investments. I would do that for coats but not tops or pants.

    • Yes! Coats are another one that worth the investment.

  • Wear a $400 seiko sarb035 and a $400 Samsung gear s3.

Might be a $600 noob submariner in my near future but multiple issues with wearing replicas including a large number of well off kids of doctors in my field that I don't really want to be mistaken as. Wouldn't be buying omega, rolex, jlc or above until I'm comfortably a consultant

    • I work with doctors as a job and they make loads! Even the junior doctors! A consultant makes truck loads in my eyes. If you reach that level which I think a lot do you guys are pretty well off

  • I think it is relative and can’t put an exact price. To me a fashion item price seems ridiculous If the price doesnt justify the main purpose of the item and its features and if you’re tryung to be someone else that you’re not while wearing the fashion item. :-)

  • Want a laugh? Look up supreme jumpers..then have a look at the price of a supreme shovel.

    • Anything hypebeast is stupid.
You should see their London store, line out the door of a practically empty store.

    • They are absolutely ridiculous….. I remember they did a collab with LV and things were sold out straight away

  • My most expensive single fashion purchase so far;

3 piece custom made suit (for wedding) with 5 cotton shirts (fitted) plus bespoke leather shoes by a true craftsman all done in Bangkok in 2012, total price $545 AUD

    • +1

That’s a bargain!! I’m going to Vietnam in 2 months. Hoping to get a custom made leather jacket

      • Good tailors (and shit ones) in Hoi An - look through TripAdvisor to find a good one.

  • Approx $600 for a Japanese made bag for work while I was in Tokyo.
on the topic of expensive fashion.. WTF is this OFF WHITE thing?? I looked it up and they cost thousands.. minimum.. but only young rich asians wear them?

    • Never heard of off white…

        • It's a brand by Virgil Abloh, arguably the hottest man in streetwear right now. Only the rich can afford and there are a lot of rich asians.

A lot of rich kids of all races wear it in the US and it's quite popular in Japan. It's styling is unique, bold, and if someone wears it, you know they wear it. I guess that's part of the appeal. Quality of products is meh, but there are other brands out there which are similar (but not as popular)

  • What do you consider fashion? I've never quite reached the $200 mark on clothes myself, but I've forked out $50 :P
My Gear S3 is kinda a manly fashion statement, that was $400 or so because I got it on release day.
